A green infect deck needs two things: pump, and trample. Try putting in boosts such as Giant Growth , Phytoburst and Enlarge , as well as trample enchants such as Primal Rage , Rancor , and many more.

It seems to my very inexperienced mind that such cards as those are more susceptible to deathtouch, removal (adding those cards takes the place of anti-removal), and counterspells. Like I said in my recently edited description, I'm looking to add Phyrexian Unlife along with some hexproof, white mana, and more reliable draw card.

I'm thinking I won't need to be as fast, that I can draw more cards, and that I'll be harder to get rid of. I might also consider adding Naturalize as my girlfriend's new deck consists of lots of flying, Pariah , Inviolability and inviolable creatures.

Pull out what you will, but you NEED to be able to buff up creatures in infect. Trust me on this one my friend. Removal doesn't kick in until turn three or four, if you can buff up your creatures by then, you should be fine.

you don't think Boar Umbra suffices? I like the totem armor it offers.

Keep Boar Umbra in certainly, but that's not enough. You need instant buffs because Infect only needs ten damage to kill, and instant buffs will let you do that. Trust me, I was once hit with enough poison counters to kill ten people using a similar strategy. You may also need more lands.

I'm the stupid sort of person that takes pleasure in winning in stupid ways, or rather, in unconventional or at least tricky ways. I really appreciate the advice, and I understand how it works, I just want to make this deck do something else. I've played it well for a while and I'm ready for it to do something else - with Phyrexian Unlife it's a whole new deck with new challenges.

This can easily be made a Modern legal deck by replacing Wild Growth with Fertile Ground or Abundant Growth , and Primal Frenzy with Rancor . I know Rancor isn't the most budget card in the world ($2 ain't bad though) but it is far superior to Primal Frenzy . Also, you may want to add white mana for Phyrexian Unlife . +1

Thanks, CrovaxTheCursed. I appreciate the advice and +1.

I've got both Fertile Ground and Abundant Growth , so those cards are easily switched in. I'm actually working on a draft of a Hexproof creature/Instant pump deck and am considering Rancor for that, so I'll probably bite the bullet and pick 4 up.

If there was ever a card that's worth money to invest in, Rancor fits the bill. Not that I think it will go up or anything, it's just an all around great card for 1 green mana (it certainly won't go down in price either, barring another reprint). I still have my old Urza's ones :) which ironically is the cheapest set to buy it from lol. Anyway, on an unrelated note, your hydra is vulnerable to removal spells, namely Path to Exile . Some Vines of Vastwood or Ranger's Guile will help protect your assets in the right matchups. There's also a plethora of white protection/indestructible spells to keep your combo alive, all for a sideboard if you decide to make one.

Yes, I know the Hydra is vulnerable, and it may be a good idea to invest in adding Hexproofing to my 4 Alpha Authority , but I'm really more concerned with the removal of Phyrexian Unlife - I think enchantments are much easier to get rid of, and it the deck is stalling, it would suck to lose the game with it's removal. Which is why, if I draw extras, I play them as insurance. Still far from a perfect build.

Just came across Cauldron Haze - looks like a great card to protect everything from Arbor Elf to Phyrexian Hydra - thoughts?

Thanks, zerowner

Witherscale Wurm is a hell ya, Kitchen Finks is too expensive, and with Phyrexian Unlife not necessarily needed.

How about Blowfly Infestation , with melira out you could watch any -1 counters on your opponents creatures go flying round the board killing everything in their wake leaving your creatures untouched?

It's worked well in my melira deck if you wanted to check it out, The Negative Counter Storm.

Thanks, Headers13

That's fun. I'll take a look at your deck, and Sideboard Blowfly Infestation until I can figure out where it fits.

I have a similar deck that focuses more on the Unlife aspect. I threw in some Death's Shadow, Ad Nauseam and Soul Conduit. There's nothing more fun than zombifying yourself and taking that entire win condition off the table.

in my eyes your Melira, Sylvok Outcast is too easy to kill. You should protect her and your Phyrexian Unlife with Greater Auramancy + a Rancor on her.Additionally i would add Time of Need because without Melira your Deck does not seem to be very strong.

Thanks, derhealman. I always appreciate feedback.

Time of Need seems like it could be a good idea, but I think Melira, Sylvok Outcast is pretty well protected in this deck by Faith's Shield, Break of Day and Vines of Vastwood. I used to have Alpha Status in here to protect her, but I've decided protecting her at instant speed is more surprising and more effective.

I was referencing my Phyrexian Unlife build and then realized I hadn't added it to Tappedout. Zombie Self
