I’m hoping to get a video of this deck up as well in the future.
Sorry to double post, but have you considered some more things to give Flash to sorceries, so Birthing Pod can be activated on your opponents turns? I see you already have Alchemist's Refuge, some others would be Vedalken Orrery, Leyline of Anticipation, and Hypersonic Dragon (though the latter is admittedly not as good as the former two.) This would empower creatures like Mystic Snake, Glen Elendra Archmage, Venser, Shaper Savant, etc. Would be great additions to the toolbox, as any 3 CMC creature could be sac'd to counter a spell.

Birthing pods ability will still be only sorcery speed with supersonic dragon and cards like it. Those abilities only effect spells, not abilities. It would be awesome though if it did work like that!
And yes Muldrotha is pretty insane. I just love mimeoplasms natural graveyard hate.
Thanks for the comments :)

Looks like you're right

6/15/2010: This applies only to casting spells. It does not, for example, change when you may activate abilities that can only be activated "any time you could cast a sorcery".
That's unfortunate, but fun deck either way!

Thoughts on the new cards like Prime Speaker Vannifar, Frilled Mystic, Wilderness Reclamation, etc?

And what do you think of a Mnemonic Betrayal package in your meta? Cards like Seeds of Innocence, Rampage of the Clans, Pernicious Deed lets you chain together your opponent's positive mana resources.

I am really pumped for Prime Speaker Vannifar. With Birthing pod being one of the best cards in the deck it is nice to have a pseudo second copy that I can reanimate if it gets destroyed. Frilled Mystic mana cost is somewhat awkward and is an effect that I dont need multiples of I feel. Wilderness Reclamation would be better in a more heavy instant speed deck and also once I read it again and it only untaps on your end step I realized I wouldn't waste a slot in the deck for the effect because Seedborn muse is better and easier to recur if destroyed.
Mnemonic Betrayal I could see sometimes being amazing rebuying a bunch of stuff, but most the time probably not going to do a whole lot. I like my cards to always be live and consistent. It is a really neat card though.

Can you please make a list of what your "too good" pile is? Thanks!
May 13, 2019 12:58 a.m.
This list is of cards that I find not to fun to play against and makes the games too easy for me or repetitive feel bads for my opponent
To good/mean:
Deadeye navigator - This one is known to be a busted card and I have never even tried it in my deck because I know with all the ETBs it would get oppressive pretty fast.
Razaketh - In my opinion this demon is way way better than griselbrand. Griselbrand can draw a lot of cards. But once Razaketh hits the field and you have 2-3 other creatures, it’s over. You don’t actually draw cards with it but you really have 100% of your deck in you hand with it out of the field because of the tutoring. I played this cards for a while and I then I took it out because I never lost a game when this hit the field.
Omniscience - With all the tutors this is usually instant combo win. The deck already does loops but the mana restrictions just make the loops fair. When you don’t have to pay mana they become combos.
Time warp/extra turn spells that doesn’t exile themselves - I have been playing with timestream navigator and I have been pretty easily going infinite turns when I untap with it because this deck is so good at recursion. So I think that ones is going to be taken out soon too. Also timewarp is pretty easy to go infinite with as well.
Spike weaver - Unbeatable vs fair decks. The ability to clone and reanimate this is too easy to never be attacked again.
Gilded drake - I play this right now. People just get so salty because of it. May be taking a break from it soon.
Craterhoof behemoth - this is a one card combo almost in my eyes. It’s way to easy to win with. Especially in this deck. Tutor it up whenever you are ready to kill the table.
Tidespout tyrant - I put this in my deck at one thinking it would be fun to use it for value bouncing my own creatures. But it’s too easy to go infinite with it with sol ring and mana crypt.
Sorin markov - I have had the go to ten minus happen to me before and it just doesn’t seem fair to deal 30 damage for 6 mana.
Consecrated Sphinx - this is just way to hard to come back from if you don’t answer it right away. Some decks ways of digging for answers is drawing cards. So that just further makes you fall behind. Never a good experience playing against it.
And I don’t try to play any cards that are specifically for combos

What are your thoughts on efficient ramp like mana crypt or mana drain?
May 16, 2019 5:40 p.m.
I think it just depends on what you are doing with your fast mana. If you make a deck that is ramping to combo as fast as possible then probably too powerful. If your playgroup is about combos then that’s fine. But my deck doesn’t really have easy button win conditions. So I play mana crypt because I may get ahead but I’m not gonna win out of no where. Usually if a player breaks ahead with fast ramp the table teams up on that player anyways. Your thoughts?
May 16, 2019 5:45 p.m.
I think you make a good point. The problem I find with a good sultai deck is that it wants to combo win bad. My challenge is trying to find a 75% build that still does broken overpowered things while not playing a infinite to do it. I think your build does that pretty well,I just hate to see this deck neutered and my version will most likely incorporate a cEDH shell without quick combo.
May 16, 2019 6:10 p.m.
How well does this type of deck protect your planeswalkers?
May 16, 2019 6:16 p.m.
Yeah if I wanted I could make my deck very competitive and find a few combos to throw in it. It is hard to win an edh game without combo and a lot of my play group is going that route and adding combos to their decks. This deck wins with card advantage and building a really strong board that will eventually take down a player at a time. And then finding ways to protect your board. But you have to be very thoughtful with your tutors to navigate your victorys. Especially against decks that have combos in them. You want tutors to start a chain that leads to more value over time. Not one shots like tutoring for a removal spell. Finding the lines of “oh I can tutor for birthing pod that then could sac my 4 drop to go into sidisi to find me the removal spell” is an example of finding the most value as possible with each tutor.
You have to set up your walkers. Tutoring for a devastation tide on top and then dropping your walker after miracling it is great. You usually find a way to answer any threats that come at it after you do that. Jace is a powerhouse at doing that. Jace and birthing pod out at the same time is amazing.

