I found Grafdigger's Cage to be more effective in my sideboard than Tormod's Crypt. Yes this can effect your Lich however that Could be a better sb card for zombies than abrupt decay and tormod's crypt.

LoL derp, I mixed up the activated cost with Visions of Beyond
Zombies suck. They hurt and they hurt fast. Out of the 3 most popular deck types used in high level standard tournaments (which always find their way to local fnm's after people net deck and such) zombies are the biggest problem for this deck. 4c reanimator and bant/jund tempo/control/aggro-control can be defeated by this deck a good amount of times if you play it very well. Zombies just hurt to much and to fast. Deathrite Shaman can deal with them once they hit the graveyard but the problem remains on how to get them there in the first place. Diregraf Ghoul and Gravecrawler are too difficult to deal with early one because you cant successfully trade with the. And even if you go 1 card for 1 of them, they have the advantage of being stronger than your creatures, Diregraf Ghoul is to big to trade with early on in this deck, and Gravecrawler can simply be recasted making it usless to trade with unless you can remove him. This leaves the question, "what to do?" Well I really enjoy Blustersquall . If you don't mind taking some early hits for about 2-6 life, which can be ok if you are stalling until Thragtusk you can overload it and tap all of them down then go on with mid game which this deck is best at.
There may be no way to directly counter rakdos zombie aggro without changing out far to much in this deck, but that is not always the end of the world. You are not building a hate deck. Even if you have troubles with one type of deck doesn't mean you should change everything just to stop it. Sometimes you will beat it. Sometimes you won't. It should do fine against most other decks. Abrupt Decay is just a good card in general and I would suggest just using it or sideboarding it. Sometimes I get the problem of getting hung up on one thing that can beat my decks. There will always be something that can beat you no matter what. Direct playtesting is far to important of a deck building aspect that I can't actually see with out playing it. I don't know who you play against so I can't just say, "add this and beat zombies because that is super important." I can say that you will most likely see it eventually so be prepared but you also I will say that this deck is pretty good at what you want it to do from what I have seen so just go with that and change accordingly to what you are seeing. I like the deck though. A lot. It isn't just the normal $600 net deck that uses all of the stupid expensive stuff just because they are stupid and big. It has a theme, multiple win conditions, and a very solid spell base. It even uses an abnormal color combination. It is a fun deck.

Those damn zombies, lol. I used to run a mono black build and those things are sick! I will play this deck this Friday and update it based on it's performance. I have acquired most of the cards already and I'm ready to lay down the pain. I really appreciate your input and the time you have taken to critique this deck. I owe ya one!

No problem. I only put this much input into a deck if I actually like it a lot. It seems rather enjoyable.

I'd add 1 Basic Forest so you can find a Green source with Evolving Wilds .

Of course the green master would suggest such a thing!
November 30, 2012 12:53 p.m.
Well, doing so essentially gives you 4 more Green sources with the Forest and 3 Evolving Wilds .

Technically i will have a potential of 15 with Deathrite Shaman . Thanks for the input. I'm sure the single forest will do me wonders.
November 30, 2012 1:23 p.m.
You could probably also do with taking out a few Basics to add maybe 2 Hinterland Harbor . I know you're technically already above your need for Green sources, but it really wouldn't hurt you at all.

I'm thinking of taking out 2x Island for 2x Hinterland Harbor . My only problem is having my dual lands coming in tapped do to the lack of basics.

Once the next set drops Od'd recommend putting in all dual and shock lands and removing anything else also utilizing Farseek! Just saying.

Didn't get a chance to play this at Fnm yet since my friend and I were late. We ended up playing draft, which worked out great. Got some neat little toys like Angel of Serenity blah blah.

Chromatic Lantern is good with Havengul Lich because it gives you the mana to cast your opponents creatures. After all, whats more than than swinging with your opponents Geist of Saint Traft .

Overgrown Tomb lets all of your other dual-lands enter untapped.

Sever the Bloodline is a great card against Aggro, especially Zombies. It also works against heavy-populate decks. Maybe 1 or 2 in the Sideboard. You also want to put Vampire Nighthawk in the Sideboard as well. This card is especially goos against B/R Zombies, as it is able to trade with a Thundermaw Hellkite or Falkenrath Aristocrat . The lifegain is also relevant, as it can negate the life loss from Sign in Blood and just generally keep you alive.
Nice deck, +1

I was actually considering Sever the Bloodline . I'm not sure about Vampire Nighthawk though. I'll run a few games with him.

Snapcaster Mage and Fog lol. Looks like a lot of very solid changes. It now has a lot of interesting options and functions. I really like it. A fun thing to note about Evil Twin is that it allows you to copy legendary creatures which is fun but it can also copy hexproof creatures because it doesn't actually target them. So you can kill all sorts of creatures with it. For example, Geist of Saint Traft , Sigarda, Host of Herons , and Griselbrand can all easily be removed if you play that card.

Ok, great deck already with some things to think about... First off +1 upvote...
Secondly, lets say u do get past the aggro turns (1-4) after using some spells and boardwipes... How will you win late game? with your lich? ur thrag?? I might think about a better creature for a late game...
Thirdly, if u have 2 Jaces, why not add reliquary tower(s)? u also have sign in blood.
Overall its a nice deck, and maybe even throw in a couple dissipates? Just to stop an opponent's main card(s)....

I win late game through damage via my creatures or mill as a secondary win con. Deathrite Shaman feeds on their graves and Havengul Lich provides bodies for damage or blockers. card:Jace's Phantasm is a 5/5 flyer after a while... Dissipate is a good spell but I want cards in their graveyard so I don't want them exiled. I never have enough cards in my hand to use Reliquary Tower and I need my land base to be solid.
December 6, 2012 8:53 p.m.
Hey man nice looking deck. I would suggest though that if you are not going with Dissipate I understand, you may want to at least think about Dispel though. It's great at thwarting those ill timed Murder s or Brimstone Volley s or whatever other instant your opponent throws at you. While I can appreciate the value of card:Jace's Phantasm, I use them in a mono-blue mill deck of my own, It seems like your deck would benefit more from something like Desecration Demon s. They area great way to whittle away an opponents line while getting a larger demon, and the more demons on the field the more choices they have to make. Hope this helps.

I never really gave much thought against aggro othr than Thragtusk since everyone in my meta plays bant control or flicker decks. Maybe Ultimate Price or Blustersquall ? I like Blustersquall alot and feel it's a bit under rated. I can tap a whole army of zombies with it or take out their main beater.
card:Jace's Phantasm only requires ten cards in their graveyard btw. I have him in here as a late game beater or a blocker against Restoration Angel . Back to aggro, maybe Abrupt Decay can help against nasty zombies. Thanks for the info man your really helping me out!
