Midn8: Never preorder! If you are going to a pre-release, I'm certain you can trade it to you for $1-2, or at least buy it for far far less than it would preorder for.

Sleazebag: Oops my bad. I thought you said "it's as good as Triskelion for 0 mana".
It is interesting how it can function as an infinite sac outlet, a finisher with infinite mana, and a finisher with infinite sacrifice all at once though. It literally bleeds synergy

Sleazebag I meant preorder it from my LGS, which uses the MTGgoldfish prices (release day price snapshot). Shouldn't be expensive there.

Can someone explain to me how removing the counters works with Mikaeus?? Like with Triskelion he comes in with 3 +1/+1 counters and he can remove them. However, Mikaeus acts as an aura so does that not mean he cannot take off the final +1/+1 or am I missing something crucial here. I really like the deck, I just hope someone can clarify this for me!
January 17, 2017 11:59 p.m.
Sleazebag yes however the final +1/+1 is an "aura" from Mikaeus isn't it? Since it is not technically a counter, it cannot remove it itself therefore it can't die and come back to life under Mikaeus using its own ability, right?

Cradum Walking Ballista can shoot things. By removing a counter from it, target the 1/1 creature called Walking Ballista.

Sleazebag and chosenone124 I completely get it now. I feel very dumb seeing as how the answer was right there and I could not put 2 and 2 together haha. Thank you!
January 20, 2017 12:21 a.m.
Well damn, I really didn't expect Walking Ballista to spike up to $16 out of nowhere. Probably going to take months for it to settle down again.
Midn8: Hope you went through with that preorder and got it cheap!

Have you considered adding cards that get stronger as creatures die like Ob Nixilis, Unshackled?

Plasmarocket, that would just be a bad Zulaport Cutthroat, Blood Artist, or Falkenrath Noble.
The goal of this deck is to go infinite. If I had to choose between an infinitely big creature with no protections or making all of my opponents lose infinite life, I would most definitely pick the latter.

I'm building this deck and recently got a Fourth Bridge Prowler from a Aether Revolt Booster. It costs only 1 mana and works as a Sac Fodder. Very cheap card.
January 30, 2017 1:43 p.m.
julioc: Unfortunately, Fourth Bridge Prowler does not work. There's a difference between -1/-1 counters and -1/-1 until end of turn.
+1/+1 and -1/-1 counters negate each other, so a creature entering with a -1/-1 counter will remove the +1/+1 counter, allowing Undying to trigger again. Fourth Bridge Prowler will just give itself -1/-1, while still having the +1/+1 counter on it, meaning Undying can't trigger.

Sleazebag Oh, pardon my newbieness I'm starting to play MTG, thank you for the knowledge!

How good is the deck vs Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, Leyline of the Void, Anafenza, the Foremost and other replacement effects of the sort ? i really like the deck and would like to build it but my meta has all kinds of baaaaaad thing to play against.

Vexilte: There hasn't really been any cards in the new sets worth adding that are cheap enough, if I see one it will be added. Mostly I'm just hoping for a Mikaeus reprint sometime, maybe in a Modern Masters set as a rare or something, or in a commander precon, that would be great!
Ze_Geuse81: Goes without saying that you can't win while those cards are in play. Kalitas and Anafenza aren't that big of a problem since you can kill them before going off, although it does make it harder, if it's a common problem you may want to add more targeted removal to the list.
Leyline of the Void is a goddamn nightmare. Nevinyrral's Disk, Eye of Doom, Ratchet Bomb, Universal Solvent, Scour from Existence and Spine of Ish Sah are your only budget solutions for that.

What about stuff like Haunted Cloak, Gavony Unhallowed, Bone Splinters, Zulaport Cutthroat? They all seem applicable
February 11, 2017 8:48 p.m.
Vexilte: Haunted Cloak and Zulaport Cutthroat are both viable options. Zulaport is in fact great, but it's $0.5! Haunted was also a bit too expensive on release I felt, but it seems like it has gone down enough by now that I could use it.

I am so building this deck, it's cheap and efficient.
My playgroup is pretty strong, how do you keep Mikaeus alive?

Black is not renowned for its ability to play counterspells, nor is it good at playing instant speed protection spells. No blink effects either. The only thing you can do is get equipment such as Lightning Greaves or Swiftfoot Boots to protect it.
You can also rely on the stax enchantments (Contamination and Infernal Darkness) to keep your opponents off relevant mana, though black is a removal heavy color. Finally, you can use Cavern of Souls to make sure Mikaeus cannot be countered.
The main weakness of this deck is that you are reliant on a high CMC commander with no innate protections. Unless you draw extremely well, there isn't much you can do about it

I wonder if Mikaeus, the Unhallowed will ever reach above $20 on TCGLow by himself (making the deck goal explicitly impossible).

also Geralf's Messenger and Cauldron of Souls are neato

Sleazebag That card looks really good, I will definitely pre-order that.
