Turtle, there is one deck, however it isn't really top tier in modern because most of it's ways to enable it's win cons are banned or are too old, but, it still does exist and it's called dredge. Now it isn't exactly the same strategy but it still runs around the main theme here which is self mill. The main difference between this deck and a dredge deck however is that dredge decks don't align the hedrons or have a way to stop themselves from milling out, rather they use a card called Bridge from Below and a combination of other cards to in the game. the other cards vary from deck to deck, some running cards such as Bloodghast and Blasting Station while others run Flame-Kin Zealot and ways to re-animate him after making a pile of tokens.
For those who are thinking about how to make this into a modern deck without building dredge I would still suggest some of the cards used in dredge such as Golgari Grave-Troll to help with the self mill and maybe even still run Bridge from Below as an alternate win con. The problem with running this deck in modern is that in modern most decks are able to win on turn 4 and while I'm not sure I don't think that a modern version of this would be able to win on turn 4 so It would need a disruption package to slow the other decks down which would decrease this decks overall effectiveness.

I really like this deck but for some reason whenever I playtest it I always get mana screwed :/ I don't understand though because there are 23 lands. Anyway +1

I played tested this is a little bit and found it was quite a fun little deck.
I made some slight changes to make it work against other decks.
-1 Murderous Cut +1 Sultai Charm
I'm playing some fetches in the main board along with the Hissing Quagmire instead of Jungle Hollow.
In the Sideboard-4 Typhoid Rats +4 Ruthless Ripper - Can plays a 1/1 DT, morph it and flip by revealing a black card doing 2 damage.
-2 Palace Siege + 2 Negate Found the negates were handy versions the Silkwrap/Stasis Snare battles.

hey dustwind8!
I really like your version of the deck. The Hissing Quagmire is a very good addition. I also like the Den Protector's ability to get cards back from the graveyard, but i think it is still too pricey for my version of the deck. good luck in testing it!

Thanks monkeynutts85 for your ideas! I really like the substitution of Ruthless Ripper and I think I exchange them in my deck after I test them a bit. I also like Negate in the sideboard, but I might swap what it subs in for, because I personally like Palace Siege. Good luck! And may the Hedrons align in your favor!

Yes it sure is. This might seem like a horrible break of deckbuilding laws, but it works fine for me. I have debated cutting it down to 60, but when all the cards work towards the common goal, and the idea is to self-mill, the 4 cards go very quickly.
I am currently testing a 60 card version, which is going smoothly. I may end up cutting permanently down to 60, but I need to figure out what cards to drop.

The easiest +1 I've given in a long time. Congrats for this deck, bro! Great choice of original cards that most people don't have the guts to use. I mean, Inverter of Truth and Hedron Alignment?? That's just nuts! Nicely done and it seems to function really well. The only thing I'd suggest was the same thing the guy above said, to cut it down to 60 cards. But if you say it works with 64 maybe you don't really need to do it. Cheers

First off, I love the deck so it was a quick +1 from me. I already owned almost all of the cards, so I picked up the few that I was missing the other day and started playtesting. I've already come across more than a few issues. Mind you, I've tested the deck against some pretty good decks, decks that would do well in FNM so take all of this advice with a pinch of salt. I'm just desperate to see this deck become consistent, lean, and mean.
The deck is just too slow. There's almost no way around it. I don't know what decks you've tested this against, but I was nowhere near to self mill in any of the roughly 18 games I piloted the deck which forced me into attempting alignment on my first library mill through, which is extremely difficult. Inverter of Truths is an awesome card, but since I never came close to self milling out, it just ended up sitting in my hand for almost the entire game- every game. I could play it early, but my board was nowhere near threatening enough at that point, and I would have ended up exiling 3 Hedrons as well, which is obviously not an option because if I can't win through aggro, then the main point is to align the Hedrons. I really don't care for Bitter Revelation. I replaced it with Gather the Pack, as the goal is to self mill faster, and a 4CMC self mill card is not good enough. On top of that, you take 2 precious hit points just playing it. Typhoid Rats are better replaced with Ruthless Ripper as it adds more utility, and isn't a disappointing draw mid to late game as Typhoid Rats can be. Gurmag Anglers might be a good substitute for Rakshasa Deathdealers. I love Rakshasas, but they are mana sinks, and if you're spending mana on a chump blocker instead of self milling, you're distracting yourself from the win con. Gurmag can help you with your exiling, and if someone removes Gurmag then you've just bought yourself another turn of being alive for basically one swamp tapped. A little bit more removal for main might be necessary depending on match-ups, so Bone Splinters are good for that as they work well with the zombie tokens that seem to be consistently around the board. Dig Through Time would be the most perfect card for this deck, if you ended up dumping the rest of the cards you don't grab instead of putting them on the bottom of your library, but being able to sift through the top 7 cards of your library is huge. I know that none of the cards go to your graveyard afterwards, but it's another way to kind of tutor some very important cards at the end of someones turn for 2 blue mana. Den Protectors have gone down in price, so if you're not trying to stick to a tight budget, they're perfect for this deck. Accidentally dump too many Hedrons in your graveyard? Well with Den Protector that's no longer an issue. Recycling anything you need from the graveyard with Den Protector could be huge in this deck in general.
Once again, I love the deck! I don't mean to sound critical or down on it, I'm just trying to come up with answers to some of the nastier things in standard.

