Ulvhedner: The reason is simple, I'm dumb and forgot all about it. Same with Rhystic Tutor. As for Read the Bones, I thought I was playing it! It's in my real deck, I must have removed it from here by accident or something, it's amazing!

Ulvhedner: Well damn. I decided to find a way to fit in those tutors and I quickly figured out the reason I didn't add them earlier. They are too expensive. Insidious Dreams is $1.00, FAR too high for this deck I'm afraid (If I could add in any ~$1 card without breaking budget it would probably be Jet Medallion) .
Rhystic Tutor is $0.43 which is also too much for a card that has such a drawback.

The cost is now lie enough to play Skullclamp!!! It is worth 1$ from the last commander pack, and I think it would be the best draw possible:
- Ashnod's Altar + Skullclamp and any sac fodder and you are good to draw your entire deck!

Just figured out a way to win by milling your opponents !!! using an infinite sack outlet with Pith Driller you can combo with Bitter Ordeal to exile each players library. Its an expencive card but i just thought it was funny.
November 23, 2014 10:29 a.m.
hazarr: Yeah, Bitter Ordeal is already in the Upgrade section
thegigibeast: I'm being careful with increasing the price as if a single card goes up in value I'll no longer be below $20.Sol Ring is definitely a card worth running. Although Jet Medallion is even better!

Please upgrade description and also could you explain all of the upgrades section :)Just add it card by card and you'll be there in no time!

Not bad overall, especially for a budget deck. +1 and Thumbs Up.
As far as things I would personally like to see with this deck:
Enchantment removal. Obviously that's an issue in a deck like this, but perhaps Liquimetal Coating might be something for you to consider. That, over Mycosynth Lattice, since Lattice isn't a budget card. (Then again, neither is Gate to Phyrexia, but that's why we have Phyrexian Tribute, right?) That said, I do like the fact that you have incorporated Unstable Obleisk in this deck, but as much as I like it, I'm not sure you're running enough mana rocks, much less any deck reshuffle effects, to get any real early game value out of it. I could see Unstable Obelisk, like Spine of Ish Sah in a Daretti precon, but not in a deck like this; it takes too long to get out and you want to deal with problem enchantments like Leyline of the Void and Rest in Peace as quickly as possible.
Since we're kind of going in the direction of douchebaggery, why not include a token package and a mass sack outlet, like Smokestack, and the like? Last I checked, Stax, much like Prison, is a pain to deal with, and adds an element of defense that some decks just can't handle. It also, indirectly, deals with the enchantment problem, and more importantly, gets around problem enchantments like Karmic Justice and Martyr's Bond.
Koskun Falls is a funny card for other aggro decks to deal with, since it's your version of Propaganda.
November 25, 2014 12:52 p.m.
simondiamond2012: Thanks for the suggestions, but reaching 7 mana is hell of a lot easier than getting liquimetal coating into play then sacrificing two creatures to cast phyrexian tribute and destroy one permanent (One option requires 7 mana, other option requires FOUR cards, where one does literally nothing in my deck until I draw the gate to phyrexia)
That, and it functions as ramp when I don't need the removal. Gate to Phyrexia isn't awful but it's too expensive and it only deals with artifacts, not enchantments. If you look through black enchantment removal (there is none) and artifact enchantment removal (that is budget friendly) you would see that I run ALL of it.
2: Smokestack is $5.
3: Koskun Falls: Too expensive and requires constant upkeep which isn't worth it for the little effect it has.
itisme282: Sorry, but adding a description to every possible upgrade would take too long and take too much space. The upgrade list is huge (and can easily be longer). I update the deck description regularely as the deck changes.

