Hello everyone,
Here is one of the deck I'm working on. This is the snow-basics version without
Arcum's Astrolabe
This is a midrange deck featuring
Bring to Light
helped by
Niv-Mizzet Reborn
. This archetype broke through some times ago. To my mind, it is a very personal deck since anyone can fit its view in it by adding or removing cards from the toolbox. The maingoal of the deck is to shot silverbullets at specific decks.
The deck is really fun to play, especially postside where all of your silverbullets fit your deck and can be found with bring to light.
As I said, the card choices are very personal, I will explain what is mine in multiple categories :
1 / The "tutor" engine :
4
Bring to Light
3
Niv-Mizzet Reborn
1
Primal Command
Bring to Light fetches in 3 out of 4 cases Niv-Mizzet to fuel our hand. During my playtest, Niv-Mizzet draws between 3 and 7 cards which is not that bad for a 6/6 flyer for 5 mana. It draws answers to be able to fight against the grindier decks.
Primal command permits to tempo and to tutor Niv-Mizzet in many occasion or to simply gainlife against agro decks.
2 / Mana base and mana fixing
The mana base is particular because of
Ice-Fang Coatl
namely. 6 snow-covered basics permits to enable the deathtouch condition of the coatl and to suffer a bit less from the lifeloss of fetch-shocklands. Shocklands are all W/X or G/X to be fetchable with
Safewright Quest
.
Pillar of the Paruns
are very convinient and does not work only for
Birds of Paradise
and
Primal Command
in the maindeck.
Concerning the manafixing, I am using
Birds of Paradise
,
Safewright Quest
and
Wrenn and Six
to get back my fetches.
3 / Silverbullets
One core parts of the deck concerns the silverbullets takeable with Bring to Light.
Maindeck :
1
Supreme Verdict
=> against merfolk, humans and creatures deck.
1
Unmoored Ego
=> all kind of combo decks, valakut, tron, Urza.
Postside :
1
Fracturing Gust
=> against all artefact based strategy (Affinity, Thopter foundry ...).
1
Crumble to Dust
=> against tron, valakut namely.
1 Izzet Saticaster => against token, Urza ...
1
Kambal, Consul of Allocation
=> against burn, Phenix, storm.
1
Lavinia, Azorius Renegade
=> against As foretold decks, tron.
4 / Utility Planeswalkers
One part of the deck concerns low-cost utility planeswalker that can disturb the opponent strategy and can be taken by a Niv-Mizzet trigger.
1
Nahiri, the Harbinger
=> unchecks she can give a Niv-Mizzet attack and trigger and filter our hand to have answers. Plus the deck does not have much RW cards to be taken from a Niv-Mizzet trigger.
1
Kaya, Orzhov Usurper
=> The Minus ability is key and help to fight against many decks such as Amulet. The plus ability helps to fight against graveyard decks.
1
Domri, Anarch of Bolas
=> The plus ability helps us in the fight against Control decks which are one of the worst match-ups of all. He helps to trade a deathtouchy coatl with a threat with the minus ability also.
1
Teferi, Time Raveler
=> Helping here again in the control match-ups and is a good tempo enabler to reach the fifth land-drop.
5 / Midrange engine
The last part of the deck deals with midrange cards that help us to untap with 5 mana up and slam the bring to light.
1
Huntmaster of the Fells
=> Utility creature that is easily taken with niv since the deck is poor in RG cards.
2
Kolaghan's Command
=> MVP in the deck that permits to take back a Niv from the graveyard and can handle permanents.
1
Detention Sphere
=> I see in sphere a good way to handle all kind of permanents. Since we are playing pretty singular cards, the risk to exile one of our own permanent is reduced.
1
Thought Erasure
=> the choice was between erasure and
Castigate
. In both cases, the amount of cards matching the combination of colours is not significantly high but I prefer the surveil comparing the exiling matter.
3
Lightning Helix
=> Tutorable removal spell that permits to tempo against burn and other decks. It attenuates also the lifeloss from the manabase.
3
Ice-Fang Coatl
=> A pet card of mine, that is a unexpected blocker, maybe a deathtouch blocker and draws a card when entering the battlefield.
1
Countersquall
=> The one-of countersquall is discutable but this catch-all card stopped some heavy threat sometimes. Maybe exchange with
Dovin's Veto
but the deck have more UW cards than UB cards.
3
Assassin's Trophy
=> Answer to all kind of permanent and permit to slow down some strategies (tron especially).
6 / Sideboard complementary choices
1
Ashiok, Dream Render
=> Join the team of the utility cheap planeswalker that can disrupt heavily the opponent strategy.
1
Knight of Autumn
=> This knight is a good answer against many decks and can be brought in against burn and artefact decks mainly.
1
Fulminator Mage
=> Handle manland (one the deck weakness) and tempo tron decks in order for us to bring to light a ego or a crumble to dust.
1
Abrupt Decay
=> A catch-all removal spell that can make the difference against BG/X deck for instance.
1
Vexing Shusher
=> the goblin is brought in against control deck to try to resolve spell or at least be a threat to handle for the opponent.
1
Cindervines
=> Goes in against Phenix and artifact decks.
2
Damping Sphere
=> MVP against tron and phenix decks.
2
Rest in Peace
=> One of the best way to deal with dredge and graveyard decks.
Again, card choice for this kind of deck can be very personal according the card pool we have access to !
Feel free to propose some other good inclusion and discuss mines !
