Darkrib16,
Thanks much, but the kudos for Harnessed Lightning + Mirrorwing Dragon properly go to jawz ... he or she was the first person I know to point that out.

Thanks for the callout. Always cool to hear.

You got me started with your cool deck idea in the first place. I ended up taking my energy brewing more into red/white. Trying to fit in the Wispweaver Angel and Aetherstorm Roc/Decoction Module combo. Double angel can blink each other infinitely while the Roc or Module add an energy with each blink. I like having Zada, Hedron Grinder as a cheaper Mirrorwing Dragon, and I like having Acrobatic Maneuver as another blink and card draw effect that can get mirrored. Combustible Gearhulk is great for blinking, and Nahiri, the Harbinger is great to fetch it or just for creature/enchantment/artifact control as needed. Consulate Surveillance with infinite energy is nearly a can't-lose lock. But the problem is that everything is so expensive.

So, if I'm reading Mirrorwing Dragon correctly, the copies target the spells controller's creatures, not Mirrorwing Dragon's controller's creatures. If I target my MD, the spell copies will target my creatures. If my opponent targets my MD, then the copies target my opponent's creatures. Am I correct? If so, that basically shuts down single creature removal against MD unless the opponent wants to wipe his own board.

Yes that is correct Nosoup4ne1.

jawz,
That sound really fun. Please let me know how it works out!

Nosoup4ne1
That's exactly right. Mirrorwing is really tough to remove.

Thanks to you both!

Well, crap, that means I'm gonna have to get some then. Great deck idea. Good luck with it. +1 from me.

Immediate random thought as soon as I saw your creature list: Perhaps Aethertorch Renegade to dome for 6, hard and fast. Depends if you're getting the energy to pull lethal with it, though... It seems faster and more consistent than Architect of the Untamed by a hair. Thoughts?

NotSquishedYet,
I hadn't really looked at Aethertorch Renegade, so maybe. In a ton of playtesting though I've never gotten even close to 8 Energy ... I'm increasingly thinking cards like that are best in a dedicated Energy deck (maybe in some Decoction Module + Whirler Virtuoso Toekn build?).

Thanks much though!

Update: Trying out Attune with Aether in place of Architect of the Untamed. Energy Ramp, Mana Ramp, and a nice curve filler? Seems decent ...

Nosoup4ne1,
Thanks so much; I really hope it works well for you, in playtesting and beyond!

Please let us know how it goes!

Everyone,
What do y'all think about Smuggler's Copter? A 3/3 Flying Looter for is of course amazing. But I'd have to find room for some 1-drop Creatures to Crew it ...

Dammit.

After reading one of your Comments I now want to "solve" Zada and Mirrorwing.

But I have to sleep.

What to do ... what to do ...

Clay - I personally liked architect of the un-tamed more because if you got off at least one harnessed lightning, you could make one or two beasts, drop another one and get even more energy. I believe it is a very under-rated card.

Argeaux,
Magic seems to always win over sleep ... :-D

But whenever you end up reading this: Was it the comment about Eldritch Evolution into Mirrorwing? If so, the shout-out for that goes to Vandyel, who was the first I ever saw to use it to accelerate Mirrorwing Dragon + Silverfur Partisan .

I love the idea of using a Lathnu Hellion that was going to have to die anyway as the sac' for Eldritch EvolutionMirrorwing Dragon ... but I'm just not sure the card's worth it (for this deck) except for that particular nut-draw ...

EchoScorch,
Yeah Architect of the Untamed is definitely a cool card, and I think it could be a key part of something like an RG Energy Ramp deck ... I just find this deck is leaning more to the Aggro side of Midrange ...

Eldritch Evolution does not target so mirrorwing wont trigger. Beautiful deck tho. Also I might consider replacing Collective Defiance, but that's just me. I might buy this.

September 20, 2016 7:15 p.m.

Clockwurk says... #17

Also I'd replace Fleetwheel Cruiser. Put in Verdurous Gearhulk??

September 20, 2016 7:16 p.m.

clayperce says... #18

Clockwurk,
Uh, yeah on Eldritch Evolution. I meant "... cast Eldritch Evolution, sac'ing a Lathnu Hellion that was going to have to die anyway to get a Mirrorwing Dragon.

Thanks much for the kudos, and if you end up testing or playing the deck PLEASE let me know how it goes.

I really love Collective Defiance ... seems there's always at least one relevant mode and often two. But if something different works better for you, go for it!

Similarly, I've found Fleetwheel Cruiser to be really strong in testing. A 5/3 with Trample and Haste for 4, that's immune to most sorcery-speed removal? It's just great. I'm not interested in Verdurous Gearhulk (you may not have noticed my comment in the Strategy and Card Choices section, under GREAT CARDS I'M NOT USING AND WHY: Superb, but the deck doesn't need more 5-drops). But again, if it works better for you, go for it!

Thanks again, and draw well!

Everyone,
Frank Karsten from ChannelFireball built some decks which may be of interest to many of you: Deck #8: Red-Green Energy Aggro and Deck #10: Red-Green Double Strike

Collective Defiance has been a staple in my local meta this past season (Seasons Past lol).

It's a brilliant card.

PhydomiR says... #21

Been play testing it a bit and it seems really solid. Been playing it fairly aggressive and it seems to pay off. Being able to attack for 9 with Fleetwheel Cruiser and Voltaic Brawler on turn four is just insane. You either kill their small creatures of take almost half their life.

September 21, 2016 3:40 p.m.

clayperce says... #22

PhydomiR,
Yeah, I've been very pleasantly surprised by how well it's playtesting so far.

and can be a bit of a struggle though ... Authority of the Consuls is especially brutal against Fleetwheel Cruiser and Lathnu Hellion :-(

Thanks much for the feedback!

I think you're on to the right idea to "Solve" Zada/Mirrorwing. I've been brewing a few different ideas and I think energy is the way to go. Harnessed Lightning has the crazy cool potential with Mirrorwing that makes deck building so much fun.

I think the lesson I learned from brewing Silverfur + Mirrorwing is that relying too much on Mirrorwing weakens the deck overall.

I think Frank Karsten might have something really scary with #10. Electrostatic Pummeler with Built to Smash or Larger Than Life is without a doubt, to me, the most lethal possible application for energy.

The solution to Zada, was to play Mirrorwing instead, I think the solution to Mirrorwing is to make a deck that can win even without Mirrorwing, but becomes overwhelmingly powerful with Mirrorwing on the field.

Ok a good sb card is Natural State. Also if Collective Defiance is good in your meta, run it.

Vandyel,
Thanks much, and I agree ... though I'm not convinced yet on Electrostatic Pummeler.
