I would consider Rings of Brighthearth. It lets you copy your activated abilities that copy spells and copy your fetchlands for more ramp. On the subject of ramp, if you find yourself needing more Solemn Simulacrum, Burnished Hart, Myriad Landscape, and Dreamscape Artist could all work (Dreamscape Artist also puts instants/sorceries in your graveyard to bring back later).

For copying things, Phyrexian Metamorph is a solid option. Less versatile is Sculpting Steel and Mizzium Transreliquat, which allow you to copy your opponents' mana rocks and equipment.

I've never played Izzet before, so the only other thing I can suggest is better mana rocks. You definitely need a Sol Ring in there, and Worn Powerstone and Thran Dynamo are two other solid options.

Thanks for the suggestions. Dreamscape Artist is a card I didn't know about before, but the "sacrifice a land" part I'm iffy about, as I'd primarily be using it as mana fixing/ramp. Sol Ring is a good choice, and I don't know how I missed it. I know I have a spare Thran Dynamo somewhere, so that'll end up going in eventually as well.

Mizzium Transreliquat was my favorite card for a long time, and it makes me sad I forgot about it. Phyrexian Metamorph is a good card too, and I'll look into getting one.

You sacrifice one but you get two out of it, so you can still mana fix/ramp. The only problem I really see with it is the discard since you don't seem to have a ton of card draw. Wheel of Fortune, Rhystic Study, Mystic Remora, and Compulsion are a couple good ways to draw in your colors if you need more.

Not bad. Not bad at all. I'm laughing cause all I can think is how my Clash of Wills; Braids, Conjurer Adept deck would fair against this. Auto +1 from me.

March 23, 2015 3:49 p.m.

Lol feel free to playtest it against my deck and let me know how it came out. Btw it's funny because I love your Braids deck, so it's cool that you would say that.

Lol, +1 for the name. have you considered Goblin Electromancer?

March 26, 2015 4:30 p.m.

I have, and I'm going to be playtesting him over the next few weeks. The reason why he's not in here, is because this deck likes to cast the majority of its instants and sorceries through free copies (Melek, Howl of the Horde, Chandra, the Firebrand) so its costing less to cast isn't as relevant as it could be. However, I'll still test it out, because I have to pay some sort of mana to copy the spells, so it could end up being a boon. Thanks for the +1 and suggestion!

This looks like a cool deck, +1. Also if you want to keep playing all of your spells, use Eye of the Storm so each turn you get to play your spells again and again and again.

I use Eye of the Storm in a more chaotic version of your deck Who Owns What?? which may help provide more cards that take/copy other people's stuff like Radiate which also may be a good choice for your deck as well.

Thanks for the virtual thumbs-up, but the upvote count hasn't changed. Did you forget? Lol

I had Eye of the Storm in my original Melek build, which was more in-tune with what most players assume a Melek deck should be built like. The reason why it's not in here, is because my opponents would then get to use all of my spells to pick through my deck (and let's face it, I'm the one stealing their shit, so my deck is the auto-target if any of them get to use my spells for whatever reason) so I'm not comfortable with helping out my opponents with my own deck. (Remember: it's supposed to be * me * playing * their * deck, not the other way around.)

Radiate, on the other hand, merits further testing. I love effects like that in my Glint-Eye Nephilim EDH deck (though not technically a legendary creature, my playgroup gives less than two shits if it's not a legendary, since we all believe it should be), and that combined with Blatant Thievery or the like is just too glorious for me to not consider it.

Thanks for the suggestions! @Coinman1863

Love the deck! Anything that can confidently run Epic Experiment or Eternal Dominion with good results has my respect. Have you considered Leyline of Anticipation (to play all the things at instant speed), Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir for a similar effect, while also protecting your stuff a bit, or Voidmage Husher, because recurring Stifle is surprisingly OP?

Additionally, I'd definitely main deck the Goblin Electromancer because he synergizes so well with the deck.

As for cuts, Control Magic seems a little out of place since it's not an instant or sorcery, and you already have enough of that effect. Ornate Kanzashi, while fun seems like it's a little too conditional. First you have to spend the 2 and see if you want to (or can) cast it. Then you have to actually pay for it by the end of the turn or it's gone. Which, unless your group is just a bunch of other blue red decks, then it seems like it's likely to miss a lot.

I'm going to test your suggestions out tentatively. The only one I saw that is a 100 percent definite is Leyline of Anticipation, and to be (Anne) frank, I kind of wonder why I didn't think of that before. So Control Magic got dropped for that. I'll playtest the others in various roles, and make changes accordingly.

Thanks Killkow!

Happy to help! I like voidmage husher because it hits planeswalker abilities, including ultimates, as well as Perilous Vault or similar effects, and becomes surprisingly relevant in niche scenarios.

I'm liking it more and more now. I'll find a place for it.

Great deck theme and I'll be honest I wish i would have thought of something like this. My Theft EDH deck is much less creative but has a similar idea about playing and stealing opponents cards. While reading through your spells I noticed desertion and I can't believe I had never seen it, needless to say I'll be adding it to my deck soon. Well done sir, well done +1

July 9, 2015 6:17 p.m.

Well thanks! Yeah Desertion is kind of nasty, and it's actually halved its price in the past week-ish, so now's the best time to pick it up.

It's funny. I actually thought of building something exceptionally similar but I decided to go the copy turn/burn/draw myself. If your playing the stealing route why not run something like Take Possession because the split second is super op. Have you also ever thought of running Willbreaker when stores start selling her? Run her with a wizard that taps or untap's a creature and you have a huge board presence.

+1 and thanks for the tips on my deck! melek:wait you get How many copies???

With Empress Galina wouldn't Leyline of Singularity almost me a shoe in? You could steal everything.

July 21, 2015 11:32 a.m.

It's a possibility. However, I'm not a fan of including a card in a deck that really only interacts with one other card in the 99. I'll test with it and see what comes out of it. Thanks!

July 21, 2015 11:34 a.m.

Although... Tokens... Hmm. That just became a lot more viable.

Yep, it's a great token hoser, almost as good as Crawlspace.

Ponder and Preordain give you more Top Deck control for Melek. Mind's Desire, Grapeshot, and Empty the Warrens give you cards that are disgusting to use with Melek, and are pretty much game winners on their own. Sphinx of Jwar Isle is a cheeky way to look at the top card of your library, and decide if you want to run out Melek.

July 21, 2015 3:08 p.m.

I'm really not trying to go the Storm route with this deck, although if the deck idea changes later on to be a more "traditional" Melek build, then those will definitely be up for grabs. Sphinx of Jwar Isle is cute, but I already have a lot of scry in the deck (Jace's Sanctum, Crystal Ball, Eyes of the Watcher). It's all conditional though, so quite possibly the Sphinx could end up making its way in there after all.

I don't think Blatant Thievery + Radiate works as Blatant Thievery targets more than one thing.

I think Keevy is right. You could always use Catch / Release +Radiate + Sundial of the Infinite
