So the reason for dimir house guard being in the deck is as a tutor? Should I list the tutors that black has access to that are better for mostly any situation? Once again I understand craterhoof is powerful. But meren decks thrive in bringing back creatures that will bring value again. Which craterhoof doesn't. Yes it works well IF u have birthing pod out and IF u have just dropped an avenger. Just too many ifs for me, and of course there will b other times it would be great. Just a suggestion

@Wickked Allow me to explain more clearly the reasoning behind my continued inclusion of the cards you dislike.

Dimir House Guard: This isn't even remotely the best card in the deck. It's also not an incredible tutor. It is, however, versatile. This deck needs sacrifice outlets. It also wants tutors. This card does both, depending on what you need. That's good enough for me, especially in a format that thrives on singletons, where everything ideally serves more than one purpose.

Craterhoof Behemoth: While Meren does indeed provide great value by reanimating creatures, it is important to note that most of the creatures that work in a deck with her are small, at least in terms of stats. Ending a game can be painfully slow if your biggest attacker is a 2/2. One also must recognize that Meren is not the only method of reanimating creatures in a well-built Meren deck. I have Reanimate, Animate Dead, Sheoldred, Whispering One, and more. All of these work well with Craterhoof to put away games that otherwise would have gone on for much longer, likely giving an opponent the chance to stabilize. It is my firm belief that Craterhoof Behemoth should be an auto-include in any deck that focuses primarily on creatures for these reasons. It is not just good in the "magical Christmas land" scenario. It is a game-ender in all sorts of situations, even with a relatively small board.

Please note also that when making suggestions about what cards to cut from a deck, it is important to provide alternatives. I.e., I can't just remove cards from my deck. I need to replace them with something better. Thanks for your interest in my deck, and I hope what I've said helps you understand my deckbuilding decisions.

Path breaker ibex would be a great alternative to craterhoof since it would give u value every turn other then the one that it comes out. It would instantly become a creature that would have to be dealt with. Some pet cards of mine include necropolis regeant, creates alllot of counters, overseer of the damned, board presence and removal, reaper from the abyss, more removal, visara, even more removal. Vorniclex is an absolute house that I will eventually get for my deck. My deck has no problem winning by combat at all. Having jarad and Gary help win if that's not possible for whatever reason. U should give my deck a peak. Your advice would be greatly apreciated. You seem to have a great understanding of how u want your deck to work though, so I'm not going to second guess you

Have you considered the new Noxious Gearhulk??

Do you like Scavenging Ooze more than Deathrite Shaman?

Nim Deathmantle over Dimir House Guard? It goes infinite colorless mana with Grave Titan.

Similarly you could try finding space for Phyrexian Altar and then, with a little more zombie support, you could run Gravecrawler instead of Bloodghast and have infinite colored mana.

Hey, just wondering what you think is better in my deck Noxious Gearhulk or Doomgape? Thanks.

TheMagicKid I'd say Noxious Gearhulk cuz it gives it kills any creature you want on the field. Doomgape forces you to sac a creature each turn. It's a disadvantage because creatures are far more useful than life in edh tbh. Another way I'd put it is, I'd rather kill the voltron commander than gain more life each turn.

Ok So I do have a problem right now... it seems like excile put this deck at bay and shuts down this deck entirely... might need a card for excile reanimation..

Try Riftsweeper if you need the exile recovery.

Riftsweeper is a great card but honestly I just try to have answers for the cards that are shutting u down.most of them are enchantments and artifacts Reclamation Sage Caustic Caterpillar Acidic Slime Bane of Progress are prolly the best value answers that can also be useful to take out other cards that can be causing u problems.

Most of what I deal with are instant speed....

DoctorRouse, what kind of instant speed exile are you talking about specifically? I have a lot of answers for that sort of thing and I'd be happy to discuss it with you on here or over on my Meren deck page.

Usually its bojuka bog and swords of plowshares when I dont have a sac outlet....

October 26, 2016 8:20 p.m.

I would say you need more sac outlets so you can kill your dudes in response. You can also play Dense Foliage or Asceticism if targeted removal is an issue but to deal with the bog you can do a few things.

I can probably find other solutions too, let me know what you think.

October 26, 2016 8:38 p.m.

Well not Bind I guess but Voidslime works.

October 26, 2016 8:44 p.m.

tendouji says... #18

Squirrel_of_War I think DoctorRouse plays a Meren deck so he can't run Voidslime. Riftsweeper is the best card for this tho. This is why you dont dump everything into your graveyard.

This deck is awesome but I just would like to say you could replace Bane of Progress with something else because it can gt real fat but if you loose Asceticism or an Animate Dead or something else then your creatures are left vulnerable to removal

November 10, 2016 1:36 a.m.

Also can i suggest Spike Feeder? because you're already running infinite combos so may as well add it

Also i would add Bayou if i would have money. That thing is very expensive but probably the best B/G "Fastland"
