It's a finisher. Hellspark is a dead card if they have a 3 toughness blocker or something even larger. And ball lightning is far too easy to stop. Shard volley is an amazing card to finish a game with. Being 3 damage for 1 mana at instant speed is excellent.

If you absolutely need another 2 mana creature, Keldon Marauders is leagues ahead of hellspark. That card seriously puts in work.

Forked Bolt potentially could be good

Before I give in depth help I need to know if you are going for RDW or burn.

Preferably burn but I'm a little afraid of Leyline of Sanctity which is why this is probably a little more creature heavy than a complete burn deck.

Ok then,

Cut Ball Lightning it's 6 damage for three mana that is not guaranteed to hit.

Cut Hellspark Elemental It is two Searing Spears that are not guaranteed to hit

Cut Magma Jet The two damage for two mana is just not good enough

Cut Searing Blood Decent but better alternatives.

Add:

2 Searing Blaze Strictly better than Searing Blood, gets better with fetches, but is good anyway.

2 more Eidolon of the Great Revel

4 Treasure Cruise I saw your thread about adding blue, yes do it! But only for cruise.

2 Shard Volley After adding blue for cruise you want this to fuel a cruise, but only as a two-of

Mana Base:

No Budget version:

Add 4 Bloodstained Mire

Add 4 Wooded Foothills

Add 2 Steam Vents

Budget Verson:

Add

4 Steam Vents

3 City of Brass

I would also suggest adding any number of the other colors for any of the following, Boros Charm, Bump in the Night, and Destructive Revelry in the sideboard. I have been playing burn for over 10 months in modern and love the deck, please take this advice to heart as it will help your deck.

Holy crap, this deck is amazing! I just playtested it, and won on turn 3! Turn 1 Goblin Guide attacks for 2 (18). Turn 2 double Monastery Swiftspear and Goblin Guide attacked (14). Turn 3, double Lava Spike (8), thanks to prowess trigger, the two attackers swung for 8 (0). Yes, if there is a blocker or you're playing against Soul Sisters, you don't just win there, but its a pretty good place to be.

As for the question on whether you should splash blue or not, I think yes. Treasure Cruise is a great card to splash for, and it gives Burn just what it needs, more cards. And in Modern, its very easy to splash for one color. Just throw in like 2 Steam Vents and some fetches.

Without fetches I don't actually think Searing Blaze is strictly better than Searing Blood. Without fetches I would rather just have Magma Jet, or better yet Lightning Strike. Also I would rather use Scalding Tarn just because.

zyphermage Um... you definitely do not play burn if you can honestly say that your think Lightning Strike or Magma Jet is better than Searing Blaze look at burn on mtgtop8 and see if a single list ran either of those cards, they are good in standard but are subpar and shitty in modern. (respectively)

quesobueno123 says... #10

Sorry, Lightning Strike is the shitty one.

November 17, 2014 4:24 p.m.

Wow, thanks for all the advice quesobueno123! I'll keep all that in mind and see what I end up with.

ThisIsBullshit No problem!! Also forgot to mention, if you add black or white then Vexing Devil is the next thing to go, as giving your opponant a choice is bad, if they are at three you are fucked if you draw that over a bolt, (or bolt wannabe) also +1 for playing burn, if you want check out my burn deck Burnt Rainbows

Well whatever I know more about legacy burn that is true. In modern I wouldn't probably be playing with it myself. I think affinity is faster with a better long game. Thankfully if I had to fight your burn list with my affinity you wouldn't hate on me too much.

Then again I am always looking for ways to remove the junky Goblin Guide in any format. I have never liked that card despite its damage.

quesobueno123 says... #15

zyphermage Those cards are even worse in legacy, affinity used to have a better late game until treasure cruise was printed, but now burn undoubtedly has a better late game. I'm not trying to be rude, just trying to discuss, if you want post on my profile and we can continue the conversation without clogging up the comment stream on here.

zyphermage says... #16

Obviously I am not talking about those 2 cards in legacy then. Nah I am ok, there isn't really anything to discuss. Unless you want to talk about my legacy lands deck or an 8 rack/smallpox deck then I am all ears.

zyphermage says... #17

Affinity has thoughtcast and can also cast treasure cruise too. Maybe I will add 1 or 2 to it, that is an idea.

November 17, 2014 5:21 p.m.

Didn't you just trade your Goblin Guide and Eidolon of the Great Revels to me? How does this deck work?

November 19, 2014 5:08 p.m.

I haven't updated for a while, and I had a playset of Eidolons sooo yeah.

This is very much a work in progress lol

November 19, 2014 5:10 p.m.

quesobueno123 says... #20

ThisIsBullshit why the hell would you trade the key pieces of the deck?

November 19, 2014 5:49 p.m.

At the time, this deck wasn't my top priority, I'm trying to finish an EDH deck and needed some staples for that.

November 19, 2014 5:53 p.m.

Why try to generate so much discussion if this deck is in your head?

November 20, 2014 4:58 p.m.

Why does it matter?
