This is my take on the newly resurgent "8 Racks" deck that has been surfacing in Modern. Basically it is a mono-black discard based deck. Shrieking Affliction from Return to Ravnica just recently gave us a second The Rack, making discard the strongest it has ever been.

Strategy

This creates tension for your opponent between playing threats from their hand, exposing them to your removal while putting them closer to Rack damage range, or risk having them discarded anyway. The main players for discard are Liliana of the Veil, Raven's Crime. Inquisition of Kozilek, and Thoughtseize. If the game drags on, Phyrexian Obliterator is an excellent finisher and is a power house against Zoo decks.

Some cool tricks involve using Dakmor Salvage dredge ability with Raven's Crime to lock your opponent down.

Advantages:

  • Because it is mono-black it is not susceptible to Blood Moon is a common problem in Modern metagame.
  • Very low mana curve allows you to play reactively, while pressuring your opponent's hand.
  • Lots of redundancy in removal spells. Threats can be dealt with on the board or via hand removal.
  • Very little enchantment or artifact removal options in the environment.
  • Very strong against control, or combo decks.

Feedback is greatly appreciated and will always be reciprocated!
