Love this deck. But I am bias to mill decks. Mindcrank and Glimpse the Unthinkable are always suggestions, but you probably already knew. Other then that, I cant wait to get that new god card.

Dr_Plops They are both really nice cards, but I need stuff that's in standard so I can run this for Game Day.

First, I'd consider sideboarding some cards and adding more copies of others to the mainboard. I'd sideboard Wight of Precinct Six , Death's Approach , and Nighthowler and add more copies of Nightveil Specter and Tome Scour , because it's not always a guarantee that your opponent's deck will have that many creatures in it.

Also, if you're running Duskmantle Guildmage , I'd definitely consider Breaking . Late game, when you have six mana to spare for Duskmantle's effect, Tome Scour and Breaking , it'll do 13 damage. GG.

Usually you want your sideboard to be able to deal with weaknesses your deck has against other decks. Usually Mill decks want to run more counter spells and kill spells. I think some of the new board wipes from born of the gods, and kill spells like Doomblade or Hero's Downfall would be good additions to your mainboard or sideboard to help deal with those quicker decks.

If you are running Phenax, God of Deception , you might as well run Hover Barrier as it shuts down opposing aggro. I would also suggest upping the count of Breaking / Entering to 4 and getting some instant speed removal a la Doom Blade , Hero's Downfall , or Devour Flesh . The last one is really good because you don't care about their life total, just how many cards in their library.

I agree with kintighd, you're gonna want some more counter or kill spells. With your land base as big as it, you probably don't need the Dimir Keyrune s in your deck. I'd suggest some counters like Dissolve or even Psychic Strike . Far / Away is an amazing spell all around and is pretty a must in any Dimir deck.

I tried playing mill recently, and it's tricky, but you can make it work with the right spells. Good luck with your Game Day!

Honestly I think you have a good amount of wasted space in your deck. If its a true milling deck, it tries to include too much aggro and loses a lot of focus. IMO your best bet at making a mill deck with the new Born of the Gods cards will be to take advantage of Phenax, God of Deception (run 4 of these), Jace, Memory Adept and Doorkeeper as your hard hitting mill cards and work around having a defenders deck, which works great with Phenax. If you needed a late game beater, you hopefully have Phenax as a creature to use as a beater.

Examples of great defender cards that should work with Phenax and Doorkeeper are Wall of Frost , Returned Phalanx , Hover Barrier . Nightveil Specter and Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker are still great for your deck, but the rest of your creatures aren't good to be honest. They are over-priced (Balustrade Spy -- which relies on luck as well to hopefully be effective, not good for consistency) or not a good fit for a real mill deck.

Regarding your spells, I would include Chronic Flooding to help with devotion for Phenax and I can see it adding up if you get it out early but not entirely necessary if you manage to place in enough creatures in deck. 4 copies of Tome Scour and Breaking / Entering is a must since they are the cheapest and most immediately effective mill cards in game. I would choose between 2 copies of Mind Grind or Traumatize but I don't feel you need both in deck since they fill a late game capacity, I imagine Mind Grind might be the more consistent card and also variable, not tied to 5 mana. And then using 4 to 6 cards for limited Control of the board/game probably counter spells or discard spells (Thoughtseize might work out great).

This might be a huge butcher on the deck but overall idea that I'm trying to get at is to focus your deck and cut the cards that don't fit the theme of your primary win strategy i.e. Milling and keep everything else at a minimum i.e. aggro cards and control cards. Try to get the most bang for your buck on every card slot.

Forgot to say you probably should definitely add Siren of the Silent Song from BNG because its a permanent that has a discard effect which is important because millings big weakness is that milling decks does not affect board state anywhere, its purely a win condition effect so you need things to make up for it i.e. discard effects etc. This is a great way to do that and try to equalize the board while your spending resources on milling.

Another consideration to use to control aggro would Shipwreck Singer which can potentially be later used with Phenax and counts for 2 devotion.

I'd drop the Balustrade Spy and Deathcult Rogue, if you're not running anything like Hands of Binding or Hidden Strings . Duskmantle Guildmage works great in conjunction with Phenax and Jace, so maybe add two and drop the two Diabolics Tutor, but definitely add two more Phenax. Your land is pretty perfect, so maybe drop the Keyrunes in favor of Psychic Strike , or some other counter/kill spell. Definitely do the same thing for Grisly Spectacle.

This deck is looking really good, I'm glad I've been a help to you. :)

I would sideboard Crypt Incursion s for aggro decks, they just might let you live long enough to win.
