Mizzix unleashes an array of powerful spells to rain literal hell down on your enemies. Using her genius mind, and loads of borrowed Izzet tech, she relentlessly punishes enemies until there is nothing left but ash.

Deck Engine

Mizzix of the Izmagnus is the most important card in the deck. Protect her with Lightning Greaves , Swiftfoot Boots , and/or Darksteel Plate . Jace's Sanctum can help reduce costs, but also shifts cards out of the way if necessary. The key to triggering Mizzix is casting your spells, where at least equal to the amount of the experience counters you have. To help get experience counters, Inexorable Tide will be very handy.

Notable Cards

BUYBACK! After gaining enough experience counters, all of your spells with Buyback immediately become a problem for your opponents. Scry ( Mystic Speculation ), draw ( Whispers of the Muse ), copy ( Reiterate ), and bounce ( Capsize ) for as many times as you can pay for it.

Nonburn removal: Curse of the Swine , Capsize , Cyclonic Rift , Scour from Existence

My favorite inclusions: Flame Javelin and Scour from Existence . I like them because with enough experience, they're FREE. Free is good.

Mystic Retrieval + Runic Repetition is really great! Using this combo, you can infinitely recur spells from your graveyard. First, cast Mystic Retrieval to get something back. Then, flash it back to get something else back. Cast Runic Repetition to get Mystic Retrieval back. Cast Mystic Retrieval to get Runic Repetition back. Flashback Mystic Retrieval to get something back. Cast Runic Repetition to get Mystic Retrieval back. Cast Mystic Retrieval to get Runic Repetition back. And so on and so forth.

When you want to go for a kill shot or two, make sure you have a lot of experience counters. Find an burn spell and use things like Reiterate , Mirari , Swarm Intelligence , and/or Pyromancer's Goggles to finish opponents off in a quick burst - just like a actual Izzet League Guildmage would do!

Illuminate was also counted for both even though it is possible you may not want to or may not be able to kick it for the extra draw effect. I am simply listing all total possibilities.)

Misc Notes

I don't shy away at the chance to put good counterspells in a deck, but with this particular build I wanted to avoid the "counter everything" archetype. I just want to focus on gaining card advantage, triggering Mizzix, and casting high damaging burn spells.
