While it doesn't give Hexproof, Shroud or Indestructible, I think Spellskite fits here. Because you can pay life instead of mana, you can almost always redirect a target from the commander to Spellskite.

I think it's also good. Because it's some kind of protection, with no additional mana required. While it's sometimes easy to get around, it's not always working if the opponent doesn't have anything to waste targeting the general before casting their removal. But on the other side, it doesn't pair well with all other protection cards. You would have to pay to equip Darksteel Plate if the first target get countered... I think.

Because you already included Indestructibility, I also wanted to point that all totem armor aura (like Eland Umbra, Bear Umbra, etc.) and Umbra Mystic are quite similar.

Thats a great point! The umbras will be added as well, but Umbra Mystic is a bit too unreliable to make the list.

What about Saffi Eriksdotter ?
It's almost a Selfless Spirit or Dauntless Escort.
It doesn't work exactly the same and target a single creature (the commander), but you get new 'enter the battlefield' triggers and it works against sacrifice effects like Celestial Flare.

Okay, I think I have another weird one. Captured by the Consulate.
Basically it protects your general against spot removal by redirecting the target on something else.
Technically we could almost include Grip of Chaos too, because your opponent needs some luck to hit the right target at this point.

In the same style, Goblin Flectomancer can change the target of a removal spell.
That would also be true for Perplexing Chimera.
They are like a single use Spellskite.

Uskebasi, unfortunately those go against the first point under "What this list doesn't include" in the description. The reason that this list doesn't include cards that require mana to be paid at instant speed is because those cards are only effective when you have mana open, and with so many cards that don't require you saving mana just in case, why include cards that ask you to not use all available mana?

Would that include Pact of Negation, Force of Will, Disrupting Shoal, etc. ?
