Doesn't Crypt Ghast's b/w extort make him illegal for a monoblack edh deck?

Thanks for clearing that up, Ohthenoises, I probably should have checked the comments first. This is excellent news! I really wanted to put crypt ghast in my monoblack deck but didn't think it was legal :)

Hey, i built a similar deck that was based on this. Just an idea that might be helpful... [Worldslayer] =] You have mike and a handful of other creatures on field, you put it on one of them that has fear or flying or whisper-silk cloak it after, then swing. all your opponents stuff is gone and you get all of your creatures back onto the field except mike ready to swing the next few turns with no response from opponent =]

AND if you have Darksteel Plate on mike you can keep him too =]Btw sorry i forgot how to link image to card name, i haven't been on here in a while =P

You gotta have the Heartless Summoning man. It combos with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed

@TatteredWings Worldslayer would be fun, but I'm worried that it would get me too much hate as soon as I lay it. I already get ganged up on when I get any combo pieces out. I'll try it though, I have enough tutors to get it plus Darksteel Plate out at the same time.

@203995014 I had Heartless Summoning in at the beginning, then I took it out because it killed too many of my early guys, but now that you bring it up again, I don't think that was a good reason to remove it. Most of the small guys it would kill are in here to combo with Mikaeus, so playing them before he's out doesn't really make sense anyway. I'm gonna put it back in and see how it goes.

I'm gonna remove Bitter Ordeal and Forbidden Ritual to make room. I don't think I've ever used Ordeal the way I want to, and Ritual doesn't actually work the way I thought it would in this deck, oops :)

Also, if you have Mikaeus, the Unhallowed out, they come back because of undying.

What about Corrosive Mentor for additional -1/-1's on your opponents creatures and/or Bitterblossom , it's nasty with Contamination

As a serious fan of mono black I absolutely love this deck. I am almost be tempted to build it just because my local meta would go bat cap cazy trying to deal with it (black is not an overly popular color in my meta unless it is splashed in for removal)

hunter9000 says... #11

@larsenp I'm considering putting in Bitterblossom , I just have to decide what to take out. My friends would hate me IRL if I pulled that off with Contamination :)

@Bellock86 Thanks! If you do build it, remember that this version is focuses on early game insta-win combos, so expect a loooot of hate game 2 if you win. Still super fun though.

Do you mean imprint it on Isochron Scepter ? That's a pretty nasty trick, but I only have one other instant in the deck, so I don't think it would be worth it here.

Ha yea kind of a far fetch for EDH but still nasty to have a counter/-5 life loss spell for 2 colorless.

You missed three sac fodders: Lunar Avenger , Skinrender , and Spincrusher .

hunter9000 says... #16

I'm glad you posted that, I swapped out Chainbreaker for Skinrender in my actual deck at some point but didn't update it on here. I've considered the other two before, but Lunar Avenger is too expensive/slow, and Spincrusher doesn't have any other utility. Right now I think Lingering Tormentor is the weakest creature in the deck, because it's expensive for it's body, and it doesn't do anything except recur itself. I appreciate the suggestions!

Triskelion and Pentavus + Heartless Summoning + Mikaeus, the Unhallowed = either infinite damage or a helluva lot of tokens.

I have a Mikaeus deck that is indebted to this one. A very good source of intel and card-gathering!

I can't believe no-one has mentioned Oblivion Stone . One of your only ways of removing Artifacts and Enchantments. Also there's All Is Dust .

Also I agree with Personalchaos in that the protection equips are generally unnecessary. I usually find it's better to draw and ramp until I have enough mana and combo pieces to lay down a win in a turn or two. Just don't play Mikaeus until you have the rest of the combo down. You can easily ramp into 12 mana, wait for opponents to tap down, then lay Mikey and Triskelion. Doesn't always work, but without the equips you will have more threats to back it up the next couple of turns.

Just my take. Mikaeus is amazing!

Hey, doesn't Crypt Ghast count as both W/B because of Extort?

Fortunately it doesn't! The w/b symbol is in the reminder text, which isn't included in a card's color identity.

If that's the case, you could make great use out of Thrull Parasite of course, it would be really slow at removing counters, though. You'd want to focus on gaining life. Damn, if only Griselbrand wasn't illegal.

hunter9000 says... #23

Yeah, I've considered Thrull Parasite before, but like you said he's too slow. If only he didn't tap, I'd run it.

unfortunately, -1 -1 counters do not cancel +1 +1 counters, so you cannot have infinite sacs with a creature that has persist or enters with -1 -1 counters.

"Undying relies on the last known information about the permanent just before it was put into a graveyard. If that permanent had a +1/+1 counter on it, then receives enough -1/-1 counters for it to be put into a graveyard due to having 0 toughness or lethal damage marked on it, it won't return to the battlefield despite the state-based action of +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters "cancelling each other out". As the permanent last existed on the battlefield, it had a +1/+1 counter on it, so undying will not trigger." http://wiki.mtgsalvation.com/article/Undying

Bellock86 says... #25

@reconaissance ~ I'm pretty positive that wiki ruling is wrong. -1/-1 counters and +1/+1 counters cancelling each other is a state based action as is damage or toughness reduction checking for a toughness at or below 0. In the scenario listed it basically says that the counters cancelling is negated because the toughness went to 0 or under. I don't believe it actually works that way. Epochalyptik ~ thoughts?
