So this description pretty much doesn't line up with my deck anymore. I've added Marsh Flats,
Bitterblossom
's Auriok Champions and even a Fetid Heath. I'm going to go ahead and leave the description here though since I think it is useful for people to see where they can take this on a budget.
Got the modern event deck for a pretty good price, so I decided to roll with it. I have no illusions that I'll be be making an appearance at the next pro tour, but I'd like to make it a relatively competitive deck to tool around with locally.
So after a few months I've got this build where I want it and it didn't really run me a whole of money. I bought the Event deck for 49.99 right when it was released due to a local shop ordering way to many, they dropped the price to 50 bucks. Since it wasn't a very popular item I'm sure you could find it for the same or possibly lower (as i wrote this on 2-8-15 there were multiple on Ebay for 50 dollars buy it now). The first thing I knew I wanted to do was get that 4th Path to Exile. If memory serves I think I just shelled out 5-6 dollars for it. +6
After that I wanted to get the 3rd and 4th
Inquisition of Kozilek
. Again I just paid for them. You can get them for 5.25 a piece on TCGplayer right now so thats +11 (rounding up)
Next we Have
Godless Shrine
, these I Acquired over a period of time either through trades (since they were printed somewhat recently) if you want to pay straight up for them i wouldn't pay more than $8 dollars a piece. I know i paid 7 for one at a Grand Prix San Jose. and even then that was with credit after they went through my trade binder. Lets say you had to buy all 4 thats +$32 even then I think you would be able to trade into these.
the next big item I got was Sorin, Solemn Visitor just so you know I cracked him in a pack so that was bit of luck, but before that i was running
Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
instead and that seemed to work just fine and he tops out at $6 dollars so ultimately he's +$6
Thoughtseize These will not come cheap I was able to trade into my 3 which was nice. They are out there since they were just printed in Theros so they shouldn't be hard to find, the downside is they are a modern staple and played in standard currently. You could wait for them to rotate out and play Duress instead, but they are not nearly as good. A good thing is I don't think you need a playset, 2 is fine since I think
Inquisition of Kozilek
is actually better. If you were to pay they are about 18 a pice on TCGplayer and I know that my local game store sells them for $18 as well so thats +$36
After these item you can work on your sideboard, nothing in mine is really expensive its all like 2-3 dollars cards which is nice.. The sideboard that the Event Deck comes with while not great is serviceable.
Now if you bought every card that I've added to this deck your looking at about 90-100 dollars (on top of the initial price of the Modern Event Deck) which is no small sum, but considering you can trade the Sword of Feast and Famine thats worth about $14, plus your getting cards like

, Path to Exile, Thoughtseize and
Godless Shrine
that are played in various modern decks, that you'll get to use for years and a deck that can compete at FNM's or your local stores Modern night, I'd say its well worth it.
Order of Importance for playability: Godless Shrines, Path to Exile and any white fetchland to find the Godless Shrines. After those I would say you could pick up the other cards at your leisure.
Price Edit's as we all know prices fluctuate, so if things change drastically I'll comment on it here.
