Is Traveler's Amulet to slow to run? I have some just sitting around (probably for good reason). It probably is, just wondering because i have like 12 from draft chaff.

Midn8: It's god awful in a mono colored deck. It's strictly worse than a basic swamp card.
December 7, 2015 2:38 p.m.
But it thins the deck by 1 card! :P
No, that's probably why they are sitting in my junk box.

WOW. Finally got the chance to playtest this, and it pulls out consistent turn 5, 6, 7, 8 kills. This is going on my christmas list.

I love it! I'm going to show my friend this deck just to shut him up because he whines that commander is too expensive (meanwhile he spends $250 on a modern deck that has a poor win rate :/)
December 9, 2015 9:47 a.m.
Midn8: Thanks for pointing it out, fixed now :)
Podma101: Yeah, that's the exact reason I made this deck. To shut up my friend who whined about how my EDH decks only beat his because they were so expensive.

Hate to say it. Pith Driller isn't an infinite sac outlet. The -1/-1 counter may negate the +1/+1 interms of p/t, but it would still have one of each counter on it, stopping the undying ability. Unless something else I haven't seen makes it infinite.
December 13, 2015 9:54 a.m.
fartzilla: +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters remove each other. It's literally impossible to have one of each counter on it.

Priest of Gix Could be fun? Sac with mikeaus for 6 mana?

if you would like maybe a lower drop sac engine that also gives deck information in game, i'd go with Viscera Seer. maybe a little spendy for you, but it's definitely worth trying. in an infinite combo scenario, you could basically just organize the rest of your game.
I hit an infinite mill combo with your commander, Grinding Station, and Tatterkite. really fun deck to play, and sure to just stomp the living hell out of your opponents, one way or another.
December 13, 2015 5:18 p.m.
Noremac815: You know what, I used to play Viscera Seer in this deck, but took it out since I didn't have enough draw. Comboing out, getting infinite scries, putting the one card you want on top, then waiting a full turn to draw the card you wanted... Let's just say people won't sit around and wait for it to happen. But I have added more draw to the deck since then, and even if they know it's coming it can be hard to stop perfect draws. So I decided to re-add it to the deck in place of Fleshwrither which was 3 cents more expensive anyways.
Glad you are enjoying the deck!
SimplerDecked: The problem with priest of gix is that he costs 3 and makes the mana on ETB, so you only gain 3 mana, after mikaeus is in play. An alternative I used to run (and is definitely still viable) is Cathodion. He makes colorless mana, but he does it on death, which means you can play him one turn, then the following turn play Mikaeus, sac him twice, and cast for example Triskelion.

I was getting set to buy this deck on TCH, and happened to notice that Mikaeus, the Unhallowed was not on the list for some reason. I went to search for him, and he shows for around 10$ no matter where I look. Is this something you are aware of, that the commander is not factored into the price? Am I missing something?

