MONKÉ DECK V.2 This deck looks to take the timeless strategy of red beats into EDH. If you have miserable card suggestions that really beat ass, please let me know.

The standard gameplan in EDH looks something like this: Ramp –> get cards/value/an engine –> power into the mid game flush with resources –> jostle for the win.

The problem with this gameplan is that it doesn't deal damage. And how can you win game with no damage? Monké Deck Wins puts pressure on the board from turn 1 with your monké, and every turn afterwards with high value creatures that you can dump out a early with treasure. You should be able to snowball your board-state with more and more powerful beaters whilst everyone is still playing cultivate and starting to shit themselves a little bit.

The creatures in this list have been chosen for their value and card quality. There are more mana efficient damage dealers in mono red, but earlier iterations of the deck have shown that they aren't good enough for an EDH game. You need beaters that can also get some value, and you need that value fast in order to keep snowballing your advantage. If a creature only deals damage, then it really needs to be able to deal a lot of damage

An example of a card that didn't work in the deck is "Atsushi, the blazing sky" which from a value perspective seems unbelievable, but in reality was always too slow to do anything. At the top end of the deck, a thicc card needs to have an impact when it hits the board, not when it dies. Atsushi was really just a 4/4 flyer that people didn't have to deal with – not great in EDH. By contrast "Gnoll War Band" has been an absolute all-star in the list because even though it doesn't accrue any value, for 3 mana it steamrolls through almost any board-state and absolutely beats ass. Card Quality is king. And that comes down to impact on the table.

P.S. If you're going into a CEDH pod, check the sideboard. Cards to cut in high power groups are: Bloodfeather Phoenix, Realm-Scorcher Hellkite, Thundermaw Hellkite, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Zariel, Archduke of Avernus, Fiery Confluence, Mountain