I really like what you've done here! +1 from me!
I'm not a huge fan of Charcoal Diamond. Caged Sun has dropped in price due to its being reprinted in Commander 2014 (I think the 2014 printings are running around $2.00 now). Jet Medallion is also down to around $2.00. If those are out of the question, I think Darksteel Ingot or even Springleaf Drum are better, since they don't come in tapped. And there is the always useful Explorer's Scope. Or the new Commander's Sphere.
I am sure you have considered all of these cards (I notice you still have Darksteel Ingot mentioned in your description but it's no longer on the decklist).
Oh, and Buried Ruin is super cheap and can be a life-saver.
Great build!
November 26, 2014 4:33 a.m.
TwoMagicDudes: Thanks! You approach Charcoal Diamond from the wrong angle, it is in fact far better!Even though the Diamond enters tapped, it would only tap for one mana, which is one mana you would have used for casting Darksteel Ingot. The upside however is that you can cast this turn two, leaving four mana for turn 3.
I kind of do want to push in a few more manarocks though, I feel I could use at least two more (Darksteel Ingot and Commander's Sphere) but I just don't know what to cut so I haven't done it yet. Jet Medallion is the next expensive card I would add if I could fit it in.
I used to run Buried Ruin but took it out once it went from $0.10 to $0.5 for some reason.

Yeah, I've just found that a later game Charcoal Diamond draw can be kind of annoying. Turn 2 Charcoal Diamond is awesome, because who needs to really do anything on turn 2.
It's a shame that Cauldron of Souls is like $3.50 because it combos with Mikaeus like nobody's business.
November 26, 2014 3:31 p.m.
TwoMagicDudes: Topdecking a charcoal diamond lategame is no different from topdecking a 3 mana stone. One costs 2 mana and cant be used the turn it comes into play, one costs 3 mana but gives 1 mana, making it also cost two. The only possible benefit is if you need to convert colorless into colored mana, but this is a monocolored deck so that's irrelevant.
Cauldron of Souls doesn't combo with Mikaeus, it dies, then re-enters the battlefield as a new card with no memory of its previous temporary buffs. You can only sacrifice a creature with the cauldron buff once for free (which is still pretty good, but not a combo).

I'm saying that you can put undying or persist on the stack in the order you want, so you have it die with undying, then sac it again with persist from the cauldron. It's not an infinite combo. Not all combos are infinite.
November 26, 2014 7:56 p.m.
If it doesn't go infinite or kill every opponent, it's a synergy, not a combo.

This seems like a really ridiculous semantics debate to be having.
November 26, 2014 8:03 p.m.
The basic point is that since Cauldron of Souls does not offer any combo potential, and this is a combo-oriented deck, it's far too expensive to include for merely a strong synergy.

Will it make you feel better if I say that you are right and I am wrong? I'm just trying to make sure you feel safe and happy here.

Easy steps to go infinite with cauldron of souls:
1) Have Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, Cauldron of Souls, Dross Scorpion and a sac outlet in play.
2) Tap the cauldron, then sac your scorpion.
3) It will come back, then untap the cauldron.
4) Sac the scorpion again, but this time let persist trigger instead of undying.
5) Rinse and repeat (it will enable you to infinitely sacrifice all other creatures too).
November 30, 2014 11:49 a.m.
thegigibeast: That works and all, but it would require me to run Dross Scorpion which doesn't combo with anything in my deck (still a really good combo enabler).

I just finished playing - ooops....I meant winning ;) - 2 rounds of EDH just now piloting this deck and Sleazebag bro, I got to hand to you man, this is deck is something else. When it kicks in, it just goes boom. Now my casual group playmates are starting to co-op against me by default!
Anyways, one of the guys had used the Sworn to Darkness Commander 2014 deck and I was on the receiving end of a rather interesting and possibly useful card in there that I'd want to suggest - Syphon Mind. Its a USD 0.14 card that both impedes opponents and gives us card draw - the more opponents the better!

pleasuresaurus: Glad to hear man, and I have no idea why I'm not playing that card! 4 mana draw 3 in itself is enough, the discard is just gravy. There are so many awesome cards I see being played all the time that I just forget to consider for some reason. No excuse to not run this in mono black.
In 3 player matches it is still good enough due to the discard, terrible 1v1 though, but 1v1 isn't what this deck was made for.

Great work! Looks super fun to play too. There is a YouTube channel dedicated exclusively to building budget magic decks: Budget MTG Decks

If it was cheaper, I would go for Kokusho, the Evening Star!!!
