I'm no expert on Mizzix but somethings I thought might be good are Hypersonic Dragon, Jace's Sanctum, Thassa, God of the Sea (and Keranos but you already have him in there), and Cryptic Command. I wish I could help you with what to take out but I just don't know. Good luck.

Thanks for the ideas Mtg_mill. I really like the sounds of Jace's Sanctum in here, good call.

Hi, im no expert on Mizzix as well but my friend owns a Mizzix deck and how he runs his deck, he just have a lot of sorceries and instants that are x cost and this will take care of mizzix experiences point. He had a great point of not putting proliferate stuff into the deck because the x cost will take care of the mizzix experiences points. So take out Inexorable Tide Steady Progress and replace them with effect that does Dictate of the Twin Gods instead so if you deal someone with a burn spell you would double that mount of damage. I saw your post about youre used to having a lot of creature and swinging them you can put Empty the Warrens and have multiple goblins due to storm. Copying effect works wonderful for mizzix as well so Howl of the Horde would be nice. Another suggestion is to take out Mizzix's Mastery if you are gonna head towards x cost soc and insts because you cant cast them because x will be zero.

If this isn't enough you can listen to command zone at youtube and they have covered mizzix and talked how they made their decks.

Brainstorm, Ponder and Preordain should be added great for early game fixing or something to get Mizzix started. Time Spiral is just OP with Mizzix if you have two or more exp counters. Walk the Aeons is generally better than Time Stretch most of the time the latter its too expensive or it becomes a win more card.

Arcane Melee is nice too even though it helps your opponents too but with all the other lower mana costs out that you have this will help you vastly more than others. Also consider Epic Experiment and Banefire

Also Rhystic Study for more draw and Dissipation Field for some more defense

Blatant Theivery is real good, especially if you get to copy it a time or two.
Windfall is good to refill you hand if need be, and is just broke if cast after Cyclonic Rift
Wheel of Fortune is another good card to refill your hand.
Bribery is also a great card for this deck.
Dominate is good as it steals a creature and is an instant that will increase your experience counters.
Twincast - as some of these spells are better if they can be copied.
Sensei's Divining Top - can go into just about any edh deck
Goblin Electromancer - lowers casting cost of most of your spells. Which does not lower the CMC of the spells.
Nivix Guildmage - copies most of your spells.

Also, try out

Charmbreaker Devils is great in a spell slinger deck

I'm a huge fan of Enter the Infinite into Inner Fire into Comet Storm. Mind's Desire, High Tide, and Time Spiral all help. If you can't afford time spiral, Time Reversal is a decent option as well.

Some truly excellent suggestions and ideas all round here gents (and possibly ladies but who are we kidding, you're all gents). Thank you!

kevzta: Very valid points regarding proliferate. I may consider hanging on to Inexorable Tide simply because of the sheer value if it's able to stick, but the other dinky proliferate spells are certainly debatable. I appreciate the tip on Mizzix's Mastery as well, great call. At first glance it seems like an auto include (on theme + that zany overload) but the lack of spell symmetry + the win-more factor...Yeah, I should probably axe it. I will absolutely check out that Command Zone vid, thanks for that.

beakedbard: Yes. To all of it. You're absolutely right, Mizzix could use a few more 1 drop staples to get the XP counter ball rolling & Time Spiral is a total no brainer, it has to go in. Nice!

_-Orvos-_: Regarding Arcane Melee, I see where you're going with that but I've never been a fan of hug effects - I'm greedy that way. Banefire is in the list already and I think it's going to be nasty. As for Epic Experiment, although it seems like a Mizzix must have, I'm plonking it in the same camp as Mizzix's Mastery in that it's a complete nonbo with spells. Rhystic Study seems like it should have a home here though...Dissipation Field makes me nervous in that it has potential to assist my opponents with all of their pesky ETB/LTB creatures. Shrug.

pskinn01: I like your style sir! All of those sounds like great fits, lots of things to consider. Man this is a tough list to hone...Exciting!

scopesightzx: I had Charmbreaker Devils in here last night but decided to remove in order to make way for more spells. Such value though, especially if I can slap some boots on them and just reap some sweet spell recursion every turn. Gah! Agonizing decisions.

rooroothepirate: You sir, you know what you're doing. Jeez that's evil, I like it!

I found Goblin Electromancer to be better than Jace's Sanctum because you can drop it a lot earlier and it doesn't have the same cmc as Mizzix. I also found Whispers of the Muse requires four counters to generally be of much use which by that point you want to be casting far better far more powerful spells. Reality Spasm acts as a second Turnabout with enough mana. Last but not least is your budget out of the range of Snapcaster Mage?

