@mattskones Thanks! Yeah green devo is such a fun deck to pilot. And these Nykthos decks can be super explosive too. I think it's probably my favorite deck to play right now.

+1 from me. Have you considered Cloudthresher? (obviously depends on your meta)
March 16, 2015 9:21 a.m.
DrewsBrews says... #6
@BlueInEveryDeck Thanks! Cloudthresher isn't a bad card however in this list it competes with Prime Time and Craterhoof for those top of the curve spots. Craterhoof wins games outright, something Cloud can't really do, and Prime Time ramps up your board state so much it's hard for me to justify cutting it for Cloud. Obviously if it works for you then by all means go for it, it just seems like a case of a good creature not being quite good enough in my humble opinion.
If you are having issues with flying in your meta consider running 1-2 Arashi, the Sky Asunder. I think he has more of an impact on the overall game. Again, just my opinion and should be taken as just that . There are so many ways to make devotion work it's hard to go wrong as long as it's consistent.

Resetting the comments was unintentional and a result of editing things without much sleep. Apologies to those that have already commented. Feel free to keep discussion going, or ask any questions. If you like the deck please +1!

Have you considered running Inkmoth Nexus in the deck. A Primeval Titan fetching a Kessig Wolf Run along with an inkmoth can provide an alternative way of dealing lethal damage through infect.

DrewsBrews says... #10
OtakulordAndrew I originally had Inkmoth Nexus in the deck instead of Boseiju, Who Shelters All. I still do in paper actually. I haveBoseiju, Who Shelters All in the side in paper and no copy of Beast Within. I still haven't fully decided if the MD Inkmoth is worth losing the Beast on the side.

It's definitely a tough call and is best decided with your local meta in mind. I tended to run 1 copy main board in my mono green splash of red nyxwave deck but I also didn't run Ghost Quarter.

The other thought I had was to run Inkmoth main, Boseiju side, and then drop 1 Command for Beast Within. I think overall that would solve most of the confusion on my end, assuming 2 Command works out to be enough. (It should)

2 Primal Command tends to work alright as its more of a side combo to your main combo of Genesis Wave.

Yeah I just updated the list to reflect current thoughts. I have everything in paper so I'll run it some this weekend and see how it goes.

I hope it does well. I really enjoy the genesis wave combo deck although I tend to play sultai control or grixis cruel control at major tournaments and experiment with a naya variation of the nyxwave deck at my local game store, I remember the original variation being a lot of fun to play.

I run something similar and I really like 4 Fertile Ground and 3 Voyaging Satyr. I'm by no means an expert on this deck so this is me asking more than suggestion: Any reason you're not running either of those cards?
May 5, 2015 6:26 a.m.
DrewsBrews says... #18
Both are very viable options in my opinion. I think its a playstyle choice. I used Abundant Growth over Fertile just because I prefer the card draw. Both allow for mana fixing, but when running devotion like this mana isn't an issue too often. Voyaging Satyr is a solid card overall in lists like this, but Garruk does the same thing and more. So I went with the Burning-Tree Emissary for more explosive potential early game, being able to drop them in sequence, or just get free Nykthos activations off of the mana it creates. Great question though and again I feel like it just comes down to preference. I checked out your list as well and it looks pretty solid. That's the fun thing about devotion: there are so many viable options.

I also chose to run Birds of Paradise instead of the full playset of Abundant Growth because it gives me a flying creature to pump with Kessig Wolf Run later on if I need it.

Why not cut the middleman and instead of genesis wave just run Tooth and Nail to find Craterhoof Behemoth and Xenagod?

one of my friends was thinking about building this deck a month ago. I think it's interesting but don't think it's my style.
how is it in the current modern meta?
May 9, 2015 7:52 p.m.
DrewsBrews says... #22
TristanTaylorsVoice the T & N list is an entirely different deck list that runs a different set of creatures overall. Usually relies on Xenagos, God of Revels paired with Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. There is also a list based on running Chord of Calling that falls under a more toolbox category with more 1-ofs. It just depends on which list you are wanting to run. They all play differently.
motleyslayer Overall it's a pretty fun list to play. As far as the modern meta, it's a tad slow for some matchups, and things like Twin, Infect, and Tron can be rough depending on your draws. I play it because I have fun with it, and while it can be potent, if you are wanting a tier 1 deck to take to a GP or something..you should probably stick to the more prominent decks.

I see. The only other suggestion I have is if pyroclasm or anger of the gods is ruining your day, you could try splashing for burrenton forge tender in the board, but between utopia sprawl and garruk it might be not as big of a deal as to, say, elves.

I've strongly considered splashing white in general, for sideboard options as well as a main deck Dragonlord Dromoka.
May 11, 2015 2:02 a.m.
TristanTaylorsVoice says... #25
Dragonlord Dromoka is a little less impressive in a format where they'll pay 1 mana to path on their turn, I think something like Gaea's Revenge would be better.

Good list, I had a very similar one a while back. I've been running a Modern Green Devotion list for a while and its a lot of fun. mines currently running a bunch of test cards, but if they don't work out great I'll revert back to a more traditional version. +1
