This deck started with
Glimpse the Cosmos
. It’s like a sorcery speed
Dig Through Time
that can always be played on turn two.
Dig Through Time
costs 2+ mana to take 2 of 7 cards and
Glimpse the Cosmos
costs 2 than later 1 mana to take 2 of 6 cards. Good deal!
So
Glimpse the Cosmos
needs some giants.
Bonecrusher Giant
is an auto include. Now that we’re in Red the question is how many
Embercleave
’s, 3 or 4? That's a great start.
There are good high CMC giants in Green and White, but I decided to stick to two colours and without green for ramp we’re limited to lower CMC. That guided my choices for other giants.
Crystalline Giant
is very easy to cast and makes a good turn 3. Always play it on your first main phase to get the counter at combat. More often then not, this ends up with useful counters on it.
Aegar, the Freezing Flame
has been working out surprisingly well. When this works it can generate huge card advantage. This makes
Frost Bite
’s 3 damage extra valuable and means
Squash
almost always draws a card. When your 1 and 2 drop creature removal also draws a card you are winning.
Shatterskull Smashing
potentially draws 2 cards. This effect applies to all the decks creatures since they’re all giants. Be careful when assigning double strike and trample damage to multiple blockers, I’ve messed it up greedily trying to draw extra cards.
Calamity Bearer
wins games fast. Stick an
Embercleave
on him for 16 trample damage! Multiple
Calamity Bearer
’s stack in a way that I don’t actually understand, but I know if a giant goes unblocked you win.
Negate
is really good here. The deck has lots of other ways to deal with creatures.
This is a fun and original fair-magic midrange deck, so far I am winning more them I'm losing. It's a little clunky with twelve 3-drop creatures, but it usually works out. Let me know what you think.
