Greasefang, like most legendary creatures created in the past decade, is clearly set up with a commander deck in mind. But she's from a standard set, not a commander set! Why not put her unique talents to work in a somewhat more competitive format?

So we're trying her in Modern. Now of course, for the deck to be worthwhile in the first place, it needs a big payoff... enter Parhelion II, perhaps the biggest and baddest vehicle to ever roam the skies. Find a way to plop it in your graveyard, and The Greasy One can not only cheat it right into play, she even has just enough power to pilot the thing and make it immediately swing. Having 13 damage coming at your foe in the air on turn three is nothing to sneeze at!

Okay, so the payoff is sound. Now how do we get there? Voldaren Epicure, Scrapwork Mutt and The Underworld Cookbook all provide a way to pitch cards from your hand, setting up any big honkin' vehicles for an explosive combat. Since we're running the cookbook, Asmo can make an appearance, hopping out with all this discard flying around and able to perform some funky removal. Goblin Engineerfoil is a more precision tool, placing exactly what card you want exactly where you need it. There are plenty of pieces to set you up for a turn three Parhelion.

There are lots of other little interactions to watch out for! Goblin Engineer can't bring a Parhelion back, but he can sac one to bring back something else - meaning Greasefang can bring it right back next turn. Ovalchase Daredevil can be pitched to The Underworld Cookbook turn after turn, and can be conveniently pitched to looting effects since it pops back with the next Voldaren Epicure or Unearthed Scrapwork Mutt. Speaking of "Unearth", it's one measly mana to bring back any one of your creatures asides from the Daredevil - including Greasefang herself, who can then send Parhelion your opponent's way.
