Good call Pure_Insanity. I dropped a Faith's Shield to add one. Do you think I should try to find a way to add another?

It's hard to say. It looks pretty fun as is. One more suggestion would be Spellskite sideboard

Of course! I should of have thought of that! I really appreciate your suggestions, Pure_Insanity. This deck hasn't had many suggestions in quite a while, let alone such good ones.

Merlia only got popular because of the merlia-pod combo. Maybe since the whole deck is built around her you should a it. Encase you don't know the combo goes Melira, Sylvok Outcast + Persist creature with etb effects (ie Kitchen Finks or Murderous Redcap) and a sac outlet to get infinite of that etb effect. With infinite life/damage who cares If merlia sees the next turn because you have already won. I'm leaving the rest to you

Thanks, SpiritFangz, I am aware of the combo. I'll consider adding Cap, however, I must point out that I have already included 2 creatures with persist and that Finks would make Phyrexian Unlife and the combos around that combo less effective.

Woke up today and thought, "I should build a Melira deck!" Thanks for doing it instead! +1

You're going to need done cheaper spells in the deck :/ If you end up playing against aggro you're deck won't perform very well even after sideboard. You should try and maybe revolve your deck around smaller 1 or 2 drops that don't die or are effective with infect so it can give you the upper edge against a lot of decks

Thanks for the input, udoomu, however I'm afraid you may be messing with me. There are 22 1-drops in this deck. The average CMC for the deck is just over 2. There are only 13 cards with a CMC over 2. There's a powerful and fast mana ramp. There's removal and protection. And tons of synergy. Are you messing with me?

Totally love the deck +1 from me.
I totally agree with udoomu! Witherscale Wurm, Phyrexian Hydraand Twilight Shepherd are cool and all, but in modern you will never get them on the battlefield, Kitchen Finks is a strong card without Melira, but with her they are boinkers! (yeah I said Boinkers) I suggest 4 of them. I also second the inclusion of Time of Need maybe 2 of them, or just one more Maralen of the Mornsong and just count on her to tutor your combo pieces. remove those big drops (unless this is a just-for-fun casual deck they will never see battle). I don't really get Elspeth, Knight-Errant I mean she is good, but if you are indestructible they will just attack her. plus her powers don't really work in the deck, and it takes 4 turns to go ultimate (does that ever actually happen?) I would take her out too. also even with all of the ramp you have 16 lands is a bit ambitious I would swap out the two Fertile Ground for two Brushland
I have a Melira deck but it is very different, it is designed to win on turn 3 or 4 via infinite combo check. it out, let me know what you think.
"No Pod? No Prob!" Melira's Infinitely Persistent
I have been thinking about adding Phyrexian Unlife but I would have to splash white and after I gain 2,000,000 life by "sac-a-fink" 1,000,000 times it kinda seems useless.

That's why Kitchen Finks isn't in the build. It's either Finks or Unlife, and I decided to go Unlife, namely because Finks is boring, but also because Unlife unlocks combos with Phyrexian mana and Fateful Hour effects.
I get the nasty creatures out pretty often. There's also Noxious Revival to bring them back.
I'm still on the fence about Time of Need. I usually draw into the combo or just ramp to a nasty. Either way is good. So I'm not convinced the deck needs it.

Thanks, McSween7, I did. In my other deck, Fateful Eternity

I hate to break it to you, but this rule exists. Cool deck, but you're going to have to pay that mana for those phyrexian spells while you're at 0.
118.4. If a cost or effect allows a player to pay an amount of life greater than 0, the player may do so only if his or her life total is greater than or equal to the amount of the payment. If a player pays life, the payment is subtracted from his or her life total; in other words, the player loses that much life. (Players can always pay 0 life.)

Thanks, Dalektable, I was thinking about that the other day and thought to myself, surely, I looked that up before adding it to the deck. Surely. I must have. Or not, it would seem.
Looks like I've got some work to do. Any suggestions for cards to replace those spells is welcome.

I like the Twilight Shepherd in this deck. Basically gets you back most everything if there was any mass removal. You could take advantage with any sac outlet for your creatures or even lands.
February 20, 2016 12:31 a.m.
I was mostly thinking it's a badass creature that's practically indestrucitble with Melira, but I'm interested in hearing any synergistic sac ideas you might have.
February 20, 2016 12:35 a.m.
What about Aegis Angel in place of Twilight Shepherd? I know she doesn't have persist therefore cannot come back after being removed, but she's a good alternative.
February 20, 2016 6:05 a.m.
I like Aegis Angel for some protection. But overall, it does not scale up as strongly as Twilight Shepherd. Aegis Angel only protects one other card. Twilight Shepherd protects itself via persist and any/all permanents you have in play depending on what happens on the battlefield.
On top of that, you could build around it for some shenanigans because of it's ETB ability. Though you would need to build around it. For example; you have a Melira, Sylvok Outcast, Twilight Shepherd and a Viscera Seer in play along with 5 other critters that are non-critical. You sacrifice all of the non-critical creatures and your angel to the Viscera Seer and scry 1 6 times. Then the persist triggers putting your Twilight Shepherd back onto the battlefield. Then it's ETB ability puts the 5 other creatures back onto the battlefield. Melira's ability keeps you from putting a -1 counter on your shepherd. You then repeat the entire process. This would let you infinitely scry 1 your library. And if any of those creautures had ETB abilities of themselves or graveyard triggers then you would net even more infinite fun. Replace the Arbor Elf with a Farhaven Elf or add in something like a Shriekmaw. The possibilities are endless. You can even do a version of a Second Breakfast deck. Using the Twilight Shepherd instead of Second Sunrise or Faith's Reward. Sorry for the wall of text.

Unfortunately, I didnt quite read the shepherd correctly and thought they all returned to the battlefield with the angel when it's returned to play. It's still a nice card. Just not quite as interactive as I thought it was.
February 20, 2016 3:14 p.m.
A lot of really good thoughts, there MagicMarc. As far as Aegis Angel goes, the protection effect is just way too costly to be good insurance for Melira. And Melira must be protected, as she cannot leave play once Unlife hits of the combo is broken. That's why there are so few creatures in the deck - to have adequate protections for her. Twilight Shepherd is one of the very few win-cons in the deck. I'd consider another powerful card to take its place, but it would have to have even better synergy with Melira and be even more lethal.

Apostle's Blessing is also good. Gives the choice to protect from artefacts :)
