Mill it with fire! Wait...
Game Plan
Yeah, that's pretty much it. Play
Sphinx's Tutelage
, use creature removal as needed, draw cards. For bonus points, play Alhammarret's Archive and curve into
Dragonlord's Prerogative
to draw 8 cards, which will fuel your Treasure Cruise for 6 cards after you have to discard.
Backup Plan
If for some reason we can't combo off with
Sphinx's Tutelage
, our next option is beat down with dragons or burn out. This deck provides both Thunderbreak Regent and Icefall Regent on the beatdown, as well as useful spells to remove pesky blockers, such as
Draconic Roar
.
Super Secret Sideboard Tech
The Pro Tour indicates that red aggro is currently very strong, and the sideboard is tuned to beat that. Negate,
Fiery Impulse
,
Encase in Ice
, and
Seismic Rupture
are removal or pseudo-removal to beat burn spells and/or a swarm of small creatures. As a bonus,
Seismic Rupture
doesn't down our dragons.
Talent of the Telepath
provides additional mill, and can also steal some of the red deck's burn spells. Disperse and Tormod's Crypt can shut down the
Rally the Ancestors
combo, with the additional ability to empty a graveyard and disable delve and a slew of other abilities such as Haven of the Spirit Dragon.
Deck Credit
This brew is strongly based off of Andrew Cuneo's deck at Pro Tour Magic Origins.
Other Notes
This is a budget deck. As much as I would love to be running Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
, I can't afford him.
