Thanks for the comment and the +1! You're right, this deck has taken a lot of time to make into what it is now. I lost a lot of stuff when RTR block rotated out, but I think the deck is even stronger now than it was then. I don't have the deck 100% built for real yet (my Courser of Kruphix are still proxied) but I test it with my friends a lot at schol during our breaks against a huge range of decks, from Tier 1 Abzan Midrange and Jeskai Tempo, to homebrewed Altar of the Brood milling mirror matches.
It is a total blast to play, and I can't wait to get my Courser of Kruphix and try this version at FNM.
Before rotation, I was playing Consuming Aberration , much to my delight, but not so much to others. He's moved into my Phenax EDH deck now, which I build simply because I love Phenax so much. Sidebar, Eater of the Dead is totally ridonkulous with Phenax.

Nice deck, +1 from me. I love Mill decks and, similarly to you, had a great one before rotation featuring Consuming Aberration. Then once I saw that the Delve mechanic was coming back I worried the milling would actually help my opponent to win! Now that I've seen that the meta is mostly aggressive decks featuring Rabblemaster and either Jeskai or Abzan I've decided to give Mill another go but I'm currently sticking to just Black and Blue.
Could you explain the benefits of including Green in your deck and also explain why you don't run Villainous Wealth ? It seems to me if you're gonna have Green it would be worth having at least one as a may to get that last big Mill, as well as the added bonus of casting a bunch of their cards for free.

@ALX
Thanks for the comment! I'm playing green here mostly to speed up my game. Between Sylvan Caryatid , Courser of Kruphix , and Kiora's Follower , the amount of mana I can get in the early game is increased, and so I can power out Phenax, God of Deception sooner than would normally be allowed, and mill faster.
Kiora's Follower also has a special role here as one of the MVP's of the deck: letting me untap my creatures to mill again closes the game out ridiculously fast.
I played Villainous Wealth here before, but it was often dead. Spending 8 mana on an x=5 and hitting Elspeth, Sun's Champion was a situation happening far too often (not always with Elspeth, but with x being lower than needed). Perhaps I was just casting it too early, but it was always a bit "meh" when I played it, so I ended up removing it and now the deck is more consistent and streamlined without it. I'd rather play removal spells instead.
If someone has a good enough argument and convinces me to put it back in, I will gladly do so. I have two foil ones begging to get played again.

Thank you for explaining your choices, you've obviously put a lot of thought into your deck and I really appreciate your perspective. I'd love you to tell me your thoughts on my versions, I have the Black Blue one I already mentioned and I'm also still considering a Sultai version featuring mana dorks and Prophet of Kruphix because I love that card and I feel like the combo of Prophet + Kruphix, God of Horizons with dorks should be quite powerfull ramp to fuel a massive Villainous Wealth
Black Blue - Nightmare Reaper
Sultai - Dreamstealer
I should also thank you, since both these decks are influenced by yours :)

@ALX
I'm honoured! I'll gladly take a look at your decks. :)

Why'd you end up removing Prophet of Kruphix? Seems like an auto-include here.
November 20, 2014 12:26 a.m.
Prophet of Kruphix was simply too slow for the deck. She was great to have sometimes though, and occasionally I wouldn't have won the game without her due to the late game explosiveness she offers with Phenax. I'll definitely think about putting her back in!

An additional question. Have you built this deck and tested it yet? If so, how has it done? I'm really curious because I'm definitely considering running this at my FNM since I have most of the cards.
November 20, 2014 12:46 a.m.
Except for Courser of Kruphix, I have all the cards. I have them proxied.
Unfortunately that means I have no results of playing the deck at FNM. I have played it on Cockatrice though.
Because the current meta is so heavy on midrange decks, the matchup against a lot is quite good. I always laugh when Abzan decks curve from Siege Rhino into Sorin, Solemn Visitor. Have fun attacking into my Wall of Frost.
Lots of fliers is the biggest weakness. I've thought about something like Monastery Flock in the side but I think more kill spells would be better.
November 20, 2014 6:28 a.m.
Maybe just straight up Plummet in the side might be better, but you do already run Downfall and tons of other removal between your main and side so maybe not. I'd also be very wary of exile effects, two relevant counterspells in the side seems like too little imho. As of the Prophet's, maybe cut two Bile Blight for a two'of.
November 20, 2014 4:59 p.m.
Plummet is a good card, but too situational because it only hits fliers. I'd rather have Murderous Cut, which I've been thinking of adding anyway. I think I'd need more fetchlands to help fuel my delve cards if I add it though.
I'll try 1 Prophet of Kruphix back in the main and 1 in the side. Cutting Bile Blight seems good. There is less stuff that it is good against in the new meta (Pack Rat cough cough). lol
November 20, 2014 6 p.m.
Yeah Bile Blight pretty much just hits Rabble goblins and Empty the Pits/Sidisi, Brood Tyrant zombies. I agree with the removal though. Plus fetches are just too good on their own.
November 20, 2014 6:11 p.m.
And Mantis Rider and Seeker of the Way and Fleecemane Lion and a ton of other stuff.
November 20, 2014 6:20 p.m.
Well, I was mostly referring to the things that usually come in exceptionally large numbers.
November 20, 2014 6:44 p.m.
Fair enough, lol. I do have Drown in Sorrow for all those too though. :)

This deck looks AWESOME. i honestly cant think of anything to add, its just a really solid deck. One of my first decks I ever made was a mill deck and its always been a favorite for me. seeing it become a viable option in standard, and with such strength too, makes me pretty excited. Kudos to you my friend!
November 20, 2014 11:19 p.m.
Thanks a lot man! I really need to get my Courser of Kruphix so I can bring this to FNM, but playing with proxies as well as on Cockatrice has shown that the deck is really solid, and does work well.

Windstorm is my favorite flier hate. Would definitely consider it if flying is an issue.
January 4, 2015 11:43 a.m.
I've thought about that a lot, and I guess it really is the best option.
January 4, 2015 3:23 p.m.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what could be added here?? I haven't played the deck in ages, but would love to pick it up again!
April 3, 2015 3:47 p.m.
TheHroth, the New Sidisi seems like a really easy addition. It finds Phenax when you need, can sac useless defenders, and has a big butt herself. I'd be hard pressed to find a reason not to play it.

Wow. Really good job on this one. +1 for certain. You can tell a lot of consideration has gone into each card here to make this deck as precise as possible. It looks like a blast to play, and hell to play against. I'd love to run this if I only had all the cards here...