Like the deck and the idea of those 2 cards. I have a deck with Hedron Alignment as my 2nd win con along with Sphinx's Tutelage called Sphinx's Alignment! if you wanted to check it out. Fascination can b another card that will help ur graveyard plan.

Inverter of truth can be replaced with or complimented by [cranial archive], and I'm going to try 3 [dark petition] with more self mill and hand disruption to see how it plays out. I aligned the hedrons against a Kalitas deck, and before my upkeep where I would have won revealing my hand,I had succumbed to transgress the mind :-(

Hey bvowles!
Thanks for your comment, that was a lot of work :) I totally understand what you are talking about. Although this deck uses a lot of underused cards, it still isn't the best deck in standard. I am also trying to make it better and more competitive, because after all, jank decks are the most fun when you actually win!
I actually really like your substitution of Gather the Pack for Bitter Revelation, also from many comments, I really like Ruthless Ripper instead of Typhoid Rats.
I am a little bit surprised that after all of your testing you never were able to get close to milling out, but if that is the case, it needs to be addressed. I am a little bit wary to add some of those cards because of the prices, but I can understand how helpful Den Protector and Dig Through Time can be.
Thank you so much for your comment, by the weekend I will make another deck with many of your guys' suggestions and start testing it to see what cards I am going to swap in for this official deck.
Thank you all so much!

Once again, I love the deck, thanks again. It's really fun to mess with and play. Just adding another Sultai Skull keeper and a few 2CMC self mill cards along with Dig through time were immensely helpful in short play testing allowing me to nearly mill myself and guarantee certain pieces along the way don't get dumped. I'm going to make my own version later today and I have a feeling that I'll be tinkering with this deck a lot.

I really, really love this deck's scheme... so much so that I've been inclined to build it myself to antagonize other local players.
That said, have you been looking into what to do when so much of this deck cycles? I know there haven't been many spoilers as of yet.

I have no doubt that this is a good deck. But with alignment as a alternate wincon it looks unfocused a bit. The deck really seems to feed off creatures. But there's only 15. Sidisi, Brood Tyrant will likely miss a lot. Still, I love the concept. Great job.
March 5, 2016 12:54 a.m. Edited.
Pulse of Murasa seems like it could be solid against aggro decks. Turn 2 self mill, turn 3 Pulse back something, and gain 6 life.

Pulse of Murasa does seem like a good card! Thanks for suggesting it to me. I will have to test it out a bit.
Also as a side note. I have been watching the SOI spoilers closely, and I really love them. It seems like the madness, discarding, and graveyard shenanigans will really help my deck out. I am very excited for this set to come out!
March 5, 2016 11:33 p.m.
I know it'll spike the price a little bit, but what about Den Protector should you end up milling 2 of them back to back with Sidisi, Brood Tyrant or any of the other self-mill?
March 12, 2016 6:16 p.m.
So I usually play casual with my friends and would love to use this deck! Are there any cards you would add/replace outside the standard cardpool to make it better?

Hey celsha!
Sorry it took me so long to reply.
I am currently looking to find new and older cards to add to this deck. One very efficient self-mill creature I found was Cephalid Vandal.
I haven't done a lot of research, but a card like Hedron Crab or Life from the Loam would also be good options for self-mill. I am sure there are a lot of other great cards that I am not familiar with, but these might be some good ones to start testing with.
Thanks for the comment!

So I finally got around to finishing up my version of your deck, I hope I get a chance to play with it this Friday, let me know what you think of the changes.
