Sideboard

Playtesting help needed & ideas wanted please!

This is a fairly effective Standard mill deck around the oft-insane amounts of mill through Phenax, God of Deception + Triton Tactics .

Surround yourself with a fence-line of Walls. When the Phenax + Triton hits it usually ends the game in one or two turns. Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is a great turn 3 drop against most opponents. Where it fails it gets sided out for game 2. Speaking of game 2 Ugin, the Spirit Dragon typically comes in as a wonderful alternate win con on his own, because some opponents will be smart enough to disrupt the phenax combo.

A note on the use of Triton Tactics - by TheHroth : Its better to not let the first mill resolve until Triton Tactics after has.

Say you have 2 Disowned Ancestors that you haven't outlasted. Together, they can mill for x=8. If you mill, then Triton Tactics, then mill again, you'll get x+(x+6)=22.

If you tap, Triton Tactics, then tap again, and let both mills resolve after Triton Tactics, you'll mill (x+6)+(x+6)=28.

Because the milling ability check for the creatures toughness as it resolves, waiting to let the mill resolve after Triton Tactics will net more cards in the opponents yard.

Sideboard has been very difficult to choose, but generally a selection of counterspells and removal seems good.

Considering Negate in mainboard - creatures aren't really scary because of the walls, but non-creature spells can shut me down quickly.

Thoughts and suggestions are very welcome. Please playtest and let me know if there's anything that pops out as removable... thanks!

And if you like it please +1 :-)

Thanks to shepherdofire's Why are you so scared of defenders? for inspiration!

After a pretty dismal showing at FNM using the control-heavy version of this deck I have decided to go back to creature-heavy, but with a whole new draw engine. I lost to stormbreaths and mantis riders that got out around my control (probably cuze they had 4-ofs). I lost to that damn Temur Ascendancy "infinite mana" combo crap (dumped into Crater's Claws and then a monstrous Plucky). I lost to a silly azorius heroic deck. The losses were all due to 1 of 2 reasons: (a) creatures outnumbered my control cards, and (b) I had control but didn't get my win con, then lost control.

One thing to take away - Dig Through Time + Monastery Siege . The siege feeds the dig and that's my new draw engine.

Mainboard Changes include:

Accepting advice and shifting land base:
-2 Mana Confluence
-3 Swamp
+1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
+1 Radiant Fountain
+2 Dismal Backwater

Going with different draw engine, a Slumgar in MB... and for those pesky Riders & Stormbreaths I'll restock the Flock to block.
-3 Thoughtseize
-2 Dissolve
-2 Aetherspouts
-2 Wall of Frost
+1 Monastery Siege
+4 Monastery Flock
+1 Silumgar, the Drifting Death
+3 Bile Blight
