Cancel for Dissolve or Psychic Strike , Divination for Pilfered Plans . Mortus Strider for Omenspeaker . More Consuming Aberration . Psychic Spiral is pretty weak. That's all really cheap to replace.

Also, Breaking , and a sideboard.

I was might try running Pilfered Plans instead of Divination, my Mortus Strider is only filler for more Consuming Aberration and Wight of Precinct Six . Unfortunately I haven't really opened any Theros packs yet. So my Theros selection is rather limited. I like Psychic Spiral it reloads my deck, and gives me all my counter spells and kill spells back. then mills them for the amount. I could see it being a rather slow five drop, but I threw it in because of the Instant speed. If I remove it I would probably throw in Mirko..

Placed Fourth this Friday at FNM. With only three Changes. At the time I was running two Consuming Aberration and one Rise of the Dark Realms I don't remember what I took out, but it worked. I also had taken out Divination for Pilfered Plans .

Take out rise of the dark realms and liliana for the aberration and land.

I kind of like having both of them Liliana of Dark Realms gives me that very nice emblem that makes one swamp tap for four, which would mean only one swamp per casting of Grisly Spectacle. Which is very very nice. Rise of the Dark Realms is a nice Dooms Day button, yeah, sure my Wights go back down to 1/1, but by the time I cast it my Aberrations should be ridiculously big already, that plus whatever other creatures I gain from my opponent will very much so discourage them from attacking me. It can also be used as a troll stomp technique which is nice too.

Think of it in terms of opportunity cost. Why run Grisly Spectacle when Hero's Downfall exists? Why run cancel when Psychic Strike and Dissolve are standard? You should ask yourself what you are missing out on by running those two cards with a neat interaction. By the time you can cast Rise of the Dark Realms , Mind Grind mills 7 lands. Traumatize could drop half their deck well before that. Breaking / Entering could have been milling their decks since early game. With only 22 lands, it's unlikely you'll get to those high drops. Notice you have 9 cards that have a CMC of 5 or above. You see green decks with a bunch of ramp run figures like that. This deck could easily become worthy of casual play, but as it stands, you're gonna have problems hitting that 5 mana you need to play Consuming Aberration or Jace, Memory Adept to close out games.

I play a fairly similar deck I like to call Synthetic Mind Decay. It's a bit more expensive, but can be made fairly affordable just by taking out some of the most expensive cards and some non-basic lands. Check it out for some inspiration.

Grisly Spectacle Mills for power, it's a bit expensive, and since I don't have access to Hero's Downfall I am running the spectacle. I run four Psychic Strike s and I run Cancel because I don't have access to Dissolve. If I get rid of Rise of the Dark Realms I would probably throw the other Consuming in, but Liliana is there to serve as a place holder for Ashiok. From what I've read on Traumatize if you run Breaking , Tome Scour , and Jace You should have enough milling power that it would seem a bit unnecessary, and a bit slow. I saw that you run only two Tome Scour s, why is that? It's a one drop for mill for five. Question, do you mind if I add you as a friend? You, from what I've read, seem very knowledgeable with Mill, and I am actually trying to make some history. I am planning on taking Mill to Pro Tour, and shooting for the stars. (I know I can't achieve that now, but it's coming).

By all means. The reason I run 2 Tome Scour in my deck is because the primary objective isn't to mill you out. If I were to increase the count of milling cards, I'd have to get rid of some of the control. Notice I run a total of 17 cards dedicated to control. The rest is reserved for just enough Mill to have Consuming Aberration hit the field outside of burn range. If I get to mill for extra, I'm happy. I'm more concerned with controlling the board than milling my opponent during the first 10 turns of the game. After that, I can mill by controlling, drop a Jace, Memory Adept , or stall.

The reason I don't like Grisly Spectacle is that it has a cost of BB, 2C. That high and has two dedicated to black. It's unlikely you get to land it on something early in the game. Sure, it has the opportunity to get rid of a Kalonian Hydra and mill for 8 on it's first turn, but it's better to have more reliable and cheaper ways to remove things.

I actually dislike Traumatize myself. In order for you to draw into it regularly, you need to run several copies of it. Each additional copy mills for less. I prefer Mind Grind becasue it can mill for similar amounts and can close out games, whereas the power of Traumatize diminishes the longer the game goes on.

Also, milling is a pretty weak deck archetype. My deck is doing wonders for me at local events and casuals, but it's not competitively viable. If you wanted to run a similar archetype, B/U control is strong. Cards like Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver , AEtherling , Jace, Architect of Thought and others are much more reliable. The cost of those decks is quite high though.

I had questions about a Side Board. I threw one together, but I am not going to post it until after FNM, to see how it runs. I was wondering should I opt in for more control cards or should I go for something else?

You're going to need answers for creatures your spot removal can't target. Things like Dark Betrayal can be swapped in. Glaring Spotlight , Pithing Needle , Cyclonic Rift , Ratchet Bomb , and others are pretty standard for sideboards.

Ok, I just added in a Sideboard, with what I got to work with. Last Friday, layers there g my fiance and I got a Fat Pack, and to my surprise I was able to pull a Ratchet Bomb from it, and one of the players there gave me one on a trade. I am not entirely sure on the Claustrophobia It's helped out in the past when I tried U/W Control (I didn't like as much as Milling), but like I said, I am not entirely sure how it'll do, We do have plans on getting a Theros Fat Pack, this next Friday. I am hoping for some Scrying Lands and Hero's Downfall

What do you think about Quicken ? I think it's a more effective one drop than Tome Scour, that draw is quite a put-ahead

Quicken doesn't give you draw power. You expend a card to draw one. It's real use comes in it's ability to play sorceries on your opponents turn. Things like Pilfered Plans are much easier to cast. Overall, I dislike it for mill decks.
