Yeah, Birds of Paradise or even Llanowar Elves are decent options on a budget. Noble Hierarch provides, ramp, fixing, and the exalted, which are all necessary to consistently kill on T2 or T3. Without it, T4 or T5 are more likely. I haven't bought many of the cards (rares specifically) for this yet, so I'm with you on the pricetag, lol...

Here's another possibly stupid question... how would taking out Apostle's Blessing and putting in Artful Dodge be? I understand that they work the same but Artful Dodge can be used twice each. On the other hand, Apostle's Blessing could be used to save Blighted Agent 's ass in a pinch...

It might be worth looking into. Apostle's Blessing has no color requirement and blue is really just a splash for Blighted Agent . Vines of Vastwood and Apostle's Blessing serve as protection creatures from removal, as well as a way to push through damage or pump creatures. There might be a cool build that includes more blue so you could run counterspells and Artful Dodge , but you miss out on the green pump spells.

Those were my thoughts aswell... My big thing is that Apostle's Blessing may not be helpful if they have two different mono creatures on the field...

Very true. I suppose it could force some interesting blocks with Ichorclaw Myr .

I made it a while ago, but this is what I came up with...

Mental Misstep is banned in Modern.
I would drop Strike to max out your other pump spells.
Unsure what your sideboard is trying to do. Inkmoths should be mainboarded, then generally protection, more counters and possibly GY hate should be sideboarded.
July 20, 2013 6:02 p.m.
Whoops! Guess I forgot about Mental Misstep being banned. I dropped one Predator's Strike , but kept a few in as a means of evasion. I cut the Inkmoth Nexus from the sideboard, although once I get fetches/shocks, maybe the manabase will be strong enough to support a few colorless lands. Dropping them from the sideboard allowed for inclusion of Remand , another Spell Pierce , and a few Tormod's Crypt . Thoughts on the modifications?

Inkmoth Nexus is amazing in infect decks. You need a play set.
July 22, 2013 10:24 p.m.
Yeah, I had it in initially, but since this runs much like a combo deck, I need colored mana immediately. Maybe when I have fetches/shocks, the manabase will be able to support the playset, but I recently removed all 4 copies of Inkmoth Nexus from my sideboard for more counterspells.

well - city of brass and gemstone mine for fixing and suddenly you can play 5 color infect - i played such a deck once, i have it on my profile somewhere(Infect InstaKill) Who cares that you can only use the mine 3 times, or about the brass's loss of lifeIf you dont win by the 4 turn, youre doomed already :P

I took a look at your deck and I like it a lot! I'm on a budget too, so I'm trying to figure out lands without using the fetches for now. City of Brass and Gemstone Mine both seem useful, so I will stick them in and see what happens!

Artful Dodge
is very worth it if you run Livewire Lash
.
See: LashInfect Agents
Otherwise I'd stick to stuff that gives you trample over unblockable.
I didn't know about Noble Hierarch until now, I need to consider that.
August 5, 2013 3:30 p.m.
I looked into a bit more evasive build, but the earliest wins were falling in the turn 3-5 range, where this build is geared more towards turn 2-4. Unblockable might be better than trample, but I'm not sure. Livewire Lash is a sick card. I might try taking this list and turning it into more of a control build, where Livewire Lash would be insane. Thanks for your feedback! Also, Noble Hierarch is wicked awesome, although a bit pricy. A budget option would be Birds of Paradise , though you miss out on the exalted bonus.
August 5, 2013 11:48 p.m.
I don't think Birds of Paradise is really needed. Noble Hierarch is really there for the exalted in my opinion, the mana is just a really good bonus. If I was going for budget I'd probably just put more infect creatures in. In fact, I haven't purchased Noble Hierarch yet. I'm a little unsure if his lack of infect is going to be a problem. What do you think?
August 6, 2013 5:12 p.m.
In playtesting, the mana ability is relevant for color fixing and sneaking in an extra pump spell, although not as much as the exalted. This is particularly is I play it on T1 to setup for a T3 win. If I were to cut Noble Hierarch in this deck, I would probably replace it with a few more Gitaxian Probe and Virulent Sliver

consider Distortion Strike
it buffs, makes unblockable, is cheap, and gets a second free casting next turn, it is much better than Artful Dodge
in this kind of deck

I really like it, I considered buying it, but then I realized how damn expensive Noble Hierarch is! Why not change out for Birds of Paradise ? I understand exalted is great but is it $27 a pop worth it?
