The Beast Queen's Counterattack

Commander / EDH RGW (Naya)

_SeriosSkies_

Mayael is a midrange Beats deck that gets value plays for cheaper than you should. Main win con is to stick a handful of threats or combo out as a glorified Kiki chord deck.

My philosophy when building this particular deck is that the meat of the deck (the 5+ power creatures,) need to on their own be powerful and alter the game state drastically. The sooner their effect can take place the better. That way when we have 2-3 of them they are just as threatening and in need of a board clear as when we have 10+ of them. and so that when they're board cleared they have accomplished their jobs. Everything else in the deck needs to support Mayael and getting the required mana, so that if Mayael is removed we arent stuck doing nothing.

Some examples:

Avenger of Zendikar Vs. Godsire

Avenger immediately grants us a pile of tokens. Even at the base value of 0/1 they act as amazing blockers and pose the threat of becoming larger than anything in our deck thanks to fetch land interaction. Godsire on the other hand Does nothing on impact. Is just a single body. and even over the course of a couple turns just supplies a very short amount of do nothing fatties.

Worldspine Wurm Vs. Thunderfoot Baloth

Worldspine wurm poses the threat of what is basically lethal even at just 15 damage. Upon being removed he never truly goes away being shuffled back in and leaving behind his exact body in three smaller components. Thunderfoot on the otherhand require my commander be in play and that I have a board established.

Decks land base is expensive, as an ideal list runs all fetches excluding Polluted Delta. So that we can A) shuffle when we need to and B) have lands come in untapped. We have a curve we play on after all.

The fetches i dont currently own are:

They do however have placeholders in my current build:

  • Madblind Mountain - Upsides, its tutorable by my fetches And is repeatable. Downsides, it comes in tapped and has a requirement before i can actually use it.

  • Naya Panorama - upsides, it comes in untapped and can fetch a land. Downsides, It costs mana to fetch and doesnt tap for color right off the bat.

  • Bant Panorama - upsides, it comes in untapped and can fetch a land. Downsides, It costs mana to fetch and doesnt tap for color right off the bat.

  • Rith's Grove - Upsides, It color fixes and comes in untapped. Downsides, it sets us back a turn.

Nothing made it to this version. Eldritch Evolution was just "Meh" over all. and i never found room for the two angels.