Yeah Yarok is sick! Probably gonna be the new commander of the deck. But mimeo has been with me so long I make just put Yarok in the 99.
Also really excited for new tools like agent of treachery and scholar of the ages! Agent of treachery is probably too mean. I already get enough salt from people because of gilded drake haha

So I'm in the process of updating my Sidisi deck and thought I should mention Siren Stormtamer for graveyard protection, I just realized it completely stops Bojuka Bog , Rakdos Charm , Jund Charm , Nihil Spellbomb , Agent of Erebos , Angel of Finality , etc. And I'm noticing my deck is lackluster in the early game, so I wanted to ask you how effective Coiling Oracle , Baleful Strix and other cards like Brainstorm , Dusk Legion Zealot , Satyr Wayfinder , Stitcher's Supplier was for you?
July 1, 2019 5:15 p.m.
T12HI was brewing a Yarok Pod list with a friend and we started discussing when to fetch/use Birthing Pod. So since I was inspired by your list in the very beginning Id like to ask you this question as well:
1) How do you use Birthing Pod? When do you tutor for it?
2) When do you play it? Do you wait until it's safe to drop it or depend on ways to recur it if gets removed?
3) Do you use it mostly for value or for winning moments?

Yeah I win some games vs some players just because I’m doing things with my mana every turn. Having little creatures like oracle/strix are never bad in a game. Gives you a cantrip early helping dig for lands, chump blocks early vs aggressive decks/Voltron, also one of the main reason I run them also is for Pod fodder. Late game 2 mana is nothing to just cycle them away digging for bombs and answers. Also brainstorm is amazing and I think underrated in EDH.
- Birthing pod is kinda the secret commander of this deck. So probably I tutor for it 80% of the time the first chance I get. Unless I need to use my first tutor for cards to help set up my mana or need an emergency board wipe or something to stop a combo.
- I play Pod as soon as possible and only when I’m able to activate it the turn I play it. Never turn three unable to sac something or never when there are no creatures out. I need to at least get one activation off before opponents get a shot to kill it. I’m never too worried for it to get destroyed because the deck does a lot without it and I can witness it back later. But when the Pod gets 3-4 turns unanswered it gets so much value it’s usually game over.
- Some pod decks use pod to just combo off. This build is just to grind people out and tutor up answers. In a way it does just win the game but it’s mostly for value/answers. When I have pod out I usually can find an answer for anything on my turn with just a couple creatures out at different CMCs.

T12H Your answer has completely covered me. I think an important point is that the deck can function well without it, but goes on steroids when its out.

I recommend you to play Prime Speaker Vannifar as an extra Birthing Pod that you can use if the Pod becomes unusable. And I like the idea of use Ravenous Chupacabra as fetcheable removal thanks to the Pod.
Also I think that with all the ETB that this deck has will be fun to see Yarok, the Desecrated here ( Panharmonicon is also an option). What do you think about that?
December 6, 2019 8:53 p.m.
Vannifar is in the deck right now just haven’t updated it. But I have been taking her in and out. I don’t like to have cards in the deck that I never want to really tutor for. If I tutor for a pod effect it’s always pod because it can activate the turn I play it. After playing with vannifar I find the extra turn I have to wait to use her is really annoying. But I really like vannifar with chord of calling at EOT. She is one of the few cards that go in and out because I like shaking things up 5 cards or so at a time.
I actually have never tried chupacabra before and might be something I’ll try out. I’ve done shreikmaw because the evoke is nice. Just cut it because I kept running into black decks. The removal creature I’ve been testing out is massacre girl. I have a lot of 1 toughness creatures to start the chain and every time she hits the board she is the only creature standing, so far.
To be honest Yarok should be the commander! He is insane. Just Mimeo has been there since day one and also his natural graveyard hate is actually really good.
Thanks for the comment!

Hey there! This might be a long shot but is this deck still being played with And are there any updates? Ive gotten the need to play pod and this deck looks great!
December 28, 2019 11:26 p.m.
Thank you! Sorry for the slow response. Been busy. But yeah I still play this deck! Been playing some powered down decks recently to give my play group a break from this. But I have done some updates to the deck. A few land changes and just a few other changes. But I change it quite often a few cards here and now just because with the amount of tutors you can really keep it fresh because you find the added cards pretty easily.
Let me know if you have a questions!

Muldrotha would definitely fit this play style as a commander, as you could re-play everything you sacrifice. At the very least, he would be a solid addition to the deck if you're attached to your current commander.
