This is my take on the Esper gifts ungiven deck. The deck is based off of similar lists that have performed well at Grands Prix and on MODO.

While this is a control deck the only counter spells pre-sideboard are a pair of Mana Leaks. The deck packs plenty of creature removal in the forms of Path to Exile, Abrupt Decay and Maelstrom Pulse.Typically lists only have one Maelstrom Pulse but I wanted another catch all answer.

[Gifts ungiven] is the most powerful card in this deck. Once you resolve Gifts Ungiven it is hard to lose provided that you make the right piles. Quite often the key to winning is making gifts piles that will trick your opponents into giving you what you need. Some samples piles are included below:

Cheating a fatty into play.Iona, Shield of Emeria & Unburial RitesNow like many of the opponents that I've played against you may be thinking "but that's only two cards!" Yes it is only two cards, but because Gifts Ungiven specifies that the four cards must have different names you can "fail" to find the other two cards. This combo can also be done with Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite or Sun Titan.

Ripping apart your opponents hand.Life from the Loam, Raven's Crime, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and another land of your choice.

The Engineered Explosives lock.Engineered Explosives, Academy Ruins, Life from the Loam and another card of your choice.

The value giftsSun Titan, Snapcaster Mage, Gifts Ungiven, and Unburial Rites

The wipe your board giftsDamnation, Wrath of God, Supreme Verdict and Snapcaster Mage.

I'm getting tired right now, but will update this later. Also my meta is mostly aggro with a little bit of combo, there are not many control decks running around.