jonspal the deck was added a year ago, i guess the prices just have changed.
December 22, 2015 3:46 a.m.
@EpicFreddi His last update was in November and his last comment was a few days ago, so I think that he actually keeps track of this beast and keeps the price below 20.
On a side not, is it possible to get a copy of the commander with the artwork featured in this post? I would def fork some money out for that.
December 22, 2015 3:53 a.m.
@jonspal & EpicFreddi: Man, I typed out this really long and well thought out reply and tappedout crashed, deleting it. So I kinda lost motivation to reply, but now it's gone a few days and I'm going to try again.
You have revealed my dirty secret, you are completely right in that Mikaeus is NOT factored in on the list to the right. There is however a good reason for that, and the deck value is still in fact less than $20.
The reason that the list doesn't include Mikaeus is because that list is flawed in the first place. Back when I made this decklist, Tappedout showed 3 different deck prices, Low, Median and High.
This "new" deck price ONLY shows TCG MEDIAN prices, while I've always followed TCG LOW. I grew tired of people looking at the price list on the right side and complaining that the deck was "actually" $35 without looking into it, so I removed Mikaeus to make it look a bit closer to the actual price.
Now, the TCG LOW price of this deck DOES include Mikaeus, and it is still less than $20! That includes $10 for Mikaeus alone! I actually checked the TCG low pricing a few days ago and it had become cheaper than the previous time (Mainly due to Commander 2015 pushing a few prices down), and yes, I do closely follow the decks price and change it if it ever creeps above $20. I've had to cut cards like Blasting Station, Sol Ring, Infernal Darkness, Basalt Monolith etc to keep the price creep in check. :)
@jonspal: As for the alternate Mikaeus artwork, you can find a link to a high quality image and guides on how to make your own sexy proxies if you open the "Guide to Budget Deckbuilding" section. It's my ultimate advice to those who don't want to / can't pay $10 for a Mikaeus. There's also lots of other awesome alters to find there.
December 25, 2015 10:09 p.m.
Okay, Ill have to check that out. I plan on still getting an actual version of Mikaeus, but I really like the way he looks in the image.
I spent hours and hours on TCG trying to buy this deck. I'm not sure you are aware, but it is literally impossible to buy this deck for 20$ on TCG. I ran into several roadblocks.
- TCG direct does not have all of the cards. This means that I need to buy from several stores. I was able to adjust everything pretty well, to avoid killer shipping costs, but I still had problems thanks to...
- Minimum buy limit. You need to purchase at least one dollar from each store you buy from. This is no problem, except that...
- TCG starts you at the lowest price available. This means that consolidating orders raises the prices of some cards from low to median or higher. This led to me spending roughly 26$ on the deck, including shipping, but not including Mikaeus himself. That I will buy at the local shop for around 10$, putting the practical price of this deck around 30$.
I could be wrong, I could have made mistakes, and if I did, I would like to know what they are. This has been a fairly stressful experience.
December 26, 2015 3:10 a.m.
jonspal: Yeah, sorry. When building the deck I never took into account the actual shipping expenses and similar, realistically decks will always be a bit more expensive when purchased, normally the amount looks negligible (Like $20 shipping when buying a $200 deck), but when the deck price is so incredibly low it has a way bigger impact ($20 becomes $30). For example there will always be a few cards that are worth nothing, but none of the major retailers have in stock, forcing you to buy a single $0.05 card from one guy and paying shipping for that alone. What I recommend then is to cut said card and replace it with another cheap alternative that they DO have in stock and that does a similar job, but this is a lot of work and for most it isn't worth it just to cut the buying price down by a few dollars. It's more of an experiment to see -how- cheap you can make it than something practical.
For example, as a European, I can get this decklist far cheaper than an American just by using MagicCardMarket, which is just so incredibly cheap. So the practical price for me IS less than $20!
December 26, 2015 11:15 a.m.
I would recommend that you add that to your description. Something along the lines of: TCG prices will vary depending on which vendors are in stock. The 20$ price does not include shipping or vendor overcharge. That is entirely up to you haha.
I can't wait to get it in, Ill let you know how it goes.
December 26, 2015 11:30 a.m.
jonspal: That's a good idea, I'll get around to doing that :P
December 26, 2015 12:09 p.m.
I realize this might not be the right place for it, but I tried converting your sub-$20 deck into a ~$40 deck, and was wondering if you might be able to take a look at it; Mikaeus EDH? I'm still trying to be budget-y, just with less restrictions than the $20 cap allows for.

Over this holiday break I was gifted a lot of money from my family so I began wondering what upgrades I could make to this deck. What upgrades under $100 total do you think would greatly improve this deck?

Noremac815 says... #24
this deck by itself is already pretty nasty, but if you really need to upgrade it, start with the removal. quite a few of the removal cards in the deck list are purely situational, but you could sub those out for more hard removal. sideboard a Thoughtseize and maybe throw in a Butcher of Malakir, and its not necessarily better, but a little more stable and another win-con.

the Lilliana planeswalker from Origins would be pretty nasty in this deck, and pretty easy to get her to transform.

MoistingItUp: Unfortunately it can't, as Undying Evil will return the creature with a +1/+1 counter, but it won't have undying anymore as it is a "new" creature, meaning the next time it dies it won't return.
KhanofGolgari: Thanks!
SimplerDecked: Yeah, amazing how expensive you can make this deck if you pick the wrong editions. I've had lots of people do that then complain to me about my price being inaccurate :P
As for making an upgrade list, I've been considering doing it for some time (to save myself having to help people all the time), but it's the exam period so I'll be waiting a few weeks.
