Merstrictor

Sideboard

Merfolk deck with Winding Constrictor for Deeproot Elite, Merfolk Branchwalker, Jadelight Ranger, and Jade Bearer.

Some average plays by turn

T1: Optimal play is Kumena's Speaker

T2: Good plays are Silvergill Adept, Merfolk Branchwalker, and Merfolk Mistbinder.Optimal plays are usually Winding Consrictor > Deeproot Elite to setup your value engine.

T3: This is when the deck really takes off. Playing Deeproot Elite followed by a Jade Bearer with Winding Constrictor in play nets you 4 +1/+1 counters. If you have Deeproot Elite in play or in hand try to drop two merfolk on T3.If not Jadelight Ranger, Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca,Jungleborn Pioneer can be very good T3 plays.

T4: drop two merfolk to push dog or try to refill your hand.

Important things to remember:

Deeproot Elite Triggers on a merfolk entering the battlefield not cast so Jungleborn Pioneer triggers him twice. Along the same line Deeproot Elite can place counters on any merfolk not just itself so you can diversify your threats pretty easily. If you need to you can play a Unclaimed Territory and name snakes to play Winding Constrictor.

Budget Considerations and other options for the deck.

Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca and Jadelight Ranger are pretty expensive right now. Some substitutes include Swift Warden, Tempest Caller, Vineshaper Mystic, and Tishana's Wayfinder.

Blossoming Defense is a great card to protect our important merfolk like Deeproot Elite, Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca, and the honorary merfolk Winding Constrictor. However this could easily be Fatal Push or Unsummon. The choice is up to you until I can test the deck more I believe Blossoming Defense is the best option as it is easier on the mana base.

Mist-Cloaked Herald is a great option for guaranteed damage. Cutting one Jadelight Ranger, one Jungleborn Pioneer and one or two Blossoming Defense to play 4 could be correct for both the extra reach later on in the game and additional one drops to trigger Deeproot Elite.
