This is a Lands deck for Modern.
I've been playtesting it for a while and this is the list I've arrived at.
This deck requires a lot of thought sometimes to make the right plays.
Value Engine
Zuran Orb is a card I've been wanting to play with since it landed on Modern. In this deck it enables a value engine along with Crucible of Worlds. The Value Engine has some degrees/layers to it.
-
+2 life/turn (bring back & sac a random land)
-
+4 life/turn (bring back Radiant Fountain & sac it)
-
+2 life, 2/2 zombie token/turn (bring back Dunes of the Dead & sac it)
-
+2 life, 3 dmg any target/turn (bring back & sac random land with Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle online)
-
+4 life, 3 dmg any target/turn (bring back Radiant Fountain & sac it with Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle online)
-
+2 life, 3 dmg any target, 2/2 zombie token/turn (bring back Dunes of the Dead & sac it with Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle online)
-
+2 life & 6 dmg any target/turn (bring back Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle & sac it with the second Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle online)
These are just some general ideas of that which is possible with the right combination.
Which leads us to the COMBO aspect of the deck. Though the value engine is already a type of combo, the true potential is unleashed with Azusa, Lost but Seeking. If you manage to get Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle online with crucible of the worlds/Life from the Loam and Dryad of the Ilysian Grove, you can go nuts.
But do not rely only in Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle. Most games I win with a massive token army from Dunes of the Dead.
Also do not underestimate the life gain from Zuran Orb. That life gain is key to many near-death comebacks.
Smart-Thinking is key.
There is a great array of possible combinations or choices of lands for you to tutor each with its own special use case. Grasping Dunes was great against Master of Waves in a game I played. In another, Ghost Quarter was key to winning against the Utopia Sprawl/Arbor Elf deck. Against a prowess deck and an The Underworld Cookbook deck I won due to going wide with tokens.
Have fun with this one.
BTW Simic Growth Chamber is nice to bounce cycle lands and ETB lands to gain more value.
I'm still working out the sideboard so we'll leave it at that for the time being.
Budget!
Except for Force of Vigor, this deck is pretty cheap in MTGO.
