Alright, I know the first thing any experienced magic player is going to say looking at the decklist: That's Marty Proc, not Soul Sisters. The two decks share so many similar pieces, I don't think it really warrants a different name, but that's just personal opinion. The point of this deck is to be a starting point for anyone to get into modern. Soul Sisters has been one of the most popular budget builds for much of the format's existence. Wizards of the Coast even tried their hand at making a version of it to introduce new players to the format. While that would also be a good starting point, that product goes for upwards of $130 sealed, and their are some very questionable inclusions in the decklist. This deck will be a combination of both Soul Sisters and Marty Proc, that way people looking to upgrade will be able to take it in either direction while having most of the pieces for either ready to go. I'll be keeping this list under $100, and including options for upgrades and alternatives for people with fatter wallets looking for more consistency and power.
The base of this deck is Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant, and Ajani's Pridemate. In fact, your first two turns in most cases should be to drop one of the sisters turn one and Ajani's Pridemate turn 2. He enters the battlefield as a 3/3 because of the lifegain trigger! After that, it's a barrage of lifegain and a steadily growing Pridemate. Playing Spectral Procession turn 3 makes Ajani's Pridemate an absolutely terrifying presence. Backing up our creatures is the best unconditional removal spell in the format: Path to Exile. Of course there are budget alternatives to this as well, but nothing that even comes close to the Path. In this case, walking the Path most traveled is definitely the way to go.
This is one of the most popular budget archetypes in the format. I'm not telling you anything that a thousand decklists all over the internet couldn't tell you. This deck isn't even close to original. However, I have done my best to make this a perfect launching point for anyone to get into the format in a relatively budget friendly manor. As said before, upgrades will only make Soul Sisters more consistent and powerful.
UPGRADES:
Alright, this section is largely up to preference. Just search "Soul Sisters" on google and you'll find a thousand decklists, no two the same. There are so many directions to go with this deck. First order of business: Throw out and Oblivion Ring for a 4th Path to Exile. It's a necessity.
2 of Archangel of Thune can be super explosive. It turns every creature on the board into a Pridemate, and provides an extra flying body itself.
Updates to come!
