Ha, not at all Athraithe, I appreciate the heads up. A classic case of RTFC.

Yeah, Athraithe, thanks for the knowledge ahead of time. I would have been pissed to find this out the hard way, haha.

What would you replace Mystical Tutor with? My local shop plays Dual(French) Commander so it's banned.
Thanks

Hi magicdrafna, thanks for stopping by. Either Personal Tutor or Long-Term Plans would do the trick. Good luck with your Duel build!

I was wondering if you would be willing to take a look at my deck. I modeled it after yours with some changes and the cards i owned.
Thanks

Yep, those cards could be decent in here Kessler15, cheers.

Dragonlord's Prerogative seems better to me than Jace's Ingenuity, especially with how easy it is to gather xp counters.
You might also be interested in Insidious Will as all modes are relevant.

Dragonlord's Prerogative is a little clunky but I see where you're coming from. I also quite like the look of Insidious Will. Both cards are viable and up for consideration, thanks Chandrian.

Seeing this is interesting because I just built my first deck, and it uses this commander and this general playstyle. I used about 70 of the same cards you did. I threw in Mizzix's Mastery and Epic Experiment, and even though they do limit Mizzix's abilities to some extent, I find them pretty invaluable to pulling spells I need from my graveyard. It really surprises me Sphinx-Bone Wand isn't in here, though. That wins games for me. And it's also one of my few cohesive win conditions, but I also built my deck on a pretty strict budget and had to buy every single card for it, so I cut out a lot of the more expensive cards that you have here. I might need meekstone, though...

Hi fury157. All 3 of those cards are great, however they don't lend themselves to my strategy. If I wasn't running so many spells, Mizzix's Mastery & Epic Experiment would be no brainers for sure.
There's a lot of 'when you cast a spell, do an awesome thing' cards out there and Sphinx-Bone Wand is definitely one of them, but it's so expensive to cast, slow to build up and conditional on casting spells. If I use all of my mana to cast it, odds are it will be a wasted turn due to it being removed before having a chance to add value.
The main goal of this deck is to either out-value/control the board with spells or combo out. Sphinx-Bone Wand falls into the 'good stuff' realm - I'm not saying it isn't a sweet card and that's awesome that you've had success with it, it's just not the right fit for my strat.

All reasonable explanations. I have found Mizzix's Mastery and Epic Experiment to be less helpful than I originally thought they would be, so I may end up swapping those out at some point.
And you're right, I do find sphinx-bone wand to be a little clunky just because the high mana cost, but I also have a large number of 2 and 3-drop counter spells, so as long as I have two mana open I'm usually good to play it, and then it usually builds decently for me just because I don't need a whole lot of mana for anything.Plus the classic Reiterate + any mana building spell gives infinite mana, and if you have spinx bone wand out or a tutor to get it out, that's an instant win condition. I normally don't like instant win gimmicks like that, but my playgroup has one or two of those in every deck anybody else has, so I had to throw it in just for balance, lmao.
I did notice this deck and thread is fairly old, are you still playing it? Have you changed it since the latest update?
January 13, 2018 4:18 p.m.
I played it last weekend in a 2 headed giant battle alongside a Ydris Doomsday storm deck (here's my friend's deck if you're curious: Yidris's Spell Maelstrom). We lost against 2 weenie aggro decks (Edric + Sygg), the shame haha. That loss prompted me to add a couple of rocks in place of Talrand, Sky Summoner & Insurrection.
I haven't updated this deck with any new spells from the last few sets simply because I haven't seen anything overly exciting. The only new card I'm experimenting with is Primal Amulet Flip but I haven't had a chance to see it in action yet.
January 13, 2018 4:54 p.m. Edited.
Hey Forkbeard, I finally got the Mizzix precon and am now trying to tune it a little bit (still budget though...).I was wondering if you got to use primal amulet in the meantime, and if so, if you think it is a good addition to the deck?
Oh, and any thoughts on Frantic Search?

Primal Amulet Flip is awesome! It'll never find a home in competitive brews, but I really like it. The spell discount is nice, it's super easy to flip and it turns into the best Izzet land ever. It's not an expensive card, give it a go and see what you think.
Frantic Search is really good, I should think about finding a home for it in here.

Hello!
New-ish to magic here!
I was wondering why you don't use creatures such as goblin electromancer or guttersnipe in this deck? Also, why do you not use the regular counterspells?
Thanks!
May 31, 2018 10:01 p.m.
Hi bigbuffetboy88, hope you're enjoying your new cardboard crack addiction! I tried running the little creatures that had clear Izzet spell slinging symmetry at first, but they were too squishy and were either immediately killed or simply did not add the value I thought they would. I opted to go for pure spell damage/control and play to Mizzix's cost reduction strengths and the results have been rewarding.
As for regular counterspells, it's because they're boring! Half joking, the main reason is because I'm looking to buff up the Mizzix experience counters. For example, with Mizzix + 3 XP counters out I can cast Mystic Confluence for and get another XP counter while I'm at it. Same with the casting cost counterspells - they will always net me another XP counter. We won't even get into how gross Spell Burst is with multiple XP counters on the table. Anyway, that's my logic and I'm sticking to it! That said, sometimes you just need a cheap counterspell effect to protect Mizzix and that's why I'm running Force of Will and Pact of Negation.

Hey i would like to know why you run extra turn stuffs on your deck? Cause i believe there is no ways to win when you get extra turn stuffs. Thankyou
September 6, 2018 12:51 p.m.
Hey Deepinlove17. I see where you're coming from, all of the extra turn cards are simply personal preference. Variety! Also, sometimes it takes a couple of turns to set up a win condition. Even if I don't, the extra turn(s) usually put me at a massive advantage.

Forkbeard got it! Recently i just build my mizzix deck and i build according to your decklist with a minor change. Just tested once, and its being smooth. Did this the could be on the competitive board? Once again thanks!

Hope you have fun with the deck! It definitely packs a punch but I'd say it's not quite cEDH level - too many gimmicky + personal choices in here.
