I like that Duskmantle Guildmage along with Jace, Memory Adept can smack the opponent for 10 life.

jryan317 if play a the turn after you place Jace, Memory Adept you can spend all 6 and do the ability twice on Duskmantle Guildmage and smack them for 20 with the mill 10.

:)

Maybe Death's Approach in favor of Victim of Night ? Also maybe 2 more Guildmages, it can get ridiculous with either Mirko, or Jace, making for yet another wincon. Perhaps for your maybes you could consider Illusionist's Bracers , to stick on Mirko or the Aberration.

Nice, I hadn't thought about Illusionist's Bracers with Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker , that would just be nuts.

you sould find a place for Codex Shredder . its a good constant mill, and its sac ability is a good last minute revival.

Pyroshade says... #6

Illusionist's Bracers only works on activated abilities, not triggered abbilities or mana abilities, so it won't work on any thing like Consuming Aberration (triggered) or Llanowar Elves (mana) but does work with say Bane Alley Broker or Duskmantle Guildmage

I agree with bluestripewho, Codex Shredder is a very good utility mill card, and for turn one can mill as long as it lives for just cmc 1

did you lose bad with a game with your last build? I have a build that is straight mill and it did so awesome against control and midrange decks but so badly with creature-heavy and blitz decks so I was thinking your previous build with a little tweak can pretty much handle a lot more situations than a straight mill build can. A straight mill can easily be pummeled to death quickly by creatures or sideboarded by Elixir of Immortality , Psychic Spiral and Witchbane Orb

It wasn't that I lost bad as much as it was just inconsistent. I would usually go 2-2 and I just wanted to see if this was any better. :)

I'm assuming you chose Mind Grind over Increasing Confusion ?

If you're going for straight mill why not run Devour Flesh over Murder for earlier, cheaper destroy (albeit sacrifice and not destroy target) or Far / Away to retain bounce, add optional destroy, or fuse for more midrange? Devour Flesh is great if you're not going for the straight kill, because who cares how much life you have if your library is gone!

Have you looked at Increasing Confusion ?

valamar says... #14

why did you drop Consuming Aberration ? Even with pit going for the mill/kill he can be a big brickwall with a mill effect of casting cards instead of Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker damage grind.

IM going to consider making or buying a black and blue deck. This is the one id go for.

First and foremost, Codex Shredder is bad and I do mean bad. It is so bad that people don't even play it in limited. Just because it mills does not make it a good mill card and you only have 2 so stacking Codex Shredders STILL does next to nothing (and no, this is not an excuse to run 2 more).

You also don't want Mind Grind either. Because Blue/Black alone are beyond piss poor at control right now, you cannot stall the game long enough for Mind Grind's X cost to be a substantial number.

If anything, your deck looks like it's trying to mill out the opponent as fast as possible with all the mill instants and sorceries in the deck. Because of that, what you DO need is Snapcaster Mage . He flashes back all those cards so that, hopefully, you'll mill your opponent out faster than they can get a board presence.

@formortiis mind grind for 4-5 is amazing. and thats not hard to get to.

June 21, 2013 12:46 a.m.

Formortiis says... #18

That's only true if you're playing against a bad deck. Against an aggro deck, you'll be too busy trying to stall the game wishing that Mind Grind was a removal spell instead.

As for the matchup against control, I have only 3 word for you: Syncopate for one.

Isochron Sceptor + any 1-2 drop spell = winning.

wwhitegoldd says... #20

actually Isochron Scepter only works with instants.

willsm87 says... #21

I think I'm going to drop the 2 Codex Shredder for Snapcaster Mage I'm also looking at Far / Away I like the way it looks. As for Isochron Scepter it isn't standard, so it wont be finding its way into this deck... I do love that card however.

Keep the consuming aberration. and try some rogues passage !5 Wins games . Or even essence harvest . Insta death ! and maybe consider tamiyo moon sage and fog banks for extra stall. They are right about the mind grind and shredder. Side the grinds but no shredder . Sorry if I sound bossy :P just my suggestions

June 24, 2013 12:53 a.m.

Formortiis says... #24

Passages and Harvests are a bad idea. You're trying to mill your opponent, not damage them. Don't split your resources between two strategies that don't interact with each other.

June 24, 2013 1:25 a.m.

droslag says... #25

The rogues passage is just a land, I mean its always an option. The aberration is good yway b/c it mills opponent still and its syrtrong
