i only can suggest if you can think about throwing in Sands of Delirium and Jace's Phantasm. i'm sure a couple of quick drops won't hurt, well you anyways

Hi! I have actually made a similar deck to this. For my commander I chose Phenax, God of Deception. He combos very well with Consuming Aberration and other bigger creatures if attacking isn't viable. Also, having an indestructible commander is always nice. I was wondering what made you pick Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker over him as Commander, and to suggest Phenax, God of Deception as a regular creature.

Thanks!

@ Lord_Olga,

Thank you for the comment and upvote! Lately, I've actually been thinking about making Phenax my commander as well as adding a few other cards such as Eater of the Dead. I think the deck would be a lot more effective.

Thanks again... and I think I'll take a few ideas from your deck too!

Did anyone else even notice the Mindcrank and Duskmantle Guildmage combo?

@Arcale Yeah dude!! It's a good one!! Taking down a player in one shot like that is always fun.

Okay, so in regards to Sphinx's Tutelage, isn't it based on an old artifact that does about the same thing, which said artifact also had a "make everything one color" card to pair with? I'm no suggestion replacing it mind you, but I do wonder if you'd be able to run the redundancy of having 2 effects like that.

Also what would your thoughts be on Praetor's Grasp type effects in a mill deck? I figure they can at least be extra chances to remove "Eldrazi Titan" type effects (for lack of a better name), but should those types of "removal" even be in mill?

I think the card you were thinking about is Painter's Servant. I thought it was banned in commander. I might be wrong but I think that is why it doesn't show up.

@TheRedGoat: Sphinx's Tutelage does pair very well with Painter's Servant, which is sadly banned in commander. I've actually been thinking about removing it because it doesn't actually help me too much... most of my meta is 2- or 3-color decks so it doesn't hit much.

In regards to Praetor's Grasp I've been planning to add either it or Sadistic Sacrament and I think they are especially good sideboard options for when you know their is a "Eldrazi Titan" effect or to remove combo pieces. Otherwise they are so-so and I might run one in my mainboard just because my meta does combos.

How do you win if the opponent is running one of the eldrazi titans or Blightsteel Colossus?

@Squirrel_of_War,

Currently I have no way to get around those cards unless they are drawn by my opponent through a Windfall or similar card. However, my meta does not actually have any of the eldrazi titans or Blightsteel Colossus so I don't have to worry about it. If my meta were to include either I would most likely add Praetor's Grasp or Sadistic Sacrament.

By the way your username is one of my favorite on the site... I'm kinda jealous of it.

I guess I could have read the comments, lol. Thanks for the complement on my user name! I featured your deck last night on accident and it got 31 clicks so I figured I'd take a look at it. :)

@Squirrel_of_War,

That explains so much! I saw my deck featured and I was very confused (though delighted all the same). Thank you for (accidentally) featuring my deck and for the upvote. That is the most amount of upvotes I've gotten within a single day, 6 or 7 I think. And I don't mind answering any questions... I figure not everyone will read the comments anyways.

Thanks again - Luca

Don't really have anything to add..... I like your build. I really like that you have Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver in here, I feel like she doesn't see that much play and I like her a lot. I have been thinking about building an EDH mill deck for a while, and have a Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker sitting in my binder waiting.

@UnleashedHavok

Thanks for the comment and upvote! Mirko Vosk is pretty fun to play an I'd have to say Ashiok is a very underrated card and performs extremely well in this deck! I wish you luck with your deck!

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but if you want to be truly nasty, throw in Helm of Obedience + Leyline of the Void combo. Exile an opponents entire deck with those 2 cards out!

@budlaorf

It actually hasn't been mentioned yet, but I have considered it for a while and I probably am going to make this a more combo based deck so that would be a great addition.

Thanks for the upvote!

Also another great creature to consider, would be Nemesis of Reason. He causes them to mill 10 cards just for attacking, and he has some high toughness to survive when they do block him. Great deck though man, and good luck!

I love this deck! I found it looking for ideas to add to my Phenax deck and it looks like it came to the right place! The different commander does make the deck pretty different though. One card I would suggest is Trailblazer's Boots. It might as well just say unblockable in EDH. Hope it helps!

Aqueous Form can replace Cloak of Mists, it's cheaper and better.

You have Undead Alchemist I would definitely add Altar of the Brood it does alot of work by itself for 1 mana but combo'd with Undead Alchemist can outright win the game

@Holtzman

That is a great suggestion! I definitely will add it in there soon!

Thanks for the upvote as well!

Hiya,This deck looks sweet! I have some cards that you maybe can add too:

  1. Withered Wretch (targeted removal against graveyards shenanigans)
  2. Fatespinner (pretty good protection, nobody wants to sacrifice main phases or carddraw)
  3. Helm of Obedience + Leyline of the Void or Planar Void (Instakill)
  4. Wrexial, the Risen Deep
  5. Nemesis of Reason
  6. Riddlekeeper
  7. Szadek, Lord of Secrets
  8. Shred Memory (exiles stuff from graveyards AND can tutor up important combopieces (e.g. both pieces of the duskmantle combo)
