Sorry for de-railing the deck discussion, but don't you think the monarch mechanic will be banned from EDH? Otherwise all decks will need mechanics to get/remove the monarch 'property' from a player?
Cheers

Once someone becomes the monarch for an ability that says you become the monarch. if anyone of the other players deals deals combat damage to you then they become the monarch. If there deck is not built around the monarch mechanic then nothing will happen. plus you can always take the monarch back by doing combat damage. It will not see a ban

I for one think the mechanic of Monarch only enhances what was already a group multiplayer game. My playgroup has already tested this and it's wonderful, much fun and I see no reason for there to be any discussion about banning it.

Hey Loremonger86, thanks for stopping by. Regarding replacements for Sol Ring, Sensei's Divining Top & Strip Mine, definitely up for debate! Strip Mine is just a personal staple of mine that I run in all decks because I'm rude like that. It's definitely not imperative to the deck, just run whatever land you like in place of it. Sol Ring also goes in every deck by default, too bad about the ban! Maybe you're playing Duel or something? Anyway, perhaps another ramp spell is in order there. Something like Explore, Rampant Growth or Farseek...Or maybe even a dork (Birds of Paradise, Oracle of Mul Daya, Solemn Simulacrum etc)? So now Sensei's Divining Top. Yet again, another card I would run in every deck if I could but I don't own too many of 'em. Instead of top deck manipulation, why don't you go for another way to 1 shot folks with Atarka? Maybe something like Berserk, Stonewood Invocation, Rush of Blood, Surge of Strength...That kind of thing.
Helpful?

Monarch could be neat, possibly even fun (especially political in larger FFA games which is what Conspiracy drafts are supposed to be all about)...I just loathe the idea of giving my opponents an advantage of any sort, especially card advantage. I think it'll be a cute novelty in EDH for a while and then Queen Marchesa will go straight to the Tier 5 pile (disclaimer: absolutely nothing wrong with playing a funsies or even tuned Tier 5 general deck...I admire it!).
Controversial, I know!

Forkbeard I agree with you that giving your opponents any advantage at all is something that I like, I just feel in a certain deck, like my maelstrom something like, Skyline Despot will be fine I think. :)

Yea I was informed while hunting the pieces for this deck down that the ban list the locals go by won't let me use those. But I really appreciate you getting back to me. I'm not great at building decks but I can play them and that's the fun part.

The art of deck brewing can be super fun! I really get into it and sites like this make it even more enjoyable. The ideas and conversations that go back and forth is what it's all about - You should post a few of your decks and we can tune 'em.

Love your deck. It inspired my own. A couple new conspiracy cards that would fit well here are Selvala's Stampede and Selvala, Heart of the Wilds. The stampede can be a win condition especially with a haste enabler out. selvala herself can rampa lot and give you a little card advantage

Hey MegaMatt13, thanks! Really good call on the new Selvala cards, definitely going to give them a try. Stampede will be especially awesome here.

Slotted Selvala's Stampede in place of Earthquake. I have a few other Earthquake style effects in here already (Ryusei, the Falling Star, Scourge of Kher Ridges & Thunder Dragon) and I'm really keen to try Stampede out.

What about mirroring dragon or thunderbreak regent
September 18, 2016 7:21 p.m.
I don't have any instant or sorcery spells in here that would benefit Mirrorwing Dragon & Thunderbreak Regent is just too weak. Shame because I love that foil full art!

Thunderbreak full art is nice. I was just thinking that mirroring in its own way is protection opponents don't typically like targeting their own cards for kill spells.

Hey Forkbeard what ever happened to trying out Triumph of the Hordes?

I have an Atarka, World Render deck and I recommend Thunderbreak Regent and Mirrorwing Dragon
Thunderbreak Regent gives your team pseudo-protection while Mirrorwing Dragon is impossible to remove unless your opponent wants to wipe their own board.

Ah, I see. I totally wasn't thinking about the spot removal angle with Mirrorwing Dragon, that's pretty clever! I still think Thunderbreak Regent is underpowered for what I want to be doing - If it was 'creature or player' he'd definitely be in here.
Triumph of the Hordes is great in certain decks, but I found it win-more-ish in this one. It's good but not needed.

Hey Forkbeard, I was updating my own deck Atarka's Brood and wanted your opinion on commander damage buff cards such as Berserk, Blazing Shoal and particularly Stonewood Invocation which is almost always a guaranteed kill
Also, I'm unsure about putting Wild Pair in the deck, do you really find it worth it with the 6cmc slot already so crowded?
And what are thoughts on Sylvan Library for this deck?
Thanks!
November 20, 2016 8:35 p.m.
Hi VincentVonVeltschmerz. I think all 3 of those buff cards are excellent one-shot win cons - I also really like Stonewood Invocation as it gives Atarka pseudo-hexproof as well. I should definitely add it.
Not only is Wild Pair a really fun card, being able to tutor these high casting cost dragons into play is very powerful. It's a great toolbox card, especially if you've got a haste enabler out. I'm aware that it's a little slow & janky, but I've had decent success with it here.
Sylvan Library should probably be in every deck that runs green. If I had a spare copy kicking around I'd definitely add it!

What about adding Overrun it will make sure your dudes can hit for a crap ton to the face

Those are both fantastic cards, the question is what to remove to make room. It's a tough decision as I've spent a lot of time honing this deck and if I were to make cuts, I think I'd opt for 1 hit combat tricks (Stonewood Invocation et al) rather than 'go wide' effects.

This probably won't help this deck, but Atarka, World Render combined with Vorosh, the Hunter would make for an AMAZING dragon deck (Vorosh, the Hunter would get the 6 +1/+1 counters, then hit a second time (doublestrike) with the extra 6 damage)
April 20, 2017 5:36 p.m.
Heh, yeah. Definitely a sick pairing in a Scion of the Ur-Dragon deck.

Cool deck I am interested in playing it myself. But it seems that top sol ring and strip mine are banned here. Tips on what to put in place of those?
