I've been enjoying the sacrifice route for creature removal (Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos, Butcher of Malakir, Fleshbag Marauder, Merciless Executioner, Slum Reaper), half of which are already in the deck. It's hard for my opponents to keep a creature on the board, and makes for very powerful grave fueled creatures (Lhurgoyf, Mortivore, Kessig Cagebreakers, Bonehoard).

Gray Merchant of Asphodel Plus Blade of Selves for some fun. Not to mention blade on anything is fun. Especially if it is ETB effects.

Person has a big board and you have fleshbag with blade on it equals board clear. Well depending on the amount of players in the game.

Gray merchant is really nasty since they all are each other as they come into play.

My meta is fast, competitive, and full of indestructible, shroud, and hexproof. Targeted creature removal is of limited use. That's why I maxed out on sacrifice effects. I added mana dorks to speed up. STE is definitely a work horse, but he's one in a hundred (and we do Vancouver mulligan). And starting my ramping at turn three will leave me in the dust. Turn three, Kalia onto greaves/swing/dropping Master of Cruelties happens more often than I care to say. Besides, the dorks let me pull off a turn three win (happened once). T1 dork, T2 buried alive (mike & trike), t3 victimize and combo out.

Oh, OK. I understand.

My meta is just starting... we refused to play commander for like... 3 years, and now we fell to it. The decks are beginning to be created and bought, so that's why this deck started so... basic hahah. I appreciate your insight in this matters. I will take a look at the sacrifice vs. snipe effects I have available and prepare accordingly, in the event that some motherfucker starts using hexproof, shroud or other sissy effects.

I also realized I just have 1 creature 1-drop. Any ideas besides Blisterpod and Tukatongue Thallid? I also would love to hear suggestions relating to the lands. I'm swapping Thought Vessel for Reliquary Tower soon.

No problem my friend. I am glad you liked it. Have you thought of Painful Quandary it just helps keep card advantage. They either take 5 or discard. Also may I offer something that gives you hexproof. Hexproof Witchbane Orb protects your grave yard. It may not be a problem yet in your meta, but eventually your friends will get tired of the graveyard shenanigans. I play Karador and people have started to make adjustments to their deck because of mine. Personally I like exile effects, but black and green do not offer a whole lot there. I really love what the touch of white brings to a deck Like this. Best of luck to you my friend.

I really like this deck, and it's pretty cheap too, with the SOI expansion, I would recommend Inexorable Blob and Vraska the Unseen, though I think adding her would bring so much hate to the meta.

Memoriae Thanks man! I'm in the process of building it. The price might go a little higher but not too much. I try to make these things affordable hahah.
I still don't have the optimal cards, although I'm trying not to follow the primers 100% (see Balustrade Spy for that matter hahah)... otherwise this deck would be just another Meren deck.

I have thought of Vraska the Unseen, but I am no totally sure if she's worth it... I don't see thaaaaat much value in her right now.
As with the blob... It triggers when it attacks, so it's not the best choice for this deck, where ETB and LTB effects shine brighter.

Thanks for checking the deck!

I switched out the Mycoloth from my deck in favor of Avenger of Zendikar because Mycoloth was slow to get any advantage out of. I thought of trying to add Savage Summoning so he would not have to survive everybody's turn before producing tokens.

Treehugger003 I'm on the verge of cutting of Mycoloth too... it's a powerhouse but he has to survive one full round of turns to do it's thing at least once. I don't think I'm gonna go with the Avenger of Zendikar for 2 main reasons, the first being that it is too typical and just cares about the Plant type... and the second: I already use Mitotic Slime, Abhorrent Overlord and my lovely Symbiotic Wurm for token/mana generation. And man, let me tell you; the wurm is awesome hahahah

I am now concerned with Bloodspore Thrinax,Phyrexian Plaguelord, Eldrazi Monument and the effective use of Overwhelming Stampede/Pathbreaker Ibex. Any insight on the performance of those cards would be much appreciated :D
Suggestions on replacements for the aforementioned are welcome too

Cheers to all!

Might I suggest Spore Frog and Millikin? Workhorse isn't all that bad either.

I've never successfully used the Bloodspore Thrinax (where it survived long enough to really generate tokens) mainly because it takes set up. My play group runs a ton of removal. In general 3/4 players per game is running some combination with black. So I try to use bloodspore only when I know I can cast a creature immediately to take advantage of it. That being said, I still keep him in my deck. With Meren if you use the devour ability its instant XP.

I love the Pathbreaker Ibex I've won several games with it.

Phyrexian Plaguelord is another card that makes it in my deck mainly to deal with indestructable creatures.

The Eldrazi monument i've never actually cast. I've had it in the deck but I've either had it early game without a board state to support it or late game by which point I'm either already going to win or lose. I still have it in my deck for now though.

I would personally cut Abhorrent Overlord and replace with Smothering Abomination, while it does not produce tokens, the card advantage is awesome, and can be coupled with Awakening Zone or From Beyond for even more. I really like Sidisi, Undead Vizier in my build (commander croft) and totally recommend it. Bonus: Smothering Abomination, like Sidisi, Undead Vizier, can sacrifice itself to its ability.

You need 100% more Spore Frog! Also some other suggestions that are great with Meren:

I love playing Meren with small dying creatures for profit, just like Chittering Rats to lock your opponent's hand and Augur of Skulls to empty his hand.

  • Optimator: it was a nice ceremony, lots of people crying ;)

  • MattDovah: Chittering Rats is a MEAN idea man, nice! I'm gonna put it in the maybeboard. I'm trying to up the count of green value creatures though.

yeah, great!

So what about Wood Elves? nice piece to reanimate to ramp easily each turn (like th old fashioned Sakura-Tribe Elder, but the forest can enter the battlefield untapped, which is nice, and you can fetch every land with a "forest" subtype, even a Shockland).

Also Evolutionary Leap can be nice. Cheap enchantment for its mana cost, helps you tutor a creature by sacrificing another one (usually a chump-bloching one) and triggers Meren!

While I am aware you have considered the primus, Mikaeus, the Unhallowed+Woodfall Primus+Altar of Dementia = table-flipping good times

Also, that Kokusho, the Evening Star is insane in Meren.
