The Jeskai Way

The Jeskai Way

This list has the accurate set printing and foiling

This deck is my tribute to the Khans block, and I want it to feel like you're living in the Jeskai monasterys of Tarkir. Cards don't strictly have to be from the Tarkir block so long as they match the lore, flavor, or mechanics, or give off the right vibe. For example, Aqueous Form was added as a reference to Bruce Lee's famous quote, "Be water my friend".

Cast Stoke the Flames an unlimited number of times. Have Jeskai Ascendancy on the battlefield and four creatures, at least two of which are red. You can pay the full cost of Stoke the Flames with convoke, and the cast trigger will make Jeskai Ascendancy untap your creatures. If you have Soulfire Grand Master, you can pay the 4 mana to return Stoke The Flames to your hand and cast it again for free.

You can repeatedly bounce all creatures to their owners hands by casting Evacuation, and then returning it to your hand from the graveyard with the effect of Warden of the Eye. Next turn, you can recast Evacuation to return Warden back to your hand, resetting the loop. This process can be used to control the danger level of the board until someone stops your shenanigans.

I discovered that this deck inadvertently has a janky "infinite" combo. Cast Arcbond and then cast Narset's Reversal on it to target one of your creatures with lifelink and indestructible with the copy. Cast the original Arcbond on another creature with indestructible or a very high toughness. Deal any damage to one of these two creatures, and the delayed trigger of arcbond will damage all players and the other creature, which will trigger Arcbond again, damaging everything and repeating the process. If both creatures are indestructible, the arcbonds can infinitely bounce off each other as long as you can sustain the life. The creature with lifelink will heal you for all the damage delt because arcbond causes the creature to deal the damage. This deck can grant indestructible with Valorous Stance, and lifelink with Seeker of the Way, Sage of the Inward Eye, and Jeskai Charm. I haven't added a way to give more than one creature indestructible on the same turn (unless you pay an unobtainable amount of mana with Soulfire Grand Master), so you would have to rely on your opponent having something indestructible, which makes this a very unreliable combo. However, a 4+ card combo that relies on your opponents to cooperate is the most noble form of combo, and the fact that you can discover an interaction that enables a combo you didn't know you had after years of owning a deck is what makes mtg such a cool game.

Bonus: If you have Jeskai Ascendancy in play, you can cast Kaho, Minamo Historian and exile the three combo pieces Arcbond, Valorous Stance, and Narset's Reversal. Casting a card with Kaho's ability will trigger Jeskai Ascendancy, allowing you to untap Kaho to continue the combo. You still need a lifelink creature, which you could get "for free" by casting Jeskai Charm the previous turn with rebound with the effect of Narset Transcendent, or Taigam, Ojutai Master.

Consider adding Yusri, Fortune's Flame. I would love to add an Efreet to the deck in order to have all races of the Jeskai clan represented, but this one isn't a Monk and it's ability doesn't exactly synergize with the deck. I'm still mulling it over.

Add Raugrin Triome

Next priority cards to foil. Make sure to get the Khans block printing: - Dragon Bell Monk - Ojutai Exemplars - Soulfire Grand Master - Sunscorch Regent - Worn Powerstone - Return to Dust - Warden of the Eye - Crucible of the Spirit Dragon - Haven of the Spirit Dragon - Command Tower - Tranquil Cove - Wind-Scarred Crag - Great Teacher's Decree - Taigam's Strike - Deflecting Palm - Dragonlord's Prerogative - Temple of Enlightenment - Temple of Epiphany - Icy Blast - Valorous Stance - Temple Bell - Mystic of the Hidden Way with the jeskai watermark

Once I get through those, I'll think about upgrading the expensive cards like Narset Transcendent

Lands don't need to conform because I would like to have reliable mana to actually play the deck. The basic lands will eventually be reaplaced with foil Tarkir lands.

Building this IRL. I have foiled out most of the cheap cards first, and will slowly work on the pricey ones. I am on the lookout for cards with art that would boost the power level while conforming to the theme.
