A Competitive Sharuum build that needs some tweaking. Work in progress. The idea is to keep the feel of classic Sharuum while keeping up with the fast-combo lists of today, as Sharuum has gotten less tools than nearly every other commander in the last few years.

The idea is that you mill yourself with Basalt Monolith + Mesmeric Orb

Mesmeric Orb doubles as a piece of disruption that we can play around - it upsets several topdeck tutors and decks that insist on running High Tide / Bubbling Muck / Candelabra of Tawnos. Basalt Monolith is a self-paying rock that grants a net-gain with cost reducers or Voltaic Key.

We are aiming for T2-T4 wins. The KCI and eggs package helps to make this a possibility. There are potential hands with T1 victory, although they are as rare as you would expect.

THE TORRENTIAL PACKAGE

After milling your library you have to cast Sharuum once.

1. Target Torrential Gearhulk with Sharuum ETB
2. Target Ghostly Flicker with Torrential Gearhulk ETB
3. Target Sharuum and Torrential Gearhulk with Ghostly Flicker
4. Target Second Sunrise or Faith's Reward with Torrential Gearhulk ETB; Target Sculpting Steel or Phyrexian Metamorph with Sharuum ETB
5. Resolve Sharuum ETB
6. Copy Sharuum with Sculpting Steel/Metamorph
7. Sacrifice the Fake-Sharuum as SBA
8. Target Altar of the Brood or Blasting Station with the Fake-Sharuum ETB
9. Cast the Second Sunrise/Faith's Reward - Sculpting Steel/Phyrexian Metamorph returns to play
10. Execute the Sharuum loop and win the game

ALTERNATIVE: THE LABMAN PACKAGE

This combo is slightly more mana intensive. Swap out Torrential Gearhulk, Ghostly Flicker, and Cloudshift. Swap in Laboratory Maniac, Unburial Rites, and Deep Analysis. Alternatively keep Ghostly Flicker for the utility and get rid of Deep Analysis.

Mill your library:

1. Flashback Unburial Rites targeting Laboratory Maniac.
2. Play Deep Analysis or other draw spell.

Gitaxian Probe in hand keeps the CMC of Labman combo the same as Torrential.

1. Necropotence - Rarely bad if you can get it out.
2. Chrome Mox
3. Cabal Ritual
4. Dark Petition - Tutors are always good. This one is hefty.
5. Aphetto Alchemist - Alternate win condition for 4H, but speed is a concern.

I also want to test the Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter package. It may be as irrelevant as running Power Artifact here, but just a thought.

META INCLUSIONS / DISCLUSIONS

COMBO-CONTROL ENVIRONMENTS

This is the 'default' environment for competitive decks and Sharuum.

• Pull from Eternity if a piece gets exiled
• Stifle for certain decks may be a necessity and can work as a second Flusterstorm
• Lodestone Golem is also a viable pick in a more combo-heavy environment
• Ethersworn Canonist has worked to some degree in previous builds against storm
• Cavern of Souls is a viable land-replacement if Sharuum keeps getting countered and you are having trouble playing around it
• Armageddon MLD is a great tool against UGx decks

AGGRO, MIDRANGE, AND HATEBEAR ENVIRONMENTS

Although we are faster than most aggro decks, we occasionally will hit a snag or they will power out an early control piece. If this becomes common, we may look into swapping in the following:

• Swords to Plowshares
• Anguished Unmaking
• Cataclysm / Cataclysmic Gearhulk
• Armageddon

EGGS BUILD

Situational inclusions.

• Conjurer's Bauble is an option to grab a particular card after milling
• Expedition Map viable if necessary
• Nihil Spellbomb meta-dependent
• Future Sight telegraphed and atrocious casting cost
• Open the Vaults is a hefty finisher but is grounds for self-killing on Ad Nauseam

REANIMATOR BUILD

For the person who finds Unburial Rites useful and wants other wincons. This is likely less efficient in terms of manacost, but is viable in the right meta.

• Blasting Station as another Sharuum target
• Disciple of the Vault as an Unburial Rites target

NOTE ABOUT OFF-COLOR FETCHES

My current meta doesn't like the off-color fetches for whatever reason, but I will run them if the meta allows. In my previous metas, they were fine.
