Hello, and welcome to the start of my EDH deck series, Modern to Commander! Here, we're going to analyze some of the most popular Modern decks, and try to make them commander viable. Today we're going to start with Humans, a popular archtype that combines a low to the ground strategy with hatebears, counters, and removal to form an effective package . Humans in Modern

Humans in Modern are a very powerful deck, combining fast answers (Path to Exile, Reflector Mage), hatebearers (Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Thalia, Heretic Cathar), and big threats (Thalia's Lieutenant, Champion of the Parish) to beat down opponents while answering everything they throw at you, all wrapped up in a highly synergistic package.

Humans in Commander

Humans in Commander are much worse then Humans in Modern. Most human decks try to go for an aggro approach, with generals like Jirina Kudro and Sigarda, Host of Herons and try to beat face as quickly as possible. Aggro is easy to pull off in Modern, but in commander, you have to take care of six times the amount of life, and aggro can quickly run out of steam.

Our Commander

One thing a low to the ground deck like this can do is run out of steam after casting all of our hatebearers. To combat this, Chulane, Teller of Tales lets us draw a card and ramp whenever we cast a creature, keeping us card-neutral. He can also bounce some of our humans with good etbs, like Knight of the White Orchid and Militia Bugler. He's also a human, and therefore benefits from all of our human synergies.
