I have always loved Izzet Control. It's by far my favorite style to play. I played Izzet polymorph competitively for a year, had a competitive Niv Mizzet commander combo deck for the longest time. I really wanted to make Mizzix in my own way focusing on the aspects of the color scheme I find enjoyable. I think Mizzix's best abuse is X spells and buybacks. X Spells hold the greatest value because the CMC scales with how much you want it to, so you can consistently keep raising your experience counter total. Given that notion, ramp in Mizzix is actually a must, and as with any izzet control deck, infinite combos are part of the deal. Infinite mana = infinite damage = infinite draw = infinite everything. We start there:

COMBOS AND SYNERGIES

Reiterate + Any ritual/ramp/land untap spell is your easiest path to infinite mana, and Firemind's Foresight can get your entire combo of Brainstorm + Pyretic Ritual + Reiterate by itself. Merchant Scroll + Mystical Tutor can both get the foresight. This is our main wincon in the deck tutors win the game. In the mean time we have some wrath's board wipes targeted removal and countermagic to keep us alive. There a lots of other fun little combos in the deck as well.

Sphinx-Bone Wand + The whole deck. I've always wanted to play this so I did.

Mizzix's ability cuts the cost of flashback, buyback, any additional cost but most importantly kicker. The only way it works is with the counters though so a few proliferate spells get snuck in there for synergy.

Past in Flames gets reduced an so do the spells you flashback. Then it happens again when you flash it back. Probably the coolest synergy in the deck.

CARD CHOICESI've always been a big fan of cantrips. Included a healthy dose of those to keep cards coming and dig through to my curve.

I wanted to be heavy on counters and just enough hate to deal with early stuff well we are ramping up to our win con's and fun stuff. Some artifact hate to slow down ramp and other pesky issues.

Lot's of big draw spells and hand refillers. I want to have cards, and lot's of them. Plus each one helps me make sure I can keep hitting experience counters. I want to always have a counter/wrath/hate spell in my hand all the draw engines help me do this. Plus having most of them be X spells allows me to tweak them to my experience counters.

Permanent ramp is great, but this deck can do really will with quick jolts of mana as well. That's why i put in a variety mix of ramp.