Last but not least I need to thank you for giving me the idea of Meekstone for my Mizzix deck somehow I missed that.

Thanks beakedbard, I see what you mean about Jace's Sanctum and Whispers of the Muse. I'm perhaps leaning on the experience counters a little too much, thinking of optimum scenarios. I can't make up my mind about Reality Spasm - The versatility is nice and another spell won't hurt...Hmmmm.

Snapcaster Mage is certainly a possibility. I don't currently own one but I won't rule it out!

I also play mizzix but my deck is more geared towards getting as much exp as fast as possible.

Gitaxian Probe, Gush, and Misdirection have all been great for me simply because it allows me to get experience counters the turn mizzix comes out. If you're looking for an extra turn card I would recommend Beacon of Tomorrows simply because it shuffles back in allowing it to be drawn later off a huge Blue Sun's Zenith.

As for the comparison of Jace's Sanctum or Goblin Electromancer I prefer the sanctum because it allows you to dig for what you need when chaining spells. Also I never play mizzix on 4 mana unless I have a spell I can play to begin gaining experience.

That's some good advice AdrenalineBomb, thank you. I'm not sure how I feel about the crazy anti-ramp that comes with Gush's alt casting cost, but the other 2 seem like really good fits. I've already got Beacon of Tomorrows in there and I agree about Sanctum vs Electromancer, the scry is really valuable in this deck. Cheers!

December 25, 2015 5:36 p.m.

Must've missed the beacon. The anti ramp for gush's alternate cost typically isn't to detrimental simply because mizzix ramps you so hard. Also I would recommend Dig Through Time. It's another card that allows you to up your exp count early game by delving away some junk in your graveyard. Or in the late game it's super cheap to dig for whatever you need. The final card I like is Chromatic Lantern. Having all your lands tap for whatever you need is very good especially when all you need is colored mana since your commander takes care of all the generic mana you'll ever need.

Once again, AdrenalineBomb with some good calls! I was wondering if I should bump up my rock count and I'm a huge Chromatic Lantern fan, that's a smart idea. I've been on the fence about Dig Through Time but your logic is sound sir, I mind try it in place of Mind Spring and see how it goes.

December 25, 2015 6:48 p.m.

Glad you like the suggestions. I've been playing mizzix since the precons dropped and I'm really enjoying the deck

Looks like a pretty solid build! How is it working for you?

Necrotize gave me some good advice that I'll pass to you: Replace Inexorable Tide with something else - It is rather high CMC and it does not win you the game, it just pushes you even further along, assuming you are already ahead. If you are casting it the turn after your commander, you are just wasting a turn rather than building up significant experience or card advantage. I would replace it with a draw spell. Same can be said for Jace's Sanctum.

I also had Keranos, God of Storms in my inital lineup, but I replaced him with Talrand, Sky Summoner for some added defence, in case you need to buy some time.

Cheers

Dualcaster Mage is always worth thinking about as well. Him and Rite of Replication are already something without all the other things he helps in your deck. I run him with Riptide Laboratory in mine (i do also have Archaeomancer) but those are both ones I'm just experimenting with where as Dualcaster is solid in this deck.

Forkbeard says... #20

That is a very sensible call regarding Inexorable Tide. The Command Zone guys said similar things about both cards (including Jace's Sanctum) - At first glance they look like incredible fits for Mizzix, but as you say they perhaps aren't doing enough to push toward victory, especially late game.

Talrand, Sky Summoner also seems like a wise replacement for Keranos - A fleet of chump blocking drakes may keep the aggro swarms at bay. I mainly kept Keranos in there for the instant/sorcery symmetry + he's been sitting in my binder for a quite a while and I've been itching for an excuse to slap him in a deck.

As for how it's working, I actually haven't had a chance to play it yet! I have most of the deck assembled but am still waiting on some key cards that I've ordered to arrive. That and my MTG crew is pretty busy with family holiday mayhem.

Thanks for stopping by MrHighscore, really good advice!

Thanks beakedbard. I keep going back & forth on Dualcaster Mage but I really like your suggestion of pairing it with Riptide Laboratory. I may need to give that a shot! Riptide may also come in handy as defensive utility for Mizzix, even works with fragile Talrand if I end up throwing him in here too.

If you can find room for a Lightning Bolt and Pyretic Ritual, it allows you to dig for Reiterate + Pyretic Ritual + Lighting bolt for a win condition with Firemind's Foresight

I've been debating that combo Apezap. Given what this deck is trying to do, I should probably try to fit it in here. Thanks man.

@Romer I am strongly considering her for my Mizzix deck! She could be really strong.

Cheers!
