Have you considered protection spells that let your commander be hit? I'm talking about instant speed; industructibility, regeneration or even phasing out.

I feel Not of This World falls between the cracks of this and the targeted answers list; it's imo about as good as Deflecting Swat for commanders with high base power

Coward_Token The problem is that it can't stop spells with "This spell can't be countered" (inherently, or acquired), triggered abilities, or activated abilities.

Sure it's free, but it's not a whole fulfillment of what the cards on this list need to do.
