This is my tier 1.0 mono green competitive combo deck. I love this deck! It can be a bit tricky to pilot but it is sooo much fun to play. Setting down Melira as your general says something along the lines of "There are two other cards in the game that let me combo off and beat all you silly..... Now try and stop me!" The name of the game is to get to either Woodfall Primus or
Aerie Ouphes
with Melira and a sac outlet to win. The deck plays a ton of ways to slow down control players and has some recursion effects so its pretty resilient (the grip of ramp helps too). All comments, questions, votes, and suggestions are appreciated.
Fan Flavor
"Long have I dreamed of this moment. I was left within the Tangle of Mirrodin as a child where I was found by a wandering troll left to rot in exile. My savior wasThrun, the Last Troll. For whatever reason he chose to save me, a metal-less child alone and abandoned in the woods. The Tangle has long since changed, morphed into a place of decay and predatory rampage. Life was hard growing up without metal infused into my flesh. I was constantly teased and ridiculed as a child because of it but look at me now. My body holds immunity to the Glistening Oil of the Phyrexians. I have used the skills taught to me by Thrun and can now pass my immunity on to others curing them of the Phyresis. It was at a rebel camp led by Ezuri, Renegade Leader that this skill was nurtured and encouraged. For several days I worked tirelessly alongside my friends Elspeth Tirel,
Venser, the Sojourner
, and Koth of the Hammer to cure the rebels tainted by the phyrexian oil. Only when I was finished curing the rebels were we attacked by a group of Phyrexians led by Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas but in the confusion we were able to slip deeper into the core of the planet. Once there we discovered the creator of this metal world Karn Liberated in a state of phyresis. His Heartstone had become corrupt. Here Venser sacrificed his own life so that Karn may live. Now at our creators side I seek to purge the evil from this world. Mirroden will once again rise." - Melira, Sylvok Savior
SYNERGY
Melira, Sylvok Outcast - This otherwise unassuming general aims to take advantage of cards with the persist mechanic, unfortunately there are only 2 mono green creatures with persist,
Aerie Ouphes
and Woodfall Primus. By adding a sac outlet we can infinitely sacrifice and recur these two creatures. Altar of Dementia can produce infinite mill. Ashnod's Altar can produce infinite generic mana. Phyrexian Altar can produce infinite colored mana. Greater Good can produce infinite draw for me. Blasting Station can produce infinite damage.
Outlets - Generating infinite mana or ETB triggers can be very useful so long as you have something to do with it. Essence Warden gives me infinite life with the combo. Soul of the Harvest produces infinite draw and
Squallmonger
(primary win condition) lets me deal infinite damage. By using Cloudstone Curio we can have any creature infinitely ETB. This can be especially devastating given the toolbox nature of the creatures in the deck.
Aluren and Cloudstone Curio give me a secondary combo that is capable of setting up the primary. Using any 2 creatures cmc of 3 or less I have infinite ETB triggers.
Carven Caryatid
, Elvish Visionary,
Multani's Acolyte
, and Wall of Blossoms then produce infinite draw. Wood Elves fetches out all of my forests to field untapped for massive ramp. Essence Warden produces infinite life. Eternal Witness lets me infinitely recur my graveyard. Riftsweeper infinitely returns my exiled cards. Reclamation Sage becomes infinite removal, and Wall of Roots will produce infinite colored mana.
Recursion- this is where we reuse cards that have otherwise been spent. Being able to re access cards that have been played allows us to continue using the best tool for each job. Eternal Witness, Crucible of Worlds, Riftsweeper, Buried Ruin, Cloudstone Curio,
Recollect
, Regrowth, and
Deadwood Treefolk
can all allow me to reuse cards.
Tutors- another nod to tool boxing, tutoring allows me to get the exact creature I need when I need it. Survival of the Fittest, Natural Order, Fauna Shaman, Worldly Tutor, Primal Command, Pattern of Rebirth, Tooth and Nail, Birthing Pod, Chord of Calling, Summoner's Pact, and Green Sun's Zenith all give me access to cards still within the deck.
Removal- by limiting our opponents' resources we increase the amount of time we have to get to our combo. Wasteland, Blasting Station, Reclamation Sage, Strip Mine, Primal Command,
Aerie Ouphes
, Dust Bowl, Krosan Grip, Scavenging Ooze, Lignify, Acidic Slime, Duplicant, Tectonic Edge, Unravel the Aether, Nature's Claim, Woodfall Primus, Beast Within, and
Squallmonger
can all allow me to play more interactive magic and keep control of game state.
Card advantage- seeing more cards gives me more options and increases the chances of me finding exactly what I want. Elvish Visionary,
Carven Caryatid
, Skullclamp, Harmonize,
Fecundity
, Sylvan Library, Sensei's Divining Top, Oracle of Mul Daya, Yavimaya Elder, Wall of Blossoms, Soul of the Harvest,
Multani's Acolyte
, Greater Good, and can all let me see more cards.
Ramp and deck thinning- these cards allow me to build incrimental advantage over my opponents' by increasing my available resources and thinning my deck of some potentially less profitable draws. Verdant Catacombs, Misty Rainforest, Windswept Heath, Wooded Foothills, Terramorphic Expanse, Evolving Wilds, Sylvan Scrying, Azusa, Lost but Seeking, Expedition Map, Lotus Cobra, Gaea's Cradle, Ancient Tomb, Primal Growth, Skyshroud Claim, Burnished Hart, Harrow, Yavimaya Elder, Blighted Woodland, Wall of Roots, Birds of Paradise, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Cultivate, Exploration, Sol Ring, Oracle of Mul Daya,
Emerald Medallion
, Sakura-Tribe Elder, Kodama's Reach, Wood Elves, and Myriad Landscape are all part of building this incrimental advantage.
