True that.

Couldn't quite get everything I wanted in here... not everything was available at the store. So until further notice, Rix Maadi Guildmage is the placeholder for Stigma Lasher, and I can't remember what's holding the place for Waste Not. Also, debating whether or not Master of Cruelties is unfun enough for everyone else for me to justify his absence from this deck. I'd love to play him, but I would not love everyone else getting pissed off because of him. Is this a reasonable point of view? Discuss?

I think you should not hesitate to include Master of Cruelties because he doesn't have evasion so he is easily killed and he has to get through in order to work. He isn't OP and it's a decent alternate win condition, especially against life gain.

Fair points. Against life gain, I already had a couple of cards, Leyline of Punishment and Rain of Gore, either of which completely hose my friend's Karlov deck. But the fact that he prevents my attacking with anything else is a check against power...yeah, I might have to include him. There's bound to be something I can take out...

One card I'm really enjoying is Tyrant of Discord, because with him, I have the (albeit random) chance of destroying something that isn't an artifact, creature, or land... which is all I'm capable of blowing up with this deck otherwise.

As for removing cards, it's definitely safe to drop down to 38 mana and still be fine. If you need more enchantment removal I highly recommend Oblivion Stone another one that is decent (and much more budget friendly) is Ratchet Bomb.

Forgot about Ratchet Bomb. Artifacts are awesome. Anything you need done, they can do. If you're willing to pay the price.

Take out Rain of Gore. It's either completely useless, or it's preventing you from playing 3 other cards in your deck to keep it active. Instead, use Sulfuric Vortex. Damages everyone on every turn, and continues the no life gaining theme you already have in your deck.

40 lands is too much, you shouldn't need more than 35at the most in a two color deck. Add in some tutors like Diabolic Tutor, or Diabolic Revelation.

Also, Kaervek the Merciless might warrant and addition to this deck.

Not taking out Rain of Gore because of a friend of mine who plays a Karlov of the Ghost Council lifegain deck. It hoses him completely. And I don't mind not using Retreat to Hagra to gain life. Tutors definitely sound like a good idea, Master of Cruelties will probably enter at some point, and Kaervek looks awesome! I never considered him at all. Is forty land really too much? I suppose I just didn't want to get mana screwed

Got a new card in here. Choice of Damnations. I love this card, it's got a flavour that seems to be just perfect. Can't wait for it to come out in a game.

ElendVenture, I've realized that you were onto something when you said exchange Rain of Gore for Sulfuric Vortex. There are too many reasons why it is a good idea, and it has taken me far too long to realize the sense in what you suggested. I will be exchanging them at the first opportunity.

I'm debating including Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon, just as an extra useful piece of tech. It would replace Lightning Reaver, a very reasonable switch to my mind.

March 1, 2016 2:44 p.m.

I would remove Leyline of Punishment and add Rain of Gore as suggested previously and also add Leyline of the Void to get rid of graveyard strategies since they are very common in EDH. Not just reanimation in black and white but flashback in red and blue and recursion in green. Definitely add Skittles, he is amazing. He might make you some new enemies but it's totally worth it.

You know what, I've decided against Skittles for flavor reasons. I think it might be better if I got an Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip, if only because so much of the rest of the creatures have the demon subtype. He then seems to fit rather a lot better into the whole deck.

I'm considering getting some other replacement cards for this deck. My initial thoughts regarding the usefulness of Choice of Damnations and Remorseless Punishment were not well thought out, I think. That and Dark Deal... it gives people more cards in a way that I don't much care for. I want to flat out deprive them unless I can get other stuff going. So, some of the thoughts I had regarding replacement cards were (erring on the side of creatures, as the deck needs a few more)

Ryusei, the Falling Star

Zo-Zu the Punisher

Mindslicer

Creeping Dread

This helps the discard end, as well as the deck's basic approach which is win by attrition, regardless of the cause of damage. Hey, if I can manage to make people discard, lose life when they discard, lose life when they play lands, and lose life for not having cards in hand, then I think I'm in a good place with Mogis in command. And I really need more creatures. I already said that. It's so true though that it bore repeating.

Definitely add Zo-Zu and Mindslicer. I think you should add Seizan, Perverter of Truth and Polluted Bonds.

April 15, 2016 9:08 p.m.

Almost forgot about Ormendahl, Profane Prince  Flip!! Add it! AKA Westvale Abbey

April 15, 2016 9:11 p.m.

Believe me, Westvale Abbey's on the list... just hadn't written it down, and I'm hoping the price might drop in a bit. I take it you've played with it? Plays well, reliably? One reason I hadn't added it is that I tend to not have many creatures to sacrifice. Does it make creatures well enough to make it likely to go off? This deck isn't exactly powering out spare tokens

I like Polluted Bonds, I'll have to look into that.

Added:

Polluted Bonds, Mindslicer, Zo-Zu the Punisher, Seizan, Perverter of Truth and Creeping Dread.

Out:

Dark Deal, Choice of Damnations, Remorseless Punishment, Staff of Nin, and Mutilate.

It's already running better, just because there's more creatures. Go figure. It seems that creatures are a good thing.

Two new additions already on this decklist, and soon to be in the actual deck at home.

Out: Demonspine Whip, Armillary SphereIn: Tainted AEther, Blasphemous Act

Perhaps then it might have a better chance at maintaining a sense of control. Saw the first one as a stax card on someone else's deck, and Act just means I get another board sweeper. For most things, anyway. Certainly I will have two less of what have proven to be dead cards.

Vinman says... #21

Yeah you went with a creature version of my deck. I wanted to make a creatureless deck to make my board wipes and enchantments more effective. Mogis will survive anything sweeper related. I do like your version. Very nice

May 6, 2016 4:03 p.m.

Stranglehold, Geth's Grimoire, Nyxathid, and Dread Slag might work in here.

May 17, 2016 1:20 a.m.

nyctophasm says... #23

Of those suggestions, I would only actually consider Stranglehold and Geth's Grimoire. The first is a bit expensive right now, with the other, I don't know what I would replace.

May 17, 2016 8:30 a.m.

Asylum Visitor is really good in here unless Sire Of Insanity is out, but that can easily be played around.

May 19, 2016 11:18 a.m.

nyctophasm says... #25

Sire Of Insanity isn't actually a problem there. If anything, it simply gives me another option on a turn when I would normally only get one option, possibly drawing me out of land pockets sooner. The only bothersome question, as always, is what to cut to replace it with the visitor.
