If you are using the Mill win condition alot, Nephalia Drownyard is a must add.

Why do you have an Illusionist's Bracers in your side board ?

April 25, 2013 2:37 p.m.

willsm87 says... #3

@RiViN159 I put it in there for when I run Nightveil Specter so that I can play 2 of their cards... including their mana.

@SslagleZ28 Good call on the Nephalia Drownyard
@jaturnerN7 I used to do Grisly Spectacle , but replaced it for the cheaper Victim of Night I am thinking about sideboarding Grisly Spectacle back in, just in case I play a vampire/zombie/warewolf deck.

Sorry won't work that way it deals only with activated abilities. (http://tappedout.net/mtg-questions/illusionists-bracers-evolveextortbattalion/) and (http://tappedout.net/mtg-questions/will-illusionists-bracers-double-a-cipher/)

Some things that will let you get an extra copy of the encoded spell are double strike (because the free cast triggers on combat damage)

I see... ok, I will totally remove that then. Good catch RiViN159!!

What about Sands of Delirium over Codex Shredder ?

April 26, 2013 8:55 a.m.

willsm87 says... #9

@shmegegge I used to run Sands of Delirium but I switched to Codex Shredder because I can use it to get a card back. So if they kill off something that I want, or if I really wanna cast a spell again, I can bring it back from my graveyard to my hand.

What are your thoughts on Breaking / Entering and Far / Away ? Seems to me like Breaking would be a nice replacement for Mind Sculpt , 1 more card milled for BU instead of 1U. Far / Away could maybe take Cyclonic Rift and Victim of Night for 3 slots and give you some real nice tools for spot removals. Remember, fuse cards resolve left to right so you can remove a creature from play before the sacrifice is chosen - options, I like them.

How is Fog Bank for you? A lot of people swear by it for reach/prevent combat damage and others scoff at it as 0/2 is incredibly weak to removal.

Of your 4 win-cons you mention which do you see yourself getting off most frequently?

@alulien I do like Breaking but I dont think I will use it to replace Mind Sculpt I like only needing 1 color for the card instead of BU. I do like the idea of Far / Away , I will be adding it to this deck.

I'm going to the pre-release tonight and I picked Dimir as my guild, hopefully I will pull something good.

As far as Fog Bank I used to run 4x of it, but I dropped it down to 2x. This wasnt because I dont like the card, but I felt 4 was overkill on it haha. I personally love this card... everytime I play it, you can just see the person getting annoyed. It's a great shield to buy time while you mill.

As far as my win-cons I actually see myself using more Essence Harvest now lately. I will get out a Consuming Aberration then next turn (if they don't remove it) drop Essence Harvest for a game ender.

Good point on the mana cost for Breaking the trade-off for 1 more card milled but more difficult to cast doesn't seem worth it.

Fog Bank makes sense - better to have someone drop removal on it rather than your Aberration later. And at the very least he's a great blocker while he's around.

With 22 land do you see Aberration come out on t5/6 pretty consistently or is he a little later?

Its all just luck of the draw really, I always hope for a hand with at least a blue or black mana at the start, or even better one of the dual mana cards. But, usually by turn 5/6 assuming I wasnt mana starved, I can either have out the Consuming Aberration or Jace, Memory Adept . Usually by this time, they have a Wight of Precinct Six to worry about already as well.

What's your tactic against decks that run few creatures? Board out the Wight of Precinct Six for Nightveil Specter ?

April 26, 2013 1:58 p.m.

willsm87 says... #15

Yep, and then start playing their own cards against them haha

April 26, 2013 2 p.m.

stereoystereo says... #16

Another way you could win big is if you replace 1x Wight of Precinct Six and 1x Psychic Strike with Dying Wish . That way, you attach Dying Wish to your Consuming Aberration and then use Victim of Night or Murder on your Consuming Aberration making you hit him big for the win. But if by any means your opponent has a large amount of life, at least you gain whatever it was that your opponent had lost.

@Carpediem That card is extremely epic. I pulled 2 Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker in my pre-release packs. I will be updated my deck list to include him shortly.

Pilfered Plans might be a good addition to keep your hand full. It looks like you can accommodated a 3 drop in your curve.

April 29, 2013 11:44 a.m.

willsm87 says... #22

@apt142 I might just do that. It would be a good way to help me get more cards, while milling them at the same time. Not really sure what I would take out for the Pilfered Plans though.

@Exzist I'm not a van of Breaking / Entering it requires a U and B, and only mills 1 card more than Mind Sculpt . Not sure if I could justify using it, unless I swapped it for like Mind Grind . What are your thoughts on that?

April 29, 2013 2:27 p.m.

alulien says... #25

Breaking / Entering would only be good from a mill perspective if you wanted to be able to hit yourself or opponent - i.e. Runechanter's Pike on a Jace's Phantasm you might want to hit them to proc Jace or hit yourself to dump cantrips for Pike. If you're never going to be milling yourself why would you make it more difficult to cast? Mind Sculpt and Breaking / Entering are both sorceries so there's no difference there. I personally would rather mill 1 less for an easier cast, but that's just me.

Mind Grind can be a really great bomb, situationally so. If you're playing vs. an Esper or Grixis deck with 25 lands it might not be so hot, but a 20 land low cmc deck is going to feel the pain. Increasing Confusion would be a decent alternative as you have a bit more control how many cards are milled + the flashback is really mean. Gaining card advantage via Pilfered Plans with a minor mill might further your overall win cons better than a straight up mill... you know your deck best, though.
