Heya people of the magix community!
This is my attempt of a post-rotation milling standard deck. Everyone loves mill, and even tough many of the classic mill cards are no longer with us, I think this might actually work.
Playstyle & theme: the deck resolves around Phenax, God of Deception and wall-ish creatures with high toughness, this is in turn combined with
Kiora's Follower
and Prophet of Kruphix for even more turns at the mill! I will go through the cards in detail further down but this is the core.
The choice of Colours & Cards -The deck is green, blue and black, green for ramp, blue/black for the god of milling!
Creatures & Gods
Phenax, God of Deception: The heart of the deck, you want this fella out asap and start mill, the devotion is unlikely to be reached, but can happen occasionally.
Dragon's Eye Savants: Powerful blocker with ridiculus toughness for his cost, can also be morphed for some bonus utility, but will mainly be cast normally.
Kruphix, God of Horizons: This god is so wierd and funny that he deserves a spot here. His role is to stack mana and he fairly easy becomes a creature with all the U/G creatures in the deck. With prophet in play you can easily stack up 5+ mana per turn, charging for an utterly devastating villanious wealth.
Sylvan Caryatid: Standard mana-ramp with in-build protection, simply brilliant. 3 toughness on top of that to block some aggro and also 3 for the mill!
Kiora's Follower
: Flexible creature that can either help boost mana early or allow a tough guy to mill twice, or block and mill or any combination of that you want.
Prophet of Kruphix: Superb card, a bit expansive but its such a nice thing to have. With 2 creatures, God and prophet u can easily mill 10+ cards per player's turn.
Courser of Kruphix Powerful creature, helps you get your mana and get rid of extra lands in addition to give you som life back. Also a solid blocker/miller with his toughness 4.
Sorceries & Planeswalkers & EnchantmentsKin-Tree Invocation: Very powerful card in this deck, for any of the "walls" out you get a 5/5 or a 6/6 as early as turn 3. Can be used for either damage or mill after that.
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver
: Like the coolest guy ever, he is like bomb, no but its micro mill, with a chance of stealing something funny. Stealing is caring!
Kiora, the Crashing Wave: Lady Kiora might not contribute directly to the milling machine but she serves her uses, boost mana & cards with the -1, or delay with the +1 bubble. Plainswalkers in general are nice in the deck as they force the enemy to act, especially if they hide behind a couple of walls, putting a clock on the opponent.
Villainous Wealth: Speaking of stealing, this card is hilarious. Just throw it late-game for with an x of 5+ and hope you hit something good, if not, at least you got rid of a couple cards. Every card gone matters!
Sultai Ascendancy: This card gives you more control of what to draw (nice in combination with the coursier, to get rid of lands & cards you dont need for the moment). It also provides 2 devotion for both Phenax and Kruphix. Im not sure if I want 1 or 2 of them tough. Ill decide that later.
The LandsPretty straight-forward. A solid base in green, fetch for the two "off-colours" and some mix and match of the lands in the deck, nothing enters tapped at the moment to not lose any momentum. Might change in the future tough.
The Sideboard.
Hero's Downfall: One of few cheap removals left, will likely be sideboarded in against a multitude of decks to get rid of creatures to big for my walls, plainswalkers etc. At the moment i keep 2 in mainboard as well, but they go in and out based on opponent.
Negate & thougtseize: This are going in against control decks, mainly to counter any mass removals (since supreme verdict is gone (thank God) most of them are counterable now. Thoughtsize is to remove them even before they are used. Tomb for anti-delve.
Plummet
: No one like fliers! No one! mainly for Demon desecrator and other totally lame guys along that, cheaper then Hero's downfall if those are the main threat.
Naturalize: Spot removal for artifacts & enchantments, extra useful with all them enchantment creatures around.
Finishing words
Any suggestions of improvements are welcome (and thanks if someone actually bothered to read all the way down here.I will be putting the deck together in the upcoming week (got a weekend of pre-release first). I'll see how it turns out.
Hail Phenax! Lord of the mill!
