Sideboard

Maybeboard

*This is the original description. You can see my modifications in the updates section.

I suppose the idea is pretty obvious from the name of the deck. I was a player for many years, but stopped twice for prolonged periods. The cards I use in the Pauper format reflect this, I think.... Anyway, I tried to put together a deck that can adequately mill the heck out of an opponent and still defend itself, which is inherently the weakness of mill decks.

The Mill:One playing this deck should attempt to get unblockable creatures with the cipher cards encoded on them attacking and several defenders out, including a doorkeeper. Later in the game, other than the constant pinging from the cipher, there should be an accumulation of mill from the doorkeeper. Dreadwaters can particularly hurt late in the game as well.

The Control:I have a few counter-style spells, but avoided actually using counterspells for the following reasons. I like condescend for the scry 2 ability, and its speeding along of deck streamlining. Hidden strings and tidewater minion allow lands to be tapped multiple times later in the game which speeds along the doorkeepers. Grisly Spectacle doesn't stop at black creatures, but does balk at artifact creatures, which is why I maybed murder, but would also accept making a sideboard including murder and boomerang. All that, and the transmute cards allow searching if you do not require the actual card, for whatever reasons. If there was no need of the deathcult rogue b/c the opponent actually used rogues, I suppose alternatives could be sideboarded. I think there should also be more creatures with defended sideboarded, but I haven't completely decided which, yet. I think probably more tidewater minions, at least.

I would appreciate any comments that you have to give, as I am always learning. Especially with the long break between Ravnica and Return to Ravnica (which is both ironic and true). Thanks!

Updates Add

I only get to play pauper rarely, and if I think that the opposing player is playing something either super fast or hyper-competitive, I play golgari dredge. That said, this is still my first pauper baby, and I still tool it occasionally. Enjoy the changes! I've mostly tooled the SB. I cut two Diabolic Edicts for two Echoing Decays, which hit delvers hard. I also swapped two forsees mainboard for two Treasure Cruises. I further cut something for a Snuff Out in the SB. I forgot what, exactly. It's been a while since I actually updated the site with the changes I've been making.

My golgari pauper deck is here: pauper-golgari-cycling-reanimator
