Creature (1)

Enchantment (2)

Alright... Let's talk Mayael the Anima.

Mayael is one of those commanders that scream to the certain player in all of us, the player inside that sat on a playground before the great cardgame ban of '97, or huddled in your favorite LGS with your Nerd friends swinging your giant DRAGONS and ANGELS and LEVIATHANS at each other.

For 6 mana putting any creature with 5 or greater power onto the battlefield flat across the board, what could be better? Avacyn, Archangel of Hope? 6 mana. Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre? 6 mana, Worldspine Wurm? 6 Mana!

Mayael is the kind of commander that can speak to us, and I would love to take her as far as I can but I need your help.

My thoughts on building Mayael properly are:

A) Pick two colors to focus on, don't over extend your mana base.

B) The third color should be just for splashing, so therefore it should do something SPLASHY.

C) Mayael is not your win condition, she is a tool to help and over-reliance on her will lose you games, build as if she won't ever be cast or activated.

I do not believe she can stand up in a hyper competitive meta, Counter spell effects can set you back an entire turn because of the CMC of our deck, mass removal as well as targeted removal set you back quite a few steps because we do not have the card draw that other decks have to recover.

--I will be updating with thoughts as I go, hopefully you enjoy this deck and the discussion I hope to have about one of my favorite generals!--

Alright, got a chance to try my new toys and holy cow, Selvala, Heart of the Wilds is killer, nobody expected her, said thanks for the cards they where drawing while they tried to increase the power level of their board to gain as many cards as they could, but after I activated Mayael, landed Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre on their end step, then proceeded to ramp 10 mana (well 9 because of the one to activate her) putting out Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger they didn't think drawing a single card with a condition was fun anymore, imagine that?

Selvala will be staying for sure, I guarantee that even on her own she gives you a net total of one additional mana with only herself out.

The next card I got to try with my deck was Selvala's Stampede and the fact I could drop Balefire Dragon and Dragonlord Atarka with haste enablers out really felt good..I noticed something about this card and the voting process, people seemed more likely to give me the free card from hand and risk that as opposed to playing the lottery with revealing cards, it was kind of interesting to see how decisions where made.

I really feel like Selvala's Stampede is the kind of card that you will always vote free on especially in a deck like this where the creatures, no..PERMANENTS are big and splashy, 6 mana is a big investment in some games, but it is potentially 6 mana for 4 cards, or at the very least 2 minimum!

Nahiri, the Harbinger also performed well, exiling serious threats like Purphoros, God of the Forge, Aura Shards and even the tappedout 24/24 Omnath at one point.
